The 2017 ACP/CMA National Collegiate Media Convention was held in Dallas between October 25 and 29. Sixth Floor Museum Curator Stephen Fagin was invited to moderate a conversation with award-winning journalist and author Hugh Aynesworth as a keynote program at the Sheraton Hotel Dallas on October 27, 2017.
A science and aviation reporter for The Dallas Morning News, Aynesworth was the only reporter to be present at all of the major moments that occurred during the weekend of November 22, 1963: the president's assassination, the arrest of Lee Harvey Oswald, and the shooting of Oswald by Jack Ruby. In the years since, he has become a recognized authority on the assassination. He’s not only a gentleman but he’s an authority who was in on this story from the first rifle crack. I asked him his view on whether Oswald did it. His response- “I will go to my grave knowing firmly in my heart that Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated President Kennedy.”

@NxDoyle
@NxDoyle 2 года назад
Yes, he was murdered. Thanks for stating the obvious without further comment. You did the absolute minimum in that you just want us to infer that Oswald's death means we should treat him as 'innocent until proven guilty'. Unfortunately for Oswald and anyone else who dies before they have their day in court, "innocent until proven guilty" applies only to the living. People can say that Oswald is guilty of President Kennedy's assassination and there is no legal recourse, because in most legal jurisdictions, defamation laws don't apply to the dead.

And like Forrest Gump, his story is too good to be true. No real Greenbow County, no real Forrest. The only part of the movie set in Alabama that was actually in Al, was the Bayou LaBatre' shrimp boat scenes. The park bench is in Savannah, GA. See where Im going with this? Yes, i know it was just a movie, but alot of people actually believe that crap. But the movie JFK, was criticized to the hilt and now the majority of it, with the exception of a few liberties, have came to pass. Im wondering now since the Archives show that Oswald AND Clay Shaw ( and crew) along were CIA operatives/informants/assigned person, if Hugh will issue Jim Garrison a posthumous apology for working to under the Shaw case?? Dean Andrews and Clay Shaw were lying on the stand. Aynesworth and his cronies worked against Garrison to discredit him. Why? Because he is the Reporter who " knows" too much and SAW too much and covered up too much!! I doubt very seriously if he sat next to Ruby in the news lunchroom and then saw him on the 2nd floor placing an ad. If Ruby was excited about Kennedy coming to Dallas, why wouldnt he have been out on the street watching the motorcade? I believe he was. I always wonder why Brennan (I think was his name) was the only person who got such a great look at Oswald that he could describe him so perfectly with such a short glimpse of him, especially his height, unless he knew the height of the window from the floor?
@vernpascal1531
@vernpascal1531 4 года назад
Good point. I know people were watching the motorcade,but if Oswald did what he allegedly did...you would think a lot more people would have seen it. What's really ironic besides after the shots where everyone is charging the Knoll, and not pointing at the TSBD,( think about that ) is there are about as many people-4 or 5 that saw an entrance wound in the right temple at both Hospitals, as saw a barrel from the 6th floor window.
@andrewtomlinson5237
@andrewtomlinson5237 3 года назад
Brennan's interview with the WC makes interesting reading. That whole "How could he have seen the shooter standing at the window, when the window was 13" off the ground and open only 12?" might be addressed if he were talking about a different, bigger, window. Throughout his testimony Brennan talks about the "Texas Book Store" and a shooter somewhere up there. But he is also quite adamant that the shooter was in the 6th floor window on the far right. So he's vague and specific at the same time??? He also talks about the shooter being in the red brick building, which everyone assumes means the TSBD. But when he talks about the fire escapes... that's when the WC lawyer Bellin starts to shut the questioning down... it's like you can imagine the realisation dawning on him that Brennan may have been talking about TWO shooters in TWO buildings... Now, I have NO idea whether he was or not, but Bellin seemed to realise that the line of questioning might suggest that when written down and read back so he shuts that shit down QUICK TIME. For reference... Brennan was sitting on the SW corner at Houston and Elm, and the two buildings directly in his line of sight were... The TSBD and... the red brick Daltex Building... with the fire escapes... and much larger windows than the TSBD. All of a sudden Mr Brennan's evidence was consigned to the "It's really not that significant... we got our man..." I don't like to disparage such a man as Hugh Aynesworth, but that line about how Brennan's description was so uncanny it got Oswald down to a "couple of years" and "...maybe 10 pounds" is simply not true. Brennan described the 24 yr old 130-135 lb malnourished Oswald as "Mid Thirties - 165 lb" and that is the description that went out over the radio, and somehow led shoe salesman Johnny Brewer to identify Oswald, and had a woman working at the movie theatre (who never saw Oswald) call in a description of him to the police, which led the DPD to turn up mob handed and arrest Oswald... for shooting Officer Tippet. I'll make that clear... The cashier at the movie theatre phoned in a suspect in the KENNEDY shooting (Tippets murder had not even been announced on the radio let alone a description of the suspect...) and the police turned up and arrested Oswald for shooting Tippet...in a movie theatre where, even with the lights on, it wasn't bright enough to tell how heavy or old a seated man was... but hell no... they had their man!

