@@Xen0411 I didn’t know the Philippines had a Time Machine to copy the Czech flag! The Philippine flag was made on 1898, while the Czech’s was on 1920. The more you know.
Fun fact: Ferdinand Blumentritt's grandmother of father side is a descendant of the governor of the Philippines by the name of Alcazar. Andres Alcazar, in fact served as governor and attorney-general from February to December, 1616, during the absence and after the death of the Governor-General, Juan de Silva. This Alcazar might have been a forefather of Blumentritt. Thus the bow is drawn from the Philippines to Prague and Leitmeritz and through the friendship with Jose Rizal back to the Philippines
@@iceteazen hello to my fellow kababayan,,, I just wanna share this, opinion and video for additional knowledge about the topic....maybe is the reason too,, why the flag of Czech ,is like almost like the flag of the Philippines,,, ....This 4 person,,,Dr Jose Rizal, Blumentrit, Robertson, and Stangi,, they know something about our country,,, they know the name of the Philippine before the Spaniards invade our Country,,,,the name is,,,,,OPHIR,...yes, that right!!!! check the word OPHIR in the HOLY BIBLE....and here some information about the 4 pesrons talking about OPHIR...Dr. Jose Rizal, Blumentritt, Robertson, and Stangl said that Ophir was Luzon in part or in whole. Rizal identified "Pulilu" as Bo-ol or Bohol. Nobody disputed Dr. Jose Rizal. So there are only three possible places in the Philippines that could be identified as Ophir, they are Luzon, Mindoro, and Bohol. I don't have much details yet on how deep Rizal knew about the land of Ophir. But interestingly the first part of his last poem he wrote before his execution tickles one's curiosity of how much Rizal know about our ancient identity. Spanish Version (original language used by Rizal for this poem): Adiós, Patria adorada, región del sol querida, Perla del mar de oriente, nuestro perdido Edén! A darte voy alegre la triste mustia vida, Y fuera más brillante, más fresca, más florida, También por ti la diera, la diera por tu bien. English Version: Farewell, my adored Land, region of the sun caressed, Pearl of the Orient Sea, our Eden lost, With gladness I give you my life, sad and repressed; And were it more brilliant, more fresh and at its best, I would still give it to you for your welfare at most. Tagalog Version: Paalam, sinta kong Lupang Tinubuan Bayang sinagana ng sikat ng araw Marikit na mutya ng dagat silangan Edeng maligayang sa ami’y pumanaw. Thank you. I am a Filipino American living in California. I know Dr. Bluementrit as we studied Rizal in college but I didn’t know he was from Czech. The two countries should have a close bilateral relations.
I doubt he would have thought of him self as someone from czechia, rather as an bohemian german. As such i find it weird if the czechs claim the person for them selves as he represents a population group they despised and ethnically cleansed.
Czech Prime Minister recently had a state visit to the Philippines, and our diplomatic relationship with theirs extend towards defense and economic ones.
that's because our educational system indoctrinates us with American ideologies and propaganda, in a nutshell. And that part of our history like many other things don't fit nicely with what they are trying to portray.
I've been visiting Blumentritt road in Manila and I can't believe he was Czech. Not to mention I concluded that he was American since the Philippines was occupied by the U. S. A. A documentary well done and more love to our Czech brothers and sisters from the Philippines 🇵🇭❤🇨🇿
Jose Rizal was from a time before the U.S. colonized and occupied the Philippines. It was still under the Captaincy General of the Spanish east indies.
📌Goosebumps. 😮😮😮 So proud to have a vlog like this very inspiring and spectacular life back of our Philippine National Hero Dr. Jose Y Realondan P. Rizal... New subscriber here from the Philippines. 🥰🇵🇭❤️
I felt teary-eyed knowing that Rizal walked the streets of Littomerice! Wow! It makes Blumentritt Rd and Blumentritt Train Station in Manila with more meaning 🥰
Will visit the Czech Republic in October and plan to stay only in Prague. But with this video will now include Litomerice in my itinerary. Thank you for featuring Jose Rizal.
I'm from the Philippines and thank you so much for the fascinating video. May I add that in Manila a Light Rail Transit Station is named Blumentritt Station located in the street named after Ferdinand Blumentritt and an elevated highway being built atop the said street. Hope you could visit the Philippines one day soon and discover the motherland of Rizal.
