You have no idea how much this video helped me with my chronical depression. I started my yoga journey a few months ago and noticed a really strong improvement; my doctor has lowered my medication levels and I feel incredibly strong. Yoga has helped me stay on a calm state of mind and let the storm pass over me without making me anxious. I love your Yogi's life series, they keep me so motivated to do the practice. I find myself going back to it over and over again. It makes me feel so full of life I could be practicing for hours :D I'm glad I found you, Kino. I seriously think this is the path I want to follow for the rest of my life. I still have a long way to go but I finally think I'm going on the right direction. Your seriously changed my life. Namaste :)

Well said Kino, as a psychologist I think you hit on something so important, accepting your emotions, facing your emotions, and understanding your emotions. The key is to understand one thing, emotion is information for you to evaluate. The emotions are telling you that you do or do not like what is going on through a physical sensation. Remembering that there are two channels of information we evaluate, thought and emotion, emotions are irrational potentially valid information about something while thoughts are rational potentially valid information about something. Both are valuable in making decisions, both in the practice of Yoga and in the practice of life. Namaste Kino.

I have encountered tears during meditation not knowing where they came from. I was so deep into my meditation that I believe I triggered my subconscious, allowing emotions I held in out of pride flow throughout my body. I didn't feed the emotion in anyway, I stopped to wonder for a minute as to why I had tears, but quickly went back into a meditation state. I must say I felt free, relaxed, and calm throughout my whole body and mind. It was like I accepted everything that was going on, but within my self, without thinking about it. It is quite a remarkable feeling. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us all, Namaste.

Besides the yoga practice, I've really neglected the yogi way of thinking lately and been feeling quite sad. I'm really thankful for this video, observing your feelings rather than fighting them is so much more helpful. Thank you for reminding me :-)

That is such a beautiful, positive message! I actually feel that when I relax and let my emotions run and naturally express themselves then I am able to truly appreciate my practice and all of the benefits it brings to my life. I think we must stop focusing so much on the exterior and instead bring our attention to how we are in that moment and respect our body's own pace for learning and growing. It is not the end goal that counts but the journey that gets us there.

Hi Kino! Thank you so much for sharing part of your wonderful journey with us. Everything you say means a lot to me and you're such an inspiration. Yoga is helping me overcome most of my fears and I'm gradually discovering my deeper self. Practicing yoga, ballet and contemporary dance makes me feel so complete! My yoga journey started the day I watched one of your videos last year: you've been inspiring me from the very first day and my boyfriend, who is a Kung fu master, has started yoga too! Thanks again ❤️

Kino I really love these Living the Yogi's life videos of yours. I am faced with some stressful situations myself, you know, waiting for some scholarship results which if positive will enable me to do a PhD and it has been very intense the last few weeks. Your videos really help me take a step back and see things differently, more calmly. You are really great at triggering this sort of desire in me to look for that deep, tranquil place inside me which I believe I am slowly rediscovering. I am so grateful for your videos. Could you please address in some other video of yours how to deal with wanting to be and to do so many things but you know that in doing this you will lead a life drastically different that what you are expected to lead? I am ever thankful to you and your light.

Love the couch and everything about this(: Can you talk about dealing with losing a friendship/relationship with someone you have a deep connection with? Because love and human connections are some of the most important things to me, I have a very hard time when I lose those connections because the other person doesn't make those that as high of a priority as I do. I really really struggle with this because truly deep connections do not come easily to me, and losing them absolutely crushes me. I'm working so hard on this but I could really use some help! Thanks Kino! I love these videos!

Interesting As I am learning Japanese language and was getting frustrated that I was not picking it up fast enough. And I said to myself “It will sink in just keep at it” Martial arts are just like Yoga it takes time and it is the plodders the ones who just keep at it who get good but no one gets good over night. Thank you Kino I have heard of emotions being locked in the body before but you explained it better than anyone I know.

I'm not sure how expansive your knowledge is on this particular subject, Kino, but could you talk about proportions? Everyone's body is different, but i find that no one EVER talks about how body proportions play into the practice. For example, I recently heard from a yoga instructor that forward bends can be accessed easier by people with longer torsos and shorter limbs, while people with longer limbs and shorter torsos may find poses that require reaching the foot from behind easier. I don't mean to infer that some people have it easier, but i thought that this subject could be an interesting segway into the fact that everyone's bodies are different and the practice is its own journey for each individual person :) I'm very interested to hear your opinion on this topic, Kino!!! Love your videos and loved reading your memoir!!! :)

Hi Kino, very nice video :) what to do when one does not have a teacher or an ashtanga community around ? I've learned the primary series from a good teacher and from Laruga, Sofia, David R, David G, Tim, you and many other posting on internet, but it's been almost a year I practice alone, without guidance. I'm actually studying and can't move from my city. I miss the student-teacher relationship and a shala, where one feels supported by other people practicing and I clearly see a lack of devotion in my practice.... I know you where also practicing on your own in your garage for maybe 8-9 months a year ;-) , have you ever felt a down because of what I just explained ? How have you dealt with it? Thanks for reading :)

@HilaryKate
@HilaryKate 9 лет назад
I follow you on instagram and participate in most of your monthly challenges. But I don't take yoga classes - I've tried a couple in the past and they didn't seem to be for me. I want to be able to find a way to work on the strength building and flexibility training that yoga offers, without making my practice about something spiritual. I don't consider myself to be a spiritual person, although being calm and learning to train my mind to relax in the way you describe in this video is something I do want to do (but I don't think that has to equate to "spirituality"). I'm also a physician and so one thing that really bothered me in the yoga classes I did take was when the instructor would discuss physiology that is actually not scientifically correct. Do you have any tips as to how I can get around these issues?
@KinoYoga
@KinoYoga 9 лет назад
***** Find a qualified teacher who has good training in anatomy. The goal of yoga is to calm and still the mind so if when you work on the postures on your own keep the equanimous mind as your primary objective. And keep practicing!

I have been through all that in my practice. Sometimes it was very difficult, I still have area's in my body, that hide negative emotions, and for me it is taking years to discover all that and accept how it is. But it is only through Ashtanga that I understand how to accept. Yoga is a gift for a lifetime. Thank you Kino for sharing your knowledge:-)
