tricksters theme in the ptb was way better, in the live version, they cut a entire part of the song at the end, and that is the most dissapointing thing to me.
I think a cool idea for Huntress chase music would be to make it reference the lullaby, but make it a menacing orchestral thing. Similarly, maybe make Plague’s feel ceremonial and sickly if that makes sense
Nemesis, Ghostface and Wesker have some of my favorite tracks ever for the lobby music. Especially Nemesis and Ghostface. Nemmy just sounds MASSIVE with his orchestral track, I love it!
I can 100% respect that. They are so well done. You're spot on that Nemesis' music is massive, capturing his character quite well. Same with his chase music too!
Pinhead’s lobby music sounds straight from the film, it’s so amazing. Like if you told me that was part of Christopher Young’s soundtrack in the original movie, I’d believe it. Just listen to the theme from the original movie. It incorporates all the elements of that original theme and parts of Resurrection.
Thanks for letting me know! I haven't seen the movies myself so I wasn't sure. I figured that would be case because of how well they did the RE characters music, it feeling faithful to the games themselves but also unique to DBD. I appreciate the insight!
Trivia about the main theme: the 4 notes that are repeated in the lobby music were taken from Mozart's last work, Requiem Mass in D Minor, also called Dies Irae, which the composer never got to finish because of his fatal illness. The motif is also used in other media to represent death or tragedy. Examples of such works include the game Hades, Final Fantasy IX, Diablo 3, and films like Groundhog Day, Alien, the Lion King, or Star Wars (episode IV if I'm not mistaken). It's almost like the musical version of a Wilhelm scream- it's everywhere if you look for it, although it's much less known.
This may now be my favorite piece of DBD trivia! I definitely did not know that before. I love how they weave that in to so many of the lobby tracks too! Thank you for sharing!
@@theARoberts Every single Killer track has that 4 note motif worked into it in some capacity. Although sometimes they augment it in place of notes that are more suited.
adding to this comment, the video Sideways did on the Sweeny Todd soundtrack has a good segment on a short history of the dies irae, as well as a few examples of it in pop culture
I'll have to go look that up then, I started playing after his release so I haven't heard the PTB version. As much as I liked the current version, if the PTB is better I definitely need to hear it. Hearing this also makes me think that the Knight's music will probably change upon release 😂😅
The 4 main DBD notes are used in EVERY killers lobby music, you've gotta listen closely for it as they change it to fit each character but it's always there
@@theARoberts I think those 4 notes are called Dies Irae, which is a common musical trope used for centuries to signify death. The phrase literally means “day of wrath”, which is a perfect way to describe DBD.
The chase music is when the killer is in their element and the music portrays that, but the lobby music is when the killers are idle or at rest waiting for their next trial to hunt so I feel like the less intense and more subdued music suits the lobby music.
That is a fair point. I'll definitely agree that there should be a difference between chase and lobby music. I think what I was trying to say in terms of intensity with regards to the lobby music has more to do with the emotive/unsettling nature of it than it feeling like chase music. Both Doctor and Sadako, for instance, have subdued lobby music compared to their chase music, but I would still describe their lobby music as pretty intense or foreboding
As a long-time Silent Hill fan I love that Pyramid Head's theme incorporates the Silent Hill leitmotif (that melody at 21:13). It originally appears in the main theme of the first game and almost every Silent Hill soundtrack composed by Akira Yamaoka since then has included it in one song. It's not a prominent recurring theme that sticks with you, it's usually used as a brief background melody or part of a guitar solo and takes up 30 seconds max in each song. If you're not really paying attention or listening to all the soundtracks over and over again you might not even realize it keeps popping up. It's such a great touch to have the Silent Hill remix of the DBD theme include it too.
I agree 100%. I actually have not played the original games myself (except the Room), but from what others have told me, it's really cool that they got the original composer to score his theme for DBD. So very well done. I love what they've done with the RE characters too. Really cool how they can make them unique to DBD but retain faithfulness to the source material.
