Wondering if you can still live like royalty for under $1500 in Fortaleza, Brazil in 2024? Join me as I break down my monthly expenses, revealing whether the dream is still alive. Let's dive in!
I forgot to mention a few things in the miscellaneous category like car repairs. But those are already factored into the overall cost I talked about in the video. Also, our data plans, Netflix, and Spotify subscriptions, they're all part of our regular utility expenses.
And about our trips to Colombia? Well, they're just filed under trips. Our last one was a combo deal - family visit plus some work stuff. So yeah, flights and stay were paid for that trip. Before our recent Colombia visit, we hadn't taken a trip for quite a few months in Fortaleza.
Take our car, for instance. It's not like it breaks down every month, so that's not a recurring cost. And sometimes, we skip our trips altogether.
And what about phones and computers? Well, those expenses even out over time. We're not buying new gadgets every month or even every trip. Both our phones and computers were our first new ones in the last 5 years or more. So yeah, when you average it all out, it comes to a little over 2k USD, just like I mentioned in the video.
We don't always indulge in the 160 reais (33 USD) rodizio experience. Our meals average around 75 reais (15 USD) for the both of us.

This is awesome to break down the expenses. It gives a good perspective of how much it would be to live there.

Excellent content. My rent in Laurel, Maryland is $1,480 USD for a two bedroom, two bathroom with nice appliances. Grocery prices varies depending where I shop for food. ALDIs is my main go to for most grocery staples. I do not eat out a lot and prefer to cook my main meals and finish leftovers at work for lunch.

Damn that ain't bad at all Billy. It's very very hard to live on 1000 usd a month per person in the states and I'm happy for you and your girl! Hopefully soon I can relocate to Brazil

Thank again for your update about the truth what it cost. I was surprised about your apartment cost. That was a nice surprise since I been looking at Airbnb in Fortaleza. My cost are close to yours but at $2,800 dollars a month. That includes car insurance and registration, gas and medication going out 3 times a month to a nice restaurant. We own our house and have solar for electricity. Also because of our age the health insurance is 4,500 Reals a month for me and my girlfriend. We are a little older then you 😊.

I make about $5,000 a month after taxes and I can’t afford anything in Atlanta. After bills and food I probably end up with $200 of pocket money. 😢 I’m definitely visiting Brazil for 4 months to see if I could live there.

Do whatever you can to do some serious down grading! Save as much as you can! It will be worth it! Coming to Brazil (which was never a plan) was a blessing in disguise for me.

you said property taxes....did you rent or buy?
@BillyGringo

In Brazil, apartment owners always pass the property tax, called IPTU, onto the renters.

So, would I be able to make it on $1400 a month as a single guy?
@BillyGringo
@BillyGringo 12 дней назад
My place is $800 bucks with rent and bills included. That leaves you with $600 or R$3000 a month for whatever else. Mind you, there are places that are cheaper than my place. Depends on your standard of living. I found places for a little more than half of what I am paying but I would not live there.