@andrewtomlinson5237 3 года назад
@RG Knoll And, of course, who's going to listen to them anyway...
@andrewtomlinson5237
@andrewtomlinson5237 3 года назад
@RG Knoll I started to realise that the WC had no interest in the facts when I was told how they simply avoided the testimony of people like the Newmans and Charles Brehm. The Newmans were the closest witnesses to Kennedy at the time of the head shot with the clearest view of his reaction. Charles Brehm was on the passenger side of the limo, (opposite and facing the grassy knoll). If the WC could have asked for a perfect eye witness it would have been someone close to the scene... who was calm under fire and who was familiar with, and able to identify and recognise gunfire in an active shooter scenario. Brehm was 43 years old, and had served as an Army Ranger in WWII. He earned his spurs during the Allied Invasion of Normandy, and proceeded on the tour through France toward Berlin dealing with rifle shots from the enemy on a regular basis as they kicked Nazi ass across Western Europe. He was the perfect witness... and was never even questioned by the WC let alone asked to testify. If they didn't want people to theorise about conspiracies, maybe they should have considered a proper investigation instead of a smokescreen publicity device that landed in October '64... just in time to get Johnson a boost in the polls and actually see the man get elected to the post he'd inherited since JFK died.

Paula Harris Baca Howard Brennan didnt describe him well at all. He said the man he saw was in his early 30s. Oswald had turned 24 the month before/ He said the man weighed 165 to 170lbs. Oswald was a very skinny 131lbs He said the man he saw wore light clothes but Oswald was wearing a dark burgundy plaid shirt and dark trousers (Brennan told police Oswald was wearing completely different clothes to the man in the window. Something he also testified to) The only detail he got right was the height. He said 5 foot 10 and Oswald was about that but he did say the man he saw was standing which would be an impossibility whilst shooting. Then claiming he only saw from the waist up. In effect, he described a man that wasnt very young or very old. A man that wasnt very light or very heavy and a man that wasnt very tall or very short. How many men do you think were around 30 years old, 160lbs and 5 foot 10 just walking around Dealey Plaza that afternoon? Its an incredibly generic description but wasnt very close to Oswald.

You are wrong and Hugh is right. Oswald fired all the shots in Dealley Plaza that day and the Warren Commission, while having a few things that could have been handled better but they got the killer right. The 1979 House Committee on Assassinations spent more time and money and came to the same conclusion. All the shots that hit Kennedy were fired by Oswald. They did conclude from a stuck police motorcycle microphone that a second shooter fired one shot but he missed. More recently the motorcycle microphone recording was dismissed by better analysis because there are no gunshots on the police recording at all. Just various background sounds.