My husband and I went to Litomerice in 1966 when we were newly married. We went to the town hall and when the Czech officials found out we were Filipinos, they showed us Rizal's signature in a huge registry book for visitors, then they took us to the hotel where he stayed. There was a plaque at the entrance commemorating his stay.. They attached a small curtain on it so I could formally unveil the plaque. In those days Filipinos did not travel to socialist countries. When my husband told them that I am a great grand niece of Jose Rizal, they were excited at the coincidence. Gemma Cruz Araneta
Miss Gemma Teresa Guerrero Cruz Araneta was the first Filipina to won the Miss International Beauty Title in 1964 and the first asian to won the beauty title she is a prominent figure in the Philippines high Society a Socialite and the Grand Niece of Dr. Jose Rizal she served in the Philippines governent in the Department of Tourism in 1998 but she is most remembered as The first Filipina to won The Miss International Crown in 1964
"A man who does not think for himself lacks personality." - how I wish the Filipinos of today embody these words. Rizal would be totally disappointed. Thank you for your vlog about Pépe and his best friend. 🇵🇭 🇨🇿
Sadly because religion is still big in Philippines, meaning Spain won. Rizal was a Grand Master Freemason(Ancient Freemasonry not the modern materialist rich guys club) not Catholic or Christian. Until Filipinos free themselves from chains of Colonialism(Churches) theyll never think for themselves. Though sadly he only left hidden symbolism in his works about Freemasonry/Alchemy. Filipinos at that time cant comprehend Freemasonic teachings so he made it into novels. Freemasonry/Alchemy is achieving the highest evolved form of the mind, how he became a Polymath super genius by realizing what Leonardo da Vinci(also a Grandmaster Freemason) has unlocked, the full potential of the human mind, today known as Cognitive Science. :) This is what Rizal wanted Filipinos to realize one day, he specifically said "I'm not writing for this generation, but for the future generations". Filipinos just need to re-decipher his writings. If you search La Sibilia Cumana, it's a prophetic board game Rizal created out of Freemasonic teachings. Very interesting. If Pinoys can realize this is how he hid meanings within meanings his literature will show a whole new dimension. :) Except no, the Spanish School System made Rizal a task for school WORK, and solely focus on dramas of the Characters. Not what Rizal actually meant hidden in plain sight.
Kudos to the Producers and Host of this video. This was really interesting and informative. I always knew that Blumentritt was a supporter of La Solideridad but didn't realize he never set foot in the Philippines. For his contribution, a street in the heart of the capital of the Philippines was named after him.
Very touching story between two great men of their time. 200 snail letters and Rizal last letter was his sad goodbye to a friend whom he called brother. imagine how long they have to wait for the postman probably months. Calling each other my brother proof that their friendship was so deep. Nowaday you call someone "hey bro" coz you don't know his name. I could haved imagined how Europeans were amazed to conversed with Jose a short brown skin and spoken 20 languages.
We watched a couple of your videos Valerie as we prepared for Prague visit particulary the “what to wear” and “where to eat” it helped us a lot. And then we get to Prague, met Vaclav during our guided tour and he said to watch this video! Didnt realize your were a couple. Awesome! 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
I'm Filipino. I had the good fortune of visiting Litomerice in 2009 as a part of a European Tour that my group and I won from a quiz bowl sponsored by the Czech Presidency to the European Commission. Beautiful, charming place. We went to see Blumentritt's grave; I had duck for dinner for the very first time. I also have the same photo as the thumbnail. :) Thank you for sharing!
So interesting to learn the ties of two countries. We will be staying at Litomerice in September and will definitely look at the head of Rizal and Blumentrits grave. Btw, I’m Filipino based in US. Thank you for this video.
What a coincidence, during our last stay in Prague this May we made a nice drive through the country side (Kokořínsko - Máchův kraj, very beautifull) and stayed a couple of hours in Litoměřice. It is indeed worth a visit especially if you want to escape the tourist crowds in Prague centre for a day.
Thank you in sharing with us about our national hero Jose Rizal and his best friend Ferdinand Blumentritt. In our history books we only know that Ferdinand Blumentritt was a German, but now we learned that Czech republic was have a deep historical connection with the Philippines through these two Great men as we read the history of past events happened more than centuries ago.
I'm Filipino and I did not know this. I knew he wrote letters before he was shot and have heard the name Blumentritt associated with Rizal but never really paid too much attention to that bit. But this is good stuff! Thank you!
