Great presentation! I particularly appreciate the comments on the apparent decline of public education in Malaysia (which unfortunately is evident in many countries), and the complicated differences with respect to second languages in Malaysia and Singapore. An American friend of mine who lives in Arizona but grew up until her teens in Malaysia can speak English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Malaysian fluently, and she can also get by in Hokkien/Taiwanese. That’s really amazing. I wish I had grown up in a country in which people become conversant in multiple languages by virtue of cultural diversity and an educational system that recognizes the importance and value of multilingualism.

Thanks for enlightening about the education and language differences between Singapore and Malaysia. One question, PR holders children in Singapore can only attend local schools, not international ones?
@corporatebreakoutcouple
@corporatebreakoutcouple Год назад
If the child is a PR or foreigner, according to MOE, it does not state that they need to attend local schools. If the child is a citizen, then definitely needs to attend a local school (a special waiver is needed if the parent wants to enrol the child to an international school).

Definition of good life for Malaysian is "SENANG" doing nothing. Need to work is bad life for them. How can they survived in the 21st century without continuous upgrading to be relevant putting effort to excel and working to contribute to economy and society. If you hate your job you are not adaptable. There are many people who likes going to work facing challenges. Eg a programmer faces problem everyday at work and he enjoys fixing those problems everyday without stress. In fact he look forward to the challenges that keeps him going. Continuous upgrading future skill is the most important to keep relevant and making decision using critical thinking not emotion. And if you find that is stressful you are not in the 21st century

A very well presented video on living in Singapore versus Malaysia. You covered almost everything. Again I can't say who is better in terms of living standards, wages level, purchasing powers, accomodations, even land area etc. To me, if you take the wages level in Malaysia, it is definitely not cheap in their living standard and Singapore is definitely expensive if you compare both countries. As you said, there are always pros and cons if you make a comparison. For me, I would like to live in Singapore as an adult chasing after my dreams and materialistic wants and to retire in Malaysia with the much slower pace of life and to live much more comfortably or even rustically in a beach home than in Singapore. Cheers!!

In The Netherlands kids of even a millioner work as a dish washer can be normal. Kids in the Netherlands, no matter how wealthy the parents or grandparents are encouraged to earn their money. Children can ask their neighbours whether they need somebody to clean their cars or tidy up their garage. It's normal in Dutch society. If kids want to have a mountain bike, they work and save. It could take years to buy the stuffs they want, it's an education.

Agree. The quantity and quality of ingredients are different. If you want exactly the same of everything, you probably have to pay the same price, with currency conversion. I would say the noticeable differences are probably the cooking styles and taste (recipes), take bak kut teh and hokkien mee for example, which are different for the same food on both sides of the causeway. Talk to the farmers in Cameron Highlands and they will tell you that the majority of their best quality fruits and vegetables are packed daily and sent across the causeway.