The TSBD had other offices within its building, was 7 storeys high and had a basement, loading docks, It had many different rooms and employees locked outside when they sealed off the TSBD but you want to say Oswald was the only one missing? They had press men, cops, Secret Service agents, FBI agents running up and down doing searches. They didnt even find the so called snipers nest until after 1pm. No Honest investigation would ever have accepted the magic Bullet Theory or no shots from the Grassy Knoll.
@VTPSTTU
@VTPSTTU 5 лет назад
On the contrary, the shot from the grassy knoll is difficult to believe. No matter how much Mark Lane tried to skew Lee Bowers testimony, Lee Bowers had a perfect view of where a gunman would have to stand, and he didn't see a gunman. Three men were standing on the steps just ten yards from where the grassy knoll shot had to originate, and they showed no signs of reaction to a shot fired from ten yards behind them. The problem with rejecting the magic bullet theory is that the shot that came through the president's neck had to go somewhere. There was a point where the single bullet trajectory would have been a straight line. Every idea depends on a mixture of probabilities, and different people will asses those probabilities differently. An honest investigation could have accepted both of these ideas, particularly the lack of a shot from behind the picket fence. An honest investigation could come to wrong conclusions, but both of these ideas are legitimate.

It's not difficult to believe at all-over 50 witnesses in Dealey Plaza,many closest to the Limo at the time of the shots,heard shots from the knoll. Since they were spread all over-throughout the Plaza and there were no large Bldgs. On the Knoll/overpass there is no echoes ,as there would have been around the Depository/Dal Tex etc. Read the first reports of the Dallas Doctors and the suppressed interviews of the HSCA Medical Evidence. Respectfully, I must take issue on Hugh’s assessment of why some hated Kennedy in Texas. He said that some hated him because he was Catholic and a Democrat. It is well known that Texas was totally Blue in those days, Republicans were just not a factor in statewide elections. The people holding the anti-UN posters were more than likely southern conservative Democrats. So the hate was interparty as these Southern Democrats took exception to a northern Catholic liberal. The Democrat Convention of 1968 was when the party made its move to be left of center and that continues today. But anyway, to say Kennedy was a hated because he was a Democrat in this context is just not true. Hugh is a true legend and I respect him and his storied career, but he in several instances in the video allows his bias in the context of today’s political environment cloud his memory of what is historical fact.