If correspondence between Rizal and Blumentritt were not kept, it will be hard for Philippine historians to track Rizal’s half of his entire life. Thank you professor Blumentritt. I wish your descendants can come and visit Philippines to see how many places, streets were named after him.
Yes, I am a Filipino living UK, England (holding a British Passport) for quite some time now...But, we back in my school days in the Philippines, we studied & learned about Ferdinand Blumentritt associated with Dr. Jose Rizal's works & travels...And, I'm glad to know about where Ferdinand Blumentritt lives, works & dies. Thank you.
I can truly say Prague is one of the most beautiful places my family and I ever visited in Europe. From Wenceslas Square to Charles bridge standing over the Vitava river, the Church of Our Lady of Victories, also referred as the Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague, Jewish quarter and walking down the old streets, of course the famous Prague medieval astronomical clock was a unique experience. Prague’s middle age Romanesque and Gothic architecture is just phenomenal and impressive.
It's from you first time I learned Rizal was in Czech Republic. I thought I knew everything about him , he's actually our national hero. F. Blumitritt is also named to a famous avenue in Manila.

In San Juan City a suburb of Manila one of the main road was named after Ferninand Blumentritt , F. Blumentritt will always be a part of our Philippine history
Thanks for your beautiful work keep coming, I wish you can come up with a story about a Czech soldier who fought in the Philippines during WWII and also a Czech journalist who covers the news of Philippines revolution against Spain also stories of Czech Priests and Monks assigned in the Philippines during Spanish colonialization, they make research on the rich Philippines' scientific Fauna and Faura some of them also learned the local language. Do you have any copies of Rizal's letter to Blumentritt? Thank you!
17th Century Czech missionaries Fr. Paul Klein and Georg Kamel made huge contributions in botany and pharmacy in the Philippines. Fr. Klein made the first description of Palau, and also made a Tagalog dictionary. They maybe obscure figures but yeah, Czechs have impacted us even before the Rizal-Blumentritt relations.
Yeah, hard to imagine what Blumentritt must've felt when he read that last letter from Rizal. Must be torture for him knowing his friend was already dead as he read it. The friendship between these two diverse intellectuals would be a great script for a movie.
Jos Rizal was fluent in twenty-two languages (Hebrew, Filipino (Ilokano, Bisayan, Subanon), Chinese, Latin, Spanish, Greek, English, French, German, Arabic, Malay, Sanskrit, Dutch, Japanese, Catalan, Italian, Portuguese, Swedish and Russian) and had a knack for switching from one language to another when he was writing. Btw I'm Filipino
Interesting video. I hated history and was not interested in studying about Jose Rizal when I was young, so I did not know who Blumentritt was, except that I knew it was a street in Manila. Now, I love history, and I have also been to Prague... beautiful city which I want to go back to. Thank you for sharing.
Prague is in my bucket list to visit, you just added Litomêrice to the map for all other Filipinos to visit. They should hire you for boosting the local tourism 👍 Gold find and thank you for sharing these facts.
I really appreciate your vlog giving some historical details featuring our national hero Jose Rizal and Ferdinand Blumentritt which were also written in our history book. As a Filipino, I am very grateful to you.
I did not know of this history. Thanks to you Beautiful Lady for announcing to the world how some Europians treat Filipinos, as co-equals and as educated as you are.
Thanks,!! proud Filipino here now living in LA. I had been in Praque. i wish I knew that when I visited the Czech Republic, maybe again next time, gives me a reason to go back.
damn jose rizal is really very advance and very smart on that era + he got tons of love interest all around the world from east asia to europe to the usa all around the world
It's nice to know that our countries' histories have somehow crossed.... One of my favorite charaters in history is Jan Masaryk, former Czech Prime Minister.
So I’m a Filipino, and I use to live in the Philippines and see the Blumentritt street. I ddnt even know that is a last name of a person in Czech Republic. I also did not know that Jose Rizal which is our most important hero had a best friend in Czech. This is quite interesting to know and I might visit this town when I go to Czech one day. Now I reside in Washington USA
Thanks for sharing this, as a Filipino Jose Rizal is a hero but I did not know about Ferdinand Blumentritt. I hope you come and visit the Philippines someday.
