To clear up confusion, 2 occupied homes were destroyed in the fire, 1 was under construction. I don't believe the families were home, if they were I know that no one was seriously injured.
STEP 1: You are playing Russian roulette by buying a home that is only 5 to 10 yards from your neighbors. When one of those homes catches fire, especially on a windy and dry day, those are prime conditions for the fire to exponentially spread quickly. Yours will catch fire, your other neighbors will as well, and then the entire neighborhood. There are only so many firemen and fire departments. They can't all be at your home when it starts spreading on a massive scale from burning embers catching other roofs on fire. Next thing you know, 20 homes are on fire in your subdivision.