Vern Pascal Your post is incorrect and nonsense. You clearly do not understand the facts: You state: "Wrong! Over 40 witnesses heard shots come from the overpass/Knoll" Of the 163 witnesses who testified initially to the DPD, FBI and WC, approx 39% thought ALL the shots came from the right front - including the overpass. Approx 55% of these witnesses thought ALL the shots came from the TSBD area and high up. Less than ten persons thought the shots came from more than one direction. As we know that two shots at least came from the rear, we can deduce that the group who thought all the shots came from the front were mistaken. 12 workers and 2 DPD were on the overpass - no one could have fired from there and nor would they - they had no cover. Lee Bowers in the signal box overlooking the GK area stated there was no one behind the fence at the time of the shots. Zapruder and Sitzman stated there were no shots to their right from the GK area - from which they were only a few feet away. You state: "including Dave Powers and Kennedy O'Donnell" Yes they thought all the shots came from the front - ALL the shots. They were wrong and they accepted that. "the proof that the fatal; shot came from the right front is not only the Z Film," The Z film does not prove - as in with 100% certainty where the head shot came from but it comes very close to doing so and that is from the rear: The head is propelled forwards by 2.5 inches on impact at 7 feet per second. The head is also forced DOWN. 85% of the visible blood spatter is propelled forwards of the EOP where the bullet entered. All the 5 visible pieces of bone are propelled up and forwards of the head. Zapruder frames 312 to 313. You will NOT see this movement at normal speed it is TOO fast. Google "Zapruder frames Costella Edit" download all 486 frames for free. The two bone fragments found in the grass including the Harper fragment were found several feet forwards of the location of JFK's position when he was hit. "don't insult us with any Neurospasm is quicker than a speeding bullet garbage at 2500-3000 feet per second which is going to be through the head before any opposite reaction" The back and to the left movement is MUCH slower than that and your figures are incorrect anyway. The bullet that struck JFK was travelling at approx 1900 ft per second. The back and to the left movement is about 1/5th of the speed of the forward head movement. Had JFK been struck from the front, his head would have been pushed back by approx 3 inches within a fraction of a second - ie about 1/20th. It is not. "and that is the earliest statements of The Dallas Doctors." Non of the Dallas doctors commented in the source of the head shot on Nov 22 1963. Perry stated he thought the neck wound looked like an entry - as it was very small. He then stated he was wrong - which he was - and wrong to speculate. Subsequently the Dallas doctors expressed their recollection of the location of the wound and they were divided. They never voiced a "group" opinion that tallied. That is a myth. 8 thought the wound was above the ear and extended toward the temple. 4 thought the wound was right in the back of the head. 4 thought the wound was above the ear and extended back round the head. This is typical - a recent study in the US showed that ER doctors are wrong in court approx 50% of the time when it comes to details like precise wound placement and side of body. This is exactly what happened in Dallas. Subsequently all but 2 of the 16 attending doctors accepted that the wound was indeed where the autopsy showed it to be. The skull x-rays show fractures radiating outwards from back to front. The skull x rays show the exit wound to be above the ear extending to the temple. The Zapruder film confirms this. Ignorance is bliss Vern Pascal hey. You are wrong on almost every point you make - you were right about Powers and O'Donnell and that is it. The level of knowledge of facts ref this case here in some cases is simply embarrassing and your post is a great example of that. For people reading here, if you want to understand the shooting try the web sites of David Von Pein and Prof John McAdams (McAdams Post). If you want to understand the shots, wounds and ballistics read Larry Sturdivan "The JFK Myths". With the work of the Assassination Records Review Board, many more pages of documents have been released showing how tightly bound Aynesworth was with the intelligence community. It has been demonstrated that Aynesworth was - at the minimum - working with the Dallas Police, Shaw's defense team, and the FBI. He was also an informant to the White House, and had once applied for work with the CIA. As noted elsewhere, in the annals of this case, there is no reporter (with the exception of Walter Sheridan) who had such extensive contacts with those trying to cover up the facts in the JFK case. Sorry, but I'm just not buying what he's selling. Why? Well for starters about forty witnesses in Dealey Plaza either saw a muzzle flash, saw gun smoke, smelled gunpowder or believed at least one shot came from the area of picket fence on the grassy knoll. The simple fact is that LBJ chose to limit the scope of the Warren Investigation to precisely follow the outline given in FBI Director Hoover's November 29th, 1963 preliminary report to LBJ. We know this because LBJ continued Kennedy's practice of recording his phone and office conversations. He is on tape saying that very thing to Hoover during a phone call that day. Once together the Warren Commissioners realized they were boxed in to essentially rubber stamp the conclusion i Hoover's preliminary report. Reliable witnesses to the presence of a knoll shooter included Dallas PD motorcycle policeman who dropped his bike at street level and ran up the Knoll where he smelled gunpowder, only to be turned away by a man flashing what appeared to be legitimate Secret Service Identification. Many now believe that man was CIA covert operator Bernard Barker, who was arrested about a decade later while participating in the Watergate Break-in. Texas Senator Ralph Yarborough also claimed he smelled gun powder while in the motorcade on Elm Street. He was in the car with LBJ and his wife, two cars behind the Kennedy limousine. So unless Lee Oswald was simultaneously shooting from the 6th floor of the TSBD AND firing from the picket fence on the Grassy Knoll, we have at least two shooters. That, ladies and gentlemen, is proof of a conspiracy, not the actions of an angry lone nut. For the 6th Floor Museum to continue to perpetuate the falsehood that Lee Oswald acted alone is at least regrettable, at worst complicit in the cover-up which persists to this day. What the proponents of the single bullet theory at the time of the Warren Commission didn't count on was how many people would become private researchers who collectively looked deeper into this topic than either the FBI or the Warren Commission. Honorable men and women like Dorothy Kilgallen, Mark Lane. Gary Mack, Josiah Thompson, Jim Marrs, Sylvia Meagher, David Lifton, Fletcher Prouty and many others. Warren Commission apologists like Arlen Spector, Gerald Ford, Gerald Posner and Vincent Bugliosi also didn't count on the Zapruder Film being released, which clearly showed Kennedy's head and torso being thrust violently back and to the left - something all but anatomically impossible if the shots were only fired from the rear.