Omg! Beautiful country Czech. I’ve been to Prague and really fell in love with the city.. It’s so easy to travel there.. The ghoulash and dumplings are so delicious.
Thanks you for featuring this video about Blumentritt and our National hero Jose Rizal. When i was still studying in the Philippines i had this class subject history of Jose Rizal and i came across Dr. Blumentritt name in one of the books about Jose Rizal. Truly Jose Rizal spoke 20 languages it's amazing!!.
There are several streets in the Philippines named after Ferdinand Blumentritt. In Manila, there are two Blumentritt Streets - one in Sta. Cruz district, the other in Sampaloc district.
Very intresting as a filipino i always thought Philippines was too often regarded as a footnote of some european history outside of spanish, but it turns out czechs have some relation, i find it sweet their friendship made a legacy to be present in the far future, one that we can be definiteley priud of
Did u know? Rizal own the gold lent to 176 central banks worldwide. Allegedly, FEM and JPR established the IMF. JPR was the father of Hitler thru maria clara polzel in Viena and General Yamashita.
I actually visited Litomerice in 2022 and enjoyed it immensely, not as a side trip to Terezin. However, this story about Czech and Phillippine friends is just another level. Must go one more time, it seems 😎
Thank you for another important piece of our history between the Philippines and the Czech Republic. Blumentritt Street and LRT station in Manila are famous and well-known, but I had no idea who Blumentritt was until I watched this video.
There's also the Blumentritt PNR Station which will soon be replaced by a new ultra modern Station of the North South Commuter Railway construction beginning.
Thanks for the video! I’ve been trying to research Litomerice, but it’s honestly been harder than I thought to find out what there is to do in 5e city 😅
Wow, amazingly so important and interesting to every young Filipino to learn the essence of friendship motivated and centered by education in search for knowledge..and Freedom
Thank you for this. A lot of us or none of us knew of this information at all. All we knew was he studied abroad and mainly stayed in Germany or Spain between the two.
Hi!!! I'm proud Filipino...thank you for an informative contents regarding the relationship between our countries great men to be remembered.. Keep it up, take care and God bless you and your family and friends 🙏🙏🙏.
it's Nice to Know Jose Rizal-Philippines freedom Liberator had Big Image in Czech w/Blumentritt,Things they Did Shape History(what are Friends are For)._______Sharing Memories In One for every Nation to Became We Are Now.
Wow! I am aware that Ferdinand Blumentritt lived in what is now the Czech Republic. Had I known about him and Jose Rizal having some memorials in Litemorice, I would have came by when I visited the country just a few years ago, before Covid. Thanks for this amazing video.
Rizal is one of the most Famous personality in world history...And he is the only person whos multiple statue built all over the world....in a different countries!
Hello Valerie! I greatly appreciate what you're doing about our Pepe and his bff, I'm a Filipino living in the UK and we visited Prague before but next time will definitely include Litomerice in our itinerary. Also, please visit any of our 7641 beautiful islands you'll never regret it. Many thanks!
Amazing short video, it reminds me of my history class from high school to college. We even had a subject called "Rizal". By the way we also have here "Blumentritt St," in my city far from Manila. Which is Naga City, Camarines Sur. Most people don't know about the history of the name of the street either, but the street is known here by the locals. Thanks for sharing this....Amazing....
He was born in Prague, which was the capital of Czech (Bohemian) kingdom, that was part of Austrian empire back then. He was born in a German speaking family, but it is very likely that he was fluent in both German and Czech. Knowledge of both languages was very common during this time.
Thank u so much for this historical vlog, very very interesting to know about Blumentritt the best friend of Rizal. In Germany in Heidelberg there is also a street named after Jose Rizal, bec Jose Rizal had studied in Heidelberg. Here in Manila there is also a street named after Ferdinand Blumentritt a german name. Mostly streets here in the Philippines are spanish names sometimes english from our 2 colonizers Spain and USA. Nice vlog ma'am. I subscribed.🇵🇭👍🏝️
Jose Rizal Straße that's street in German is in Wilhelmsfeld where the Dr. Jose Rizal stayed at the house of his friend Pastor Karl Ulmer in 1886 and still stands today where he wrote the last chapters of his novel "Noli Me Tangere" the street that runs along the house is named in his honor.
Thank you for sharing this great history! I did not even learn this when I studied in the Philippines. It is amazing to know and be informed. I will visit in the future Czech Republic.
