CodaBow is one of the premiere carbon fiber bow manufacturers in the world. They make bows for violins, violas, cellos, and basses. In this video, we talk about and demonstrate the different models of CodaBow, from the Diamond NX, SX, and GX to the Joule, the Prodigy, and the Marquise. You can see and hear the differences between the bows, as well as see some graphs that describe the entire family of CodaBow products.

Currently shopping for a Codabow. They seem pretty impressive.

@@ElectricViolinShop Would you recommend a GX or Joule for an acoustic Irish fiddler?
@ElectricViolinShop
@ElectricViolinShop 4 года назад
@@TheFiddlingViolin It depends. The GX is probably a little more nimble and the Joule pulls a fatter tone. It's really about which you'd prefer.

@@ElectricViolinShop Thank you, that does help. I love a fatter tone, but I think Irish fiddling needs something more nimble. I was wondering that about the Joule. Those two bows were what stood out to me the most in my search.

@@TheFiddlingViolin Don't sleep on the Codabow Luma, which goes sort of the opposite way from the Joule in that it's a few grams lighter than the GX and and a little softer stiffness. It's got a very quick, light feel that is great for Irish fiddling. www.electricviolinshop.com/codabow-luma-violin-bow.html

Thanks for the video Matt, entertaining and informative as usual. Hoping the next demos will use better recording mics, I could hear the difference between the bows, but still high registers sounded scratchy and some nasty warbles coming through which I am sure were not present live.

Watching you play an acoustic looking violin is like watching TwoSet play an electric........ if ya get my drift.

Haha! The difference is that we actually know how to play acoustics. Shots fired!

Very good information. It helped me decided to get a GX and Joule for two different purposes. Out of curiosity, how would you use those two? Cheers.

Between Diamond SX and Joule, which is best for a carbon fibre cello and an electric cello? Playing both rock and classical.
@ElectricViolinShop
@ElectricViolinShop 4 года назад
They are both great bows and either works well for those instruments and styles. Comparing the two head to head, the Joule is stiffer, heavier, and its balance point is closer to the tip than the SX. Check out our Codabow Buying Guide here for more information: www.electricviolinshop.com/blog/buying_guides/guide-to-codabow-violin-viola-cello-bow-models/

Electric Violin Shop thanks for the input! I managed to play both bows and though the joule is great for low strings on an electric, I found the lighter weight of the diamond sx to allow me to play quickly on both carbon and electric instruments so that is my choice! I am petite and the joule was just too heavy to be able to manoeuvre quickly.

If you want to play like a ninja, you don’t use a coda bow 😂