Of the 178 people who stated under oath about the shots only 4 thought shots came from more than one place. Give or take a couple either way... As we know 2 shots came from the rear, we can logically deduce that if almost everyone thought all three shots came from the same place, we can fairly conclude so did the one that missed and disintegrated. Of the approx 265 people including the above who are on record ref the shots, LESS than ten thought shots came from two places AND that there were more than 3 shots. Initially a considerable number of people thought there were only two shots. The number of people in the Plaza area is estimated to be between 500 and 700. The number who had the potential to see the shots strike was about 300. The number of people who claimed to see a GK gunman on 22 November 1963 was........ Z E R O

So he's an expert on the assassination, but he's never seen the Zapruder film showing that the head shot came from the grassy knoll. How's that work?

What head shot coming from the grassy knoll? In terms of the head shot, the bullet entered from behind. The wound was a hole shaped like the bullet. The bullet exited and blew out a huge chunk of the president’s skull on the upper right side.

@@normagrimstad8869 I'm referring to the head shot that came from the grassy knoll. The one that shot the chunk of brain and skull across the back of the hood behind Jackie, which she then crawled onto the trunk to retrieve, and gave to the doctors at the hospital.

@@HomeAtLast501 "I'm referring to the head shot that came from the grassy knoll. The one that shot the chunk of brain and skull across the back of the hood behind Jackie, which she then crawled onto the trunk to retrieve, and gave to the doctors at the hospital." It has never been proven that Jackie grabbed any object of any type from the trunk. She herself did not corroborate that because she said she did not even remember climbing out onto the trunk at all. And Clint Hill merely said that she appeared to be reaching for something on the trunk, but he never said he actually saw her grab anything. Also the piece of brain or skull or whatever it was that she supposedly handed to Dr. Marion "Pepper" Jenkins could have easily fallen out of JFK's head while his head was in her lap on the way to the hospital. After all, she herself told Theodore White one week after the assassination that, ""I kept holding the top of his head down, trying to keep the brains in." I've often thought it strange that some people seem to think that the "only possible way" that Jackie could have had a piece of his head in her hand would have been to grab it off the trunk, when that quite obviously is not the only possible way. And I'm curious as to why you only mentioned material from his head landing behind him on the trunk, but didn't bother to mention that all four people sitting in front of JFK, John Connally, Nellie Connally, William Greer, and Roy Kellerman, were also showered with blood and pieces of JFK's brain, and that such material also landed all over the inside of the car, including far forward of where JFK had been sitting, and that pieces of his skull were also found inside the car forward of where he had been sitting. For example, let me quote what John Connally himself said about this on April 21, 1964: "She [his wife, Nellie] was sitting, of course, on the jump seat, so I reclined with my head in her lap, conscious all the time, and with my eyes open; and then, of course, the third shot sounded, and I heard the shot very clearly. I heard it hit him. I heard the shot hit something, and I assumed again--it never entered my mind that it ever hit anybody but the President. I heard it hit. It was a very loud noise, just that audible, very clear. Immediately I could see on my clothes, my clothing, I could see on the interior of the car which, as I recall, was a pale blue, brain tissue, which I immediately recognized, and I recall very well, on my trousers there was one chunk of brain tissue as big as almost my thumb, thumbnail, and again I did not see the President at any time either after the first, second, or third shots, but I assumed always that it was he who was hit and no one else." So why did you only mention material from JFK's head landing behind him without also mentioning that plenty of that material landed in front of him as well? Is it because you did not even know about this? Or did you know but purposefully omitted mentioning it in order to spread misinformation about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy by acting as if material from his head only landed behind him but none in front of him?

@@Caeruleo We've got a live one in the audience. She actually gave the head material to a doctor at the hospital. Regardless, son, all you have to do is check your brain at the door and watch the film with YOUR OWN EYES and you'll see he was shot from the grassy knoll.

Aynesworth has great reporting instincts. One thing - the THIRD shot was from the front. On exit, this shot, unfortunately, blew out the Rt. REAR of KENNEDY's head...onto the Limo's trunk.

Strange that the rear of Kennedy's head is perfectly intact after the head shot in the Zapruder film, the Nix film and the Muchmore film, in the x-rays, in the pathology report, in the autopsy and the autopsy photos then.

@@fiveofever2971 Actually misinformation is becoming a trait of the mainstream media. We tend to find out the truth only long after the event.
