You can also get out the dorms early with a hardship request. For example if you were a fully functioning adult with a fully furnished house/apt before the military and now that you are in the dorms you have to put all your belongings in storage and pay out of pocket for it. You can file paperwork to get out the dorms early. Usually they let you out the dorms but it is not 100% guaranteed
That's one heck of a view! Smart move on moving off base, I know guys that spent 4 years on there bases and never left, actually have a family member who was in Japan and never left base, always good to involve yourself in the life of the city that you're living in, especially knowing that you'll probably never go back again
I've been thinking intently about my living situation this week for AF, then this video pops into my feed! 🤯 I sometimes wonder if there's an invisible force putting bits of education in my path when I think a thing lol It's so weird. Like thinking of a person you haven't seen in 2 years bc you miss them, then their suddenly at the coffee shop you randomly decide to stop at the next day b/c you were thirsty with a sugar craving lol I've been following your page for about a year, I guess your random videos I've never watched before are finding themselves in the right place and time; in a very unique way lol Thank you. Keep it coming! Love and Peace man!
You are such an inspiration to young people who are joining the military. Thank you for doing what you do. Your gonna make a great husband someday to some lucky lady, holdout for the right one you are awesome.
I'm so nervous about BMT.. just recently subscribed to your channel, you have the best videos portraying personal experience with the military. I look forward to seeing more videos.
I'll be leaving for BMT in about 5 months, I'm kinda nervous but I'm just kinda bummed out that I'll be far from home for awhile since we have tech school right after. Also, do you get a weekend vacation after BMT right before Tech school?
+Ol Saint Lit don't be nervous just do as your MTI says and I doubt it. right after your final day of airmans week at bmt you go straight to tech school
Tim Munson . How long have you been in the military? Just curious..I don't have fam in the military, I guess that's why I'm super nervous.- Not being able to ask for guidance. ..
When I arrived at the base back in the early 70's, luckily I was already Sergeant. The guy showed me around the dorm. I decided then I was not staying there. Went back into town and got a hotel room for a few days. Found a room for rent, later a downstairs apartment and never lived on base for the last 1 and 1/2 years of my time.
As of 8/8/18, the BAH rule hasnt changed at Eglin AFB, you still get your BAH and whatever you have over is yours. Single airman e-4 and below BAH is $1170/mo. I contacted base housing about moving in on base with a roommate and they said that if you decided to room with someone in on base housing, you split the cost of the BAH for a SrA with dependents, which at Eglin is $1425/mo. Our on base housing is a civilian company not the Air Force, like CE for example. I am about to move out of the dorms and I have been exploring all of my options when it comes to that. Wanted to clarify that you and the Airman you live with on base, do NOT split the rates you get for BAH you split the cost of BAH of an E-4 with dependents which is about $250 more. so it was about $725/mo to live in on base housing with a Roommate.
I love your channel! You do such a great job teaching us all about the USAF and life in Alaska! I want to move to Anchorage next year and would like to know what would be the rent for a house like this? What does it typically cost for a place? If I rented a home like yours then I could split the rent with 2 or 3 others and make it affordable. I heard that Anchorage is expensive. Is it really?
Hi WildBlueYonder, thank you for continuing to post such awesome videos. I've look into the 2018 BAH revision you mentioned and have come upon opposing answers. Are you certain of this revision?
Hey first of all thanks for the videos, second I just watched Kyle Gotts video for battlefield Arman bmt. would you have any more information other than they do more pt? thanks
Hello +WildBlueYonder you probably mentioned this but I didn't pay attention, the way you were on base and had free meals a day, will it be the same with a house on base instead of dorm on base?
Just wondering even if you don't use your PCS did you get any help or benefit paying for this house? And will the BAH changes affect you at all living off base , probably not but just wondering
Hey WBY! I like your videos a lot and I want to be an officer in the Air Force when I grow a little older. I had a question though: What is your job in the Air Force if you wouldn't mind sharing?
When you said you can move out when you get married , is that still possible when you leave BMT like right after BMT ? And do you move out to another place on base or are you able to be off base ?