If I am not mistaken, Doctor's remix of the default theme is intended to simulate the sounds of musical tesla coils, where electricity is passed through a coil at varying frequencies to create music.
In music, there is a name for what you call "reference to the default theme", it's called a "leitmotif". It's usually a set of notes that are significative of something/someone. DBD has one of only 4 notes and it's pretty iconic, that's why you're able to recognize it so often. Michel F. April is really good at using it for every theme.
Thank you for that context. I feel like I should have known that having grown up as a musician, but I was primarily a drummer, so I'll use that as my excuse 😅
lol it definitely will. Then I'll just have to redo all these videos! But my hope is that they'll give everyone their own unique music and then give Trapper the default as just his music.
The ghost face music reminds me of the scene in the first scream movie where Randy is watching “Stab” and is shouting “look behind you” while scream is legit behind him. The tenseness of that scene I feel also I his music
He's actually watching Halloween, the Stab movies weren't out yet as they were based off Gale Weather's books on the murders that took place in the first movie
I really like that Blight has such a tragic sounding soundtrack. I need to read up on his lore, but he just looks like a tragic creature, so it really fits
the pinhead music actually does sound quite similar to the score of the film with the haunting church like vocals in the back! i don't think it's the best but it's definitely very fitting for him
Out of all the killers missing a lobby track I'd most like to hear one for the Shape. It would be cool to hear the DBD theme in style of "Laurie's Theme". The Halloween soundtrack has such a cool and recognizable sound. At least he has the iconic chase music.
That would be awesome! I just learned too that the Halloween theme that plays for a second when selecting him isn't actually tied to his lobby music either. So his lobby music is technically just the default theme, which is sad.
@@dredgenwar2375 I was cautiously hopeful that they might give her something when the Saw tome came out, but no such luck. Still, based on the fact that the copyright holders were cool with them doing a Saw tome in the first place, I'd say she's the most likely candidate for getting her own music. Wouldn't hold my breath for Freddy... sigh.
When I hear Huntress' lobby music I imagine its her stalking into a town, cause I hear almost like sirens going off in the background. And the "haunting" sound is just the townspeople realizing there is no escaping from her
We're so close to all killers having unique music now... Nurse got her own in the ptb so we're just missing: Huntress - Chase Pig - Lobby + Chase Bubba - Lobby + Chase Freddy - Lobby + Chase Plague - Chase Not saying Wraith or Trapper as they're part of the original 3, they should keep the default.
We are so close indeed. I feel like of the 3 defaults they should give 1 to Trapper and 1 to Wraith (and honestly the other should have gone to Nurse IMO)
@@wodociagikieleckie5435 that's fair. Although also highly unlikely as the only chance for Wraith to get his own music is if he gets reworked, which is unlikely as he hasn't been touched for ages. Also idk what they'd even give him, I guess mostly bells and mechanical or car noises?
Dude what, caught me off guard when you said only 2k subs, I’ve been binging your videos ever since I found you a few days ago and I hope you get the recognition you deserve!! Good luck getting to 3k!!!
One thing i love about the Pyramid head music is the slight recall to the "Theme of Laura" from Silent hill 2, wich is kinda the theme of the game, i think is the most well done of the lobby musics. And the vibe the music pass is the same the games have, i just adore it.
the reason why billy has music and the other 3 orginals don’t is because billy was reworked recently enough for them to change it. wraith has had changes but not enough to constitute new music apparently
Ah yes, thank you for clearing that up for me. I figured it must be something like that. I did not realize that Wraith's was at all different, I'll have to go back and listen to that. Thanks for letting me know!
idk why but the thing that hypes me the most about vecna being a killer in DBD is what will his music sound like, bet that damn grandfather clock will kick in
Also I'd argue Legion should be higher (a bit of bias given I main them) because their lobby theme is made up purely of the instruments of their mixtape addons: Julie's Bass, Susie's Guitar, Joey's Bass (I think), Frank's Drums. It's as if the members of the Legion are playing themselves in, and the one time they're all unified together.
