I've seen lots of tv shows where when a pregnant woman goes into labor, all of the friends and family go to the hospital to wait in the delivery/waiting room. Growing up I wondered why my family didn't do that, until I learned that real labor can take hours, if not days.

Mega Man X Powered Up The good ones, like Colbert and Noah, are still having great, if not improved, ratings though. Great to Good comedians can always get a laugh without a live crowd. That’s RU-vids appeal to me for comedic shows(or channels) like this, old cracked, and College Humour to name just 3. Now, success or failure is purely predicated on the performer(s) and their performance. They can’t rely on known basic group mechanics of: “people are more likely to laugh, when others around them laugh” like with standup comedian shows. Instead they have to be funny on their own.
@justanotherhappyhumanist8832
@justanotherhappyhumanist8832 3 года назад
Mega Man X Powered Up Yeah, Covid has made me realise that I’d rather get my “comedy news” from RU-vid channels than most talk show hosts...and that half the time, it was the laugh track keeping me watching those comedy news shows. Never would have guessed how unfunny and boring some of them seem without it.
@MegaManXPoweredUp
@MegaManXPoweredUp 3 года назад
@@justanotherhappyhumanist8832 Yeah, I usually get my comedy news from Internet Today. Instead of the formal host you would get in those talk shows, it's much more casual, with two hosts that feel like they're just a couple of your friends making fun of how everything sucks.

RIGHT? like sure you can just watch the show silently with subtitles, but some of the jokes (a lot of the jokes) require sound because the intonation is like half the comedy. jerry seinfelds only funny cuz he has a funny yelling/freak out voice that sounds like a slide whistle and a trombone had a baby

Forgive me if someone has already pointed this out; I'm coming late to this thread. There's a 90's comedy starring John Ritter called Stay Tuned where Ritter's character literally finds himself (and his wife, played by Pam Dawber, of Mork and Mindy fame) trapped in tv hell after being tricked by a hellspawn cable representative. After bouncing from show to show in an attempt to escape, he eventually lands in - wait for it - Three's Company, the iconic 70s sitcom in which the real Ritter starred. If anything else, the casting was inspired. JAMES

@@Drjordanbreeding On snap! It's the man himself! I am so glad to see Cracked coming back in any way, and a big fan of everything you are doing here! I hope you don't mind if I give you a little free focus group style feedback. Don't be a afraid, it will be overwhelmingly positive, but is at risk at being somewhat lengthy. So with this episode I really enjoyed all the extra cut away stuff and you running up to the set from the stairs. That was a really nice touch and so true to the content you were covering, also personally I love breaking the fourth wall. I hope it wasn't too much additional effort because I thought it really added to the production value and I'd like to see more like that. When you pointed out how things are without the laugh track, especially the bit with Jake from Brooklyn 99 (which I am presently binging my way through) although it did make me feel real exposed because I, like Jake, continue to make over the top jokes and mannerisms that often do not get laughs in person, but I just keep doing it (screw human people, I'm hilarious, but it's more keyed to the humor of those on the other side of my own 4th wall) I will have to say the stats on peoples sex partners seem... completely inaccurate, at least in 2020 and the last decade. The national center for health statistics should update that. (Actually that's a possible video theory idea for you: that sitcoms could have made us more sexual by normalizing promiscuity) "What even is a friend? What does that word even mean?" Again, very exposed, lol, but that's relatability to your audience. Kudos for that. I think that's most of what I've got to say about this one. I hope you keep going and build up steam for reviving the channel! One of my favorite shows was "People Watching" and imo it was one of the most important entertainment shows on the internet. It never got the recognition it truly deserved. Is there any hope of a season 3? I got the first 2 and treasure it. A little suggestion for you on growing the channel: maybe try to do some crossover/collaborations with other RU-vidrs. I would encourage you to check out BowserVids (He's looking to grow and has a character called Onyx that you could do a horror themed video on with him) MannShorts (they are mostly known for Dnd content but they do other stuff and maybe there is some possible overlap for you two) and Ryan George of screen rant (This one is probably the most likely because your comedy styles are similar and a collab seems obvious). Best of luck to you man, Godspeed.
@Drjordanbreeding
@Drjordanbreeding 4 года назад
@@yourfriendlyinternetmeatshield Hey I really appreciate this thoughtful comment. As far as People Watching, I have no idea. That's not something I could pull of on my own, obviously, and I'm not sure what Cracked's plans are at large. As far as collaboration, it's tricky. I'm working on some stuff with a few channels, but literally the worst-performing episode in this entire series was my pseudo-collaboration with Hard Drive haha. I mean, I get that it wasn't really a full-on collab or anything, but people don't seem excited about crossover and change too quickly. It's all a process, and even though this is a channel with a ton of subscribers and content, in many ways it feels almost like starting over. There's just a long way to go to make the thing financially viable and scalable in any major way. We'll just have to see what happens!
@yourfriendlyinternetmeatshield
@yourfriendlyinternetmeatshield 4 года назад
@@Drjordanbreeding I didn't have much hope for People Watching. I think it was even still around after the rest of Cracked was no more, simply because it had already been paid for and animation takes so long to produce. Oh well. To be honest I didn't know who Hard Drive was, but I still enjoyed the episode. It didn't have the impact it would had have if I were familiar with him though. You really are starting over man... There is so much content on the channel, and I'm thankful it's all still there, but it's kinda just you trying to be the phoenix ya know? I was late to the party for Cracked, binging years worth of videos a short time before they called it quits. As such it is probably more in my recent memory than alot of other people. Still, I think you can do it. If you can figure out how to make the algorithm work for you and get the attention of those still subscribed, that would be so helpful. Your videos do really retain the flavor of the channel and it's past content, while being up to date, and new. Is anyone else going to be helping you get this thing up and running like it once was, or is it basically you going solo? Either way, best of luck to you, and thanks for getting back to me. I'm rooting for you!

In The Office (UK version at least) there was no laugh track, and it still featured people saying funny stuff surrounded by other people who don't laugh or even smile. This comes off as particularly cruel because most of the comedy is about how awkward the situations are, and that awkwardness could easily be broken by someone laughing it off. Compare that with M*A*S*H, which aired in the UK without a laugh track. In that, it comes off as completely natural - different characters will laugh, or at least smile at jokes, depending on the situation and their relationships. Weirdly, a show set during the Korean war would probably the least hellish by the standards of this video.
@AbsolXGuardian
@AbsolXGuardian 4 года назад
The only sitcom I can think of that doesn't fall into these is MASH, because it's no regular sitcom. 1. The preferred way to watch the show is actually without the laugh track. It was even aired in the UK without it. The quips aren't to make their friends laugh, it's to help preserve one's sanity. 2. No kids hang around for more than an episode. 3. Hawkeye and Trapper are the only characters who are always going on dates with different nurses, something the other characters will actually point out. Also by season 4 that stuff barely happened. We never get a concrete number of how many unique partners are involved. 4. External forces are responsible for keeping the characters together, and ripping them apart at High Command's whim. 5. There's character development and continuity. Of course, it's still hell, because it takes place over 11 years of a three year war.