Hey man, I’m an A1C stationed in Ramstein, Germany. Last week they gave me the option to move off base and I took it, I’m almost at my 1 year mark on station. 1 year left. I’m waiting for my housing brief or whatever. But I’m kind of hesitant and want to back out of it and stay in the dorms. What would you say? And do you know if since I signed those papers with my first sergeant is it too late for me to back out? No one knows that answer.
man can u please make a video on how to graduate online from university at AF while working as a Security Force. About their shifts, work times, free times etc. Also, I really want to be a cyber operations operator or ISR but those jobs requires top secret security clearance as far as i know. I am really interested at computers and programming in general. I had some small projects that i ve done before regarding programming but i heard getting top secret clearance is really hard so thats why im planning to join security forces if i fail to get those 2 jobs... When in SecForce am i going to have free time to study? + Free time to hang out or am i supposed to sacrifice my entire social life? If u can answer those that would be awesomr and really helpful for my future and if u can interview with a SecForce member that would be loooot moooree coolleer man. Thank you for your service to our country and thank you so much for helping people like me with ur videos. I really enjoy watching ur videos they are both educational and fun to watch.
What would you recommend doing with sign on bonuses? I was told save or invest them but not given specifics on those options. I know not to blow it on a car or other stuff.
i know im young but this question have been on my mind for a while so im 15 i planning on going to the air force once i graduate. if you get pregnant while you're in the air force and say you're a single mom are you allowed to take your child with you if/when you get deployed?
Question about looking at housing on-base. You said that after the 2 choices you have to accept the third on, can you say "hey you know what I'll stick with the first one" or you have to accept the one you are seeing right now?
Hey Wild blue. I'm a senior in high school about to sign my contract with the airforce. My girlfriend of 5 years is a junior in high school and plans to go in to the airforce as well. How would our living situation work? Meaning after her tech school would she be able to move in with me (if I'm out of the dorms) after she graduates tech school? I've read and saw that the airforce does there best to station couples together. Just looking for more info on this matter, thank you!!
Hey Matt, big fan here, love your vids...I'm having a hard time deciding whether I should join army or marine corps jrotc, what do you recommend? thanks in advance
If you're talking about high school jrotc then it really doesn't matter at all. If you're talking about college rotc, then just go with whatever branch you want to join. I met a guy at meps who was in the marines and was joining the army because they treated him badly in the marines. I also don't hear many good stories from the marines, but everyones experience is different.
I’m an e-4 prior service, do I have to live in the dorms? I’m packing up an entire house and my fiancé is coming with me. I don’t care if it’s on-base or off-base I just don’t want to have to live in the dorms. Do you have to have a roommate if you live on base
Hey, Im headed to elemdorf in the next 2 weeks, any advice, this is my first duty station. Im from jersey and im not sure if the clothes/gear i have is good for the climate
Jordan Jones my friend actually loves it we both recently got in a few months ago and he's in elmendorf he said the scenery is beautiful but the weather just sucks from time to time lol
anyone know what happened to lafayette life or something like that? he was also on youtube but i think he deleted it or something. i miss his intro of January 28th by j cole
i believe there's a basic housing allowance granted to at least active duty members (idk about reserves or ANG) it can workout that if u pay $800 for rent, u can get $1350 monthly from the air force as basic housing allowance, so it seems u can actually profit from moving out.
Is their ever a snow day in the military? Fpr example one day it snowed so bad last year here in Michigan my boss called us and said we dont have to come in??
WildBlueYonder, Are you planning on buying your own home soon? Also I ship out for aerospace propulsion on march 28th. Let me know if you have any tips, advice or anything to watch out for.
Sir I'm finance in the Air Force and as of right it has not came down that u will have to report ur BAH in 2018. If you have any info please link it to me to verify
WildBlueYonder lol oh ok cool. I was just curious because I know a few people who couldn't get in because of that. like your videos tho and keep posting up. Im in the processing of joining the Air Force.
Hi, I Have a question and maybe you can make this into a video! Did you sign a 6-year contract or a 4-year contract? What are the benefit's of signing a 6-year contract is it worth it ?! Also, do you plan on staying long term with the air force or not!
Wyatt F not to get too political but I read today the Congress may try some budget slight of hand in Match 2017 to increase funding for BAH and other DOD requirements, but that nothing is guaranteed yet. Probably Wild Blue is at the very bottom of their priorities, with all those F-35s to purchase.
Do you get to move in with your partner if you're engaged is it the same as being married? Or do you have to stay on base because you're not married yet?
WildBlueYonder I actually have a few questions the only reason why is because my boyfriend is in the Air Force well he's at BMT right now but this is all new to me. I don't know all that goes into this. I've came across your videos and it gives me some information but I have a few more questions.
If you live off base and let's say you only rent a room and bathroom,,,but you have no kitchen privileges , can you still go back to the base cafeteria and eat your meals?
Technically you can, but you will have to pay for the DFAC. Which is still pretty cheap usually. But you will not be able to go there and eat for free.
16Byte GPA doesn't begin to describe what you need.. you're gonna need good act or sat scores, ECs and u need a very strong GPA a Congress thing and a few other things