Hope, if you ever get around to doing this list again, you also add in the Baba Yaga and Armored Titan/War Hammer Titan skins, as both Baba Yaga and the Titans have their own lobby themes. Baba Yaga has the Modern Tales menu theme and the Titans have a sped up version of the Attack on Titan menu theme, with the latter being my favorite song ever made form this game.
I'm definitely planning to update them in the future. That said, are the AoT skins still available? I don't own them and I thought they were no longer in the shop, so I wouldn't be able to do those unfortunately unless I'm wrong on that. That's the tricky part about the Legendary skins.
@@theARoberts They're still available, as are the rest of the AoT skins. If you need somewhere to listen to them in high quality, check DBDLeaks' RU-vid channel.
I love the doctor’s so much. The killer in general, the insanity is just amazing to me and thats why he’s my favorite but I get scared easily and i gotta mute the music often because it scares me haha. His laughing also terrifies me and i love playing him but i get a heart attack going against him
I have to say, Wesker, Trickster, and Legion all have my favorite because of how well they fit. The orchestral feel of Wesker’s shows off how much of a refined and classy villain he is (I know some people don’t think he fits into the game aesthetic-wise, but I would like to politely disagree), Trickster’s heavy electronic influence since he’s supposed to be a psychotic pop idol really drives the point home; and I absolutely love the metal/rock ballad theme of Legion’s because of the rebellious and menacing feel to it. Overall, I’m thoroughly impressed with how well the composers did for this game.
As a Trickster main, thank you so much for giving Trickster's lobby music some love. I actually love his and I am always vibing to it, yet everyone ranking these put him quite low. Thanks for the S-tier ranking :D
loving these tier lists! i never really watch tier list vids but these ones are entertaining. Been binging a ton of these for a few days now 😅 also fun to see someone elses opinion. i disagree pretty often but your rankings for the killer lobby animations are on point 👍 your channel deserves more attention, its top quality
I'm so glad to hear you are enjoying them. It means a lot to know that you like mine even though you don't typically enjoy tier lists. I love hearing others' opinions as well, one of the reasons I love to do these. So disagree away 😁 Thanks so much for your kind words!
Huntress got her own lobby music on "Cold wasteland survivor" outfit and her "Hooked on You" outfit. But if you are only ranking the base music then it's all good!
Man Doctor and Oni SLAPS HARD,i actually get upset when I'm chilling listening to their lobby music and find a match. In spirit case i think her lobby music is more about sadness and after life prision, the low tone of sorrow.
I recently learned too that the Halloween theme isn't even tied to his Lobby music 😅 it'll still play with the music turned off, which means it just plays overtop the default theme.
Demo is my favourite and deathslinger its pretty good. Demo sounds so mysterious creepy and 80´s that i like it. And Deathslinger sounds like creepy and that you know you shouldn´t mess with him
I absolutely love doctors, the high pitched sound in the back which sounds almost like a heart monitor or an ambulance siren is so imposing and creepy, the whole thing is an S to me
I almost like Nurse's new chase music 😅 there's something weird about it that I have trouble identifying but ultimately don't really enjoy. I also don't think it fits her character. Lobby music is great though. Attack on Titan lobby music is pretty great, rockin! Huntress' Baba Yaga music is eerie and unsettling, which is perfect. A little subdued but might not be a bad thing. What do you think of each of them?
@@theARoberts I agree in Nurse's doesn't fit but is good, Baba Yaga is too boring for me, and Attack on Titan is probably my favorite besides Wesker, Nemesis and Demogorgon's.
@@joiningbread8550 Thanks for pointing that out too, I learned this just yesterday as I was shooting another video with the music turned off and her scratches were still there 😅😱
I will say it would be cool to see you incorporate some more of the special variations and outfits into these. But I do find these videos really good and relaxing sometimes and while I don't agree with them all the time obviously since we all got different opinions and rankings and such, I do still enjoy them and can agree even if I disagree sometimes.
