Hi, Esther. I noticed you're not using this bow in any of the videos you posted subsequent to this one. It seems that, despite the glowing review, it may be inferior to whatever bow(s) you use. Of course, for all we know, your primary bow could be a Tourte, which would explain it. But, since the Marquise has obviously not become your bow of choice, would you mind giving some updated insights on it?

I really loved my Coda bow. The silver wire tarnished quite quickly, but otherwise it was the best I ever used. I just wish there was a way to unsubscribe from their news letter! And as usual, great playing!

Ester, thank you for reviewing the Escher by CodaBow. That was a very nice introduction and demonstration. Not all of us are fortunate enough to have a big shop with lots of higher tier options available. I have to plan a big trip, or order online. Based on your recommendation I have purchased this model. Thank you for taking the time.

Beautiful sound and smooth. Is the sound a bit shallow or is it the recording?

probably just a larger room, so the recording combined w/that yeah.

Thank you for this. As someone who is looking for a bow, likely a few, of many shapes and sizes. I'm a composer or just as well songwriter and producer to the popular world. I love musical history and find the math and cross cultural topics fascinating as the same families or classes of instruments have shown up everywhere. For a long time I have used computers to aid me create fundamentals and add harmonics to create novel sorts of tones and it is possible to do this. However, building things by hand gives another orientation to the whys and hows of orchestration even it's blending synthetically generated tones. So I really have a good reason to try different rosins and bows on of my bass guitar, it's in Cello range and I have lots strings which make it well modified for the task, cheaper to try certain things before I built something I can't change. I have some very old violins and bows that need to be rehaired, but it would be insane to damage them; I was afraid to touch them until I started on these projects and I do prefer the all fifths tuning at least to fourths but I'm trying to maintain functional harmony in 17 and 24 tone octaves instead of 12. I've gotten bored ad found the Persian and Arabic instruments I wanted to emulate employed bows of all sorts, aside from their neutral 3rds (350 cents or 3 and 1/2 semitones). It seems carbonfiber will not greatly sway me either way when it comes to my kind of unique use. It's all a big experiment to expand beyond the choices that come from breaking diatonic music down into chromatic and less functional. I think there are other ways left in the past which don't fit well for orchestra or ensemble, nor commercial and popular work.

If you join her patreon ... the card she sends is like the best thing ever!!! Just think, when shes even more famous it will be worth so much to have her autograph ;) (not like you could ever let it got though). Really you get a lot of great things when you are helping support her music, she's worth it and last time I looked she offered violin lessons for a very low price!

Does it come with real bow hair. You make it (the violin) sound absolutely amazing. But I think I can hear the difference in the contact, slightly less of a clean grip of the string, more raspy. It almost doesn’t matter to the listener because you play so beautifully of course!

Did you get lucky with one that arrived pre-rosined? Every coda trial bow that I have received has not been pre-rosined, and it has made it harder for me to really try them as I am fighting the hair compared to my own bow.
@AW-tp1yl
@AW-tp1yl 2 года назад
I thought without rosined means it is brand new, not a bow that had been trialled
@jennifersersaw3588
@jennifersersaw3588 2 года назад
@@AW-tp1yl Some luthiers pre-rosin new bow hair before it goes home to the customer. When I bought a new wood bow several years ago, the luthier had pre-rosined the hair. Whenever the luthier rehairs my bow, he pre-rosins the hair. Then I just apply rosin normally, and I do not have to do 50 swipes or however many it is to get a non-pre-rosined bow to play well. Btw one of my coda bows I tried did arrive pre-rosined. I believe it was the Marquis Tuxedo. All the others I tried were not pre-rosined.

To the photographer here: record the sound with an extra microphone and mix everything together afterwards. Do NOT record the spoken parts with the same microphone that you seem to do. Esther is worth better than that!

Not the greatest review. Go over the weight of the bow, its balance, how straight it is, and try different bowing techniques and comment on how it reacts. Record your first impression and then come back to us a few weeks later with how it's felt. Then put both those opinion videos together as one.

You have said in other videos that you do not like or do not play with a shoulder rest, but good grief, your collar bone has a nasty bruise just from those few minutes of playing. Have you considered a cloth at least as some sort of cushion between the violin and your collar bone? I can see a mark on your collar bone while you are unboxing the bow, but wow! Just a few minutes of playing and it looks much worse. I'm sure you are used to it by now, playing for so many years, but it looks painful.
