LOL! So glad you brought up the PFD! I haven’t lived in Alaska for even a year yet but I will qualify for the next one. I don’t even give it a second thought! No matter what the amount is ….great! If they take it away, I will be fine. And you are spot on with the crime rate statistic. I think the narrow minded part may get some people angry but I think I know what you are talking about. I moved here from Colorado which is basically California 2.0 🤣 I live in the Copper River Basin now and the people I run into here are very political but they don’t want anything to change. They don’t want Alaska to get more people. More tourists yes but not more residents. They are very passionate about that. I did a video on “Don’t buy property in Alaska” and got a lot of negative comments from Alaskans. I used to watch your channel all the time until I finally moved to Alaska! 😁

I have always been of the thought that the PFD should be used to fund improvements in infrastructure and education. People come up here and think a few thousand is going to make their life better when the cost of living is something like 130% of the national average. It has only paid out about $44 thousand since 1982. There was a state income tax around then also.

Hey that's awesome! How are you liking it so far? Yeah, that's the pattern of every group that moves into an area; they want to immediately shut the door behind them. If we want a fun tourist destination, then we should keep going as we are, but if we want a thriving, healthy state then we need to focus on our actual problems.

That would be such a better use of the money. The government needs an alternate option for raising taxes other than just raising property taxes, because that is getting pretty ridiculous in some places. But, I'm also hesitant to just hand over the PFD to the government because they've shown they don't manage funds very well and everyone has a little pet project they want to siphon money to.

@@alaska_realtor You only have to look at the failed projects the ADEC has blown money on that were probably someone’s pet projects . I remember when the first big oil royalty checks started coming in everyone got money. I remember going to a village of about 500 people and they had an elevator in a city building. I sat next to the elevator tech on the plane going out to do the annual inspection. But things like that seem a little ridiculous.

If I could make a recommendation; step away from the camera, ditch the ring light and work on looking directly into the lens.

I'd say, who gives a crap about any of that? Content matters, sound matters, his lighting and where he looks doesn't affect anything. Not trying to be rude, just my opinion.

Relocation advice: I was born and raised in Los Angeles, I moved to San Bernardino, I moved to Portland Oregon and I love the diversity and options of living in big cities that mid and small sized cities lack. Anyway, I am tired of people, traffic and the BS. I want to be left alone, work, enjoy the nature. I miss Oregon because of it. I love the winter, I hate the heat. I don't mind jackets. I understand local politics and I invest in them because I do plan to be a local but my involvement is only to voting. I don't like to get too involved and stay out of it a bit. Is alaska a good choice for me? I was thinking about getting a relocation assist. Job, take the money and check it out for a few months for a few seasons before pulling the trigger. What's your advice?

More concerned about the insect situation. Maps online are basically useless. Does the Kenai peninsula get swarms of mosquitos following people and covering u so it looks like fur? Or is that only on the north slope?

small towns create small people. yeah, because they know what they need to survive and prosper. just because you are well traveled doesn’t mean you know what’s best for a small town or group of people.

What about the winter and the dark. All the retirees move to Washington and Arizona. Makes a problem here. You get old and can't take the brutal cold.

Hawaii is the same, just a million tourists and lots of amateur hour corruption.

I would honestly expect at least for the corruption to be a bit classier there. That's disappointing. lol

the PFD thing is just a classic example of welfare dependency in general being terrible.