I appreciate you respectfully voicing disagreement. That's why I love doing these, we're not all going to enjoy the same things equally, so I love hearing from others on what they like differently from me. I get the desire to have me include the Legendaries, I do on some, but I also don't own most of them which makes keeping it fair to all characters either really expensive or not possible.
awesome video!! but the discord link says it’s invalid :( maybe a survivor or killer idle animation tier list? like if you just sit in the lobby and let the character do their thing
Thanks for pointing that out! I thought I had set it to never expire, but apparently not 😅 New link below 👇 discord.gg/wY9Gd54SsQ That's a great idea! I actually was thinking about that as I did this one so I'll add it to the list!
Pyramid Head's music is so good! Oni's isn't bad either (honestly, I can't remember where I ranked him 😅) I was trying to be more critical on this one, but the music in DBD is so stellar, they've done such a great job.
@@theARoberts For Blight, his music is the definition of descending into the madness within the realm of The Entity. A man too far gone in his research and becoming the monster we now go up against. Like you said, the music is essentially Talbot Grimes becoming the Blight and I couldn’t have said it better myself. For Clown, it’s the twisted whimsicalness that makes up his theme. Not sure if you saw the Deliverance Tome Trailer of the Clown but when his theme plays over two scenes (being a kid with this imagination of being this brave hero against this big bad werewolf and the reality of his upbringing where he’s terrified of his drunk father) and it ends with him laughing through the tears as that reality seems to disappear and his imagination/fantasy takes over, it’s pretty effective. Because that’s what the Clown becomes: this unsympathetic monster who commits atrocities with the whimsicalness sprinkled here and there. (That Rift cutscene of him killing someone complete with Looney Tune-esque slapstick, a cartoony art style that occurs when a position of his fills the air, complete with a parody “That’s all Folks” title card at the end) TLDR: I agree with Luke, they’re both S-Tier lol
I disagree with your opinion on The Spirit's menu music. I think it fits her really well, it feels sad but at the same time her Yamaoka anger seeps in at times.
For the huntress. it's kinda like the crackdowns menu music. if you guys ever played crackdown on the xbox 360? i don’t know if it's on the ps but i know it is on the xbox 360. And that it what it kinda reminds me of.
Honestly doesn't sound like any Banjo I've ever heard, I'd expect a banjo to sound much more high pitched and usually they are not strum like that. Sounds more like a steel guitar or something similar to me.
I'm unfamiliar with the film's soundtrack, but I do appreciate when they try to mirror stuff like that. Given how they did a great job mirroring the RE characters for instance, I'm betting they did a good job with PH too.
@@theARoberts I actually really love the lobby music a ton! It’s super eerie and haunting and so sinister at times. It makes me feel unsettled and a little paranoid. I find it super fitting for her and I’m really glad they re-worked her music. I love the way her terror radius grows to intensity and still holds the same sort’ve structure as the lobby music. Her chase music is really cool too, definitely ramps up the intensity all the way but I personally like the Nurse’s lobby a bit more than her chase music!
They're adding them slowly but surely, so I do think all original characters will eventually have their own lobby and chase music. Licenses are unlikely because of the terms of the licensing deals unfortunately.
lol sorry, there was just something about Doctors that made it S-tier for me and while I respect Oni's, it wasn't my favorite. That said, I fully respect you feeling opposite!
Huntress' is so good, all of those you mentioned are. Oni's is solid, just not my personal favorite so I couldn't put it S, but as a track it's excellent. Doctor's is truly unsettling. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I really like the Knight lobby music, but not for him. It sounds to modern for guy from 14th century the guitar and stuff like this. Its not fitting him. But really great music
Such a shame that some of the legendary music wasn't included in this list. The Attack on Titan track (for Spirit and Oni) absolutely S L A P S ! ! - and it should be an automatic S+ tier
