I like how you cut some cost and just leveled and used some shipping pallets for your floor. I am not sure how well that has held up over the years. I probably would have layed down some 6mil landscape plastic under everything first to prevent moisture from destroying the pallets from below.
Thanks for watching. That’s a good idea. We sold the house two years ago, but when we left the base was still solid. The pallets are not touching the ground, only the cinder pads. The drainage was such that there was no standing water around the base of the shed.
Thank you for this set of video. As I will be building one as soon as it comes in....Will need to get approval from the boss (wife) if I can use the pallets we already have here.... :)
👍🏻 Thanks for watching. I hope this will help make the building of the shed a little faster. It’s always important to have the boss’ approval before using valuable resources 😜. I hope it works as well for you as it has for us. Thanks again.
Hi and thanks for the fantastic video. This is Makis from Athens Greece. Since I am about to buy this shed here in Greece, I would like to know if you have experienced water dipping from rain, or humidity forming inside the shed in the winter? Thank you !!!
We have been pleased with this shed over the last several years. We have not experienced any humidity accumulating. We have noticed some evidence of some water (not much) getting in but we think it is from seriously torrential rain that is not a usual rain for us. It doesn’t appear to be a major issue, just some evidence on boxes that water got on them. Thanks for watching and asking a great question. Happy building!
Just saw this shed (maybe a different model ) for $599 plus 11%off,10 by 12 by6'10" , how has this shed held up, it's been 5 years since you posted video? Great job on the flooring, good idea sure beats the expense of concrete and labor.
Thanks for checking out our video, and the comment. We sold the house last year, but when we left the shed was still looking good and standing strong. The only issue that I had was due to the expansion and contraction of the metal. Some of the screws started to leak. I used clear flex seal spray and sealed them back up. other than that it was all good. I post an update video in 2019 as well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A2w2CRsLDNI.html Thanks again.
Hey buddy thanks for this video it is very informative. What did you use for sealant? Did you basically use weather sealant on the inside of the shed on the bottom? Also I copied your idea and basically did the same foundation. However the pallets I used ended up a little bigger than the base of the shed so it juts out by about 4in on all sides. Do you think the pallets will rod over time?
Thanks for watching. I used Thompson’s Water Seal on the floor. It worked really well. I had one spot that started to become a problem when I spilled gas on it. Other than that it worked great. We sold our house last year and the foundation was still standing strong I think you should be ok with it jutting out. You may want to seal around the base of the walls, to keep water from seeping in. I don’t know that it will, but better safe than sorry. I shot an update video about two years ago. did you screw the pallets together? or anything like that to stop them from shifting away from each other? curious. I'm about to do a 7x7 shed and am using plastic pallets so no worry of rot.
Thanks for watching and asking a great question. In this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PXHSYPe674I.html you can see how we built the foundation. We did not screw the pallets together until we after we got it squared up with the base of the shed. Once we made sure it was square, we put the OSB subfloor on and screwed it onto the pallets. The final thing we did was anchor the entire structure to the ground (for safety and required by city code). The "porch" of the shed is some of the heavy duty plastic pallets. They actually started to get brittle within 3 years. Year 2, Nana put some astro turf type grass/rug over the entire thing to protect it some from the sun (thinking that may have been why it got brittle). We sold the house last summer and the shed was still going strong. In the 4 plus years we used and abused it, the foundation and shed held up really well!
Oh man. You are making me thin now 😆. We have since sold the house and it’s been a minute. I used like 1/2” x 12” screw-in anchors with, I think, 1/4”, maybe 3/8” stainless cables. Hope this helps as well. Good luck with yours. We sold the house almost two years ago, but the shed and foundation were still standing strong when we moved. Thanks again for watching.
I would like to thank you very much for this 4 part series. Your videos were a factor that made me buy this unit (Arrow WR1012) which I received Friday March 22nd. I do have a question concerning the anchoring of this unit. Where do the cables start?
Thanks for watching! I hope this shed works as well for you as it has for us. The anchor cables that I ran go from the anchor on one side of the shed to the anchor on the other side, laying between the pallet slats. So there are two cables that run all the way across the shed, one in the front and one in the back. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
eyazzie1984 thanks for checking out my video. I have not sealed around the base. The plan is to close it in with 1x6 planks. I do have a big dog and he tends to keep all the critters out of the back yard.
Thanks so much! I'm glad it helped. That was my goal. I really enjoy trying to help people figure out how to do things themselves and save a little cash while doing it.
Thanks for commenting and asking a great question. We have several liquidation stores near us as well as salvage places. A great place to get them is from repurposedmaterialsDOTcom (assuming there is one near you). There are always some posted for sale on Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist.
I'm going to be ordering this shed in the next week or so. And I'm about to build the base for it. I think the door is on the 10' side, but nothing is really clear on that. Can you confirm this please?
Thanks for the great question and watching our video. YES! We have been very happy with it. We have had it for close to 2 years, we have had severe weather and strong winds during that time. We have had kids, teens, adults and the elderly open and close the doors and they still work like new. It has been the perfect solution to our needs. Nana is especially grateful for the solution I came up with to keep the bugs from coming in with the fish filter foam. We have had no creepy crawlies, snakes, wasps, bees or hornets get in there even though they are prevalent where we live.
I just posted an update video to the shed foundation, so you can see how it looks. check it out at this link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A2w2CRsLDNI.html
AHHH!!!! Marine ply or pressure treaded 2x4's ... proper way... his wood will rot in no time.. I give it one or 2 seasons... he might as well have used particle board... oh wait.. he did... LMAO
j whit Thanks for watching. I did not use an Arrow anchor kit. I bought four screw in anchors, some 3/16 cable, some turn buckles and cable clamps. I got them all at Lowe’s. Hopefully this helps.
j whit I anchored the pallet foundation to the ground and then I used some heavy-duty 4” or 5” screws to anchor the shed frame to the base. The pallets I used for the base had big 4”x6” blocks that I drove those screws into.
Thanks for watching and great question! Have you ever heard of "improvise, adapt and overcome"? :) Well, I needed to turn the anchors below the floor, and when I was digging around the garage, I came across a water meter shutoff wrench. It worked great! Here is an Amazon link to a similar wrench. amzn.to/3quNMTA Hope this helps. Thanks again!
The instructions say to build it in one day. We took about a day and a half since we were filming. Thanks for watching and the comment. Happy building!
Hey, thanks watching! Each of the screws have a little plastic washer, but I wound-up using a little bit of brown silicone on top of and around each screw on the roof. I did purchase this shed from Lowes and had it delivered, free shipping to my house. I hope this helps. Thanks again!
