I’m sure the Mammoth business owners want that snow trucked away. The city should be paying you for emergency snow removal rather than charging you to dump at the pit.
Right on man ... Tax Man is no different than the Chicago Mobsters going, confronting and bullying store and shop owners to extort fees, blackmail essentially... " You don' pay you get da' concrete overshoes .
An investment in a snow melter would take that dump completely out equation! I know your exhausted at this point but keep at it! April is right around the corner. It’s going to be a pretty amazing site when all that snow starts melting.
I hung out in the Eastern Sierra between Mammoth and Bridgeport from 1987 - 2009. I was a woman before her time running around in my Toyota truck which ended up with 425,000 miles. I frequented many of the hot springs in the area before the internet publicity ruined the experience. This is bringing back so many memories of time passed. Stay safe with all the snow and keep those puppies happy.
Aint that the truth. The internet ruined a lot of previously gorgeous and private places to enjoy. I dont share any of my finds now for fear it gets overrun like Mission Peak in the bay area on a Saturday morning.
@@bikesbeersbeats Ditto - used to be able to get away fairly easily but now all the dumbass "overlanders" with too much money and no f's given are everywhere.
Sir, you and your merry band of men will continue to do an outstanding job for your customers. You can only do with what you available to you. If other people are being selfish and petty well that's on them. Keep fighting the good fight.
I grew up in a small town and the biases if you're not part of the IN crowd. It's like people never left high school... You guys work hard in freezing cold. I'm an ol' farmer/mechanic that had to keep his equipment running. I understand what you're going through... thank gawd for DOGS!
I hope state or federal sends more help your way. If this next snow is heavy, it'll be a huge problem on top on this already. Good luck, hope things work out for the better soon.
There is no worst thing from those above that they can say other than "you figure it out" because that shows a lack of support on thier part for you. Y'all are in my prayers
Wow, seems never ending, I love snow but thats insane. Thanks for taking us along on your journey. Think I had a total of 3 inches where I live this winter.
Amazing and beautiful scenery.. You have many challenges with solutions.. I watch you dig out clients, your equipment, repair challenges... 'I can see your equipment pole barn / shop / office headquarters built soon. Keep the faith, 'Blessings to you!
I lived in Mammoth for over five years and know how tough the snow removal business can be. We saw a drought that ran into February in the early Nineties. It caused a lot of small businesses to tank and private contractors such as yourself lost their rigs to repossession. The restaurants opened soup kitchens to feed those that stayed and prayed, but I left and that was my last tour in Mammoth. Sending good thoughts your way. I hope they’re wrong about this weekend.
I love this channel ❄️helps me to see all you do Best Dogs ever 😁and weather updates 👍How hard you all work 😅I’m praying favor so everyone is working together for the common good. These are real issues in safety with this snow removal 😇Thankyou guys 😊Also may want to mark the spot over the top of your equipment 👍
Weather does not look promising. I checked with NWS in Reno and Fresno, what I've been able to extrapolate between the two is heavy rain up to about 8,000 elevation which will cause severe flooding along the west slopes of the Sierra where the snowpack between 2,000 and 5,000 ft will be melted down by all the heavy rain. The forecast above 8,000 ft is 4-6 FEET of snow through this weekend; the velocity of the jet streak is supposed to produce winds along the ridges of 75-120 mph -- stronger toward Tahoe Basin, but because Mammoth Mtn sits in that gap in the Sierra between Fresno and the crest, the summit could potentially be on the high side of those wind speeds. Gonna be ugly the next few days starting Thursday.
Thank you for the videos. Great work. I appreciate seeing the snow that you have to move. I live in Pollock Pines and we have been getting dumped on here but nothing compared to what you have been getting. Please keep up the channel this is hands down my favorite channel on RU-vid.
Im questioning why it's not open during the daytime, 6 days a week? The folks pay taxes and businesses on the revenues they generate. It behooves those in charge or the city council to step up to the plate and right the wrongs of mismanagement with the primary objective of improving and making things better to be a solution and not a problem maker
@@jimgarskii Read it and it's clear the company running the pit played games because they don't know him. Guess what most people you do business with in construction you don't personally know. You run their credit and if they don't pay you then you cut them off thinking you're getting a check weekly is laughable since a lot of these companies don't pay sub contractors for 30 days!
Dang for the small minds and egos....Who is the pit contractor? When I contracted with FS I had to link up with the Fed congressperson to solve an issue that was preventing forward solution to create teamwork...This is beyond Fed influence, however how about the county supervisors,State Congress person and State Senator, especially given the state of emergence status.....Also your client influence and Postmaster may be of help...Communication communication and more communication....The statement given to you about it being your problem, was right out of the mouth of a 5th grader...rude and arrogant....Strange people...Carry on Back to goodness however....this clip was great Roof folks, loader material, doggos and that great eatery you frequent....Complete grand clip in drop dead country Thank you!!
I don't know enough about the breakdown in notification about the pit but you seem an honest, straight-forward person. If there are shenanigans afoot who ever is behind it should be very ashamed of themselves. There is a thing called the common good. Be good people.
People who make those decisions have no shame. I question whether they understand right, wrong or the Eastern philosophy of Shame being brought upon their personal family and businesses. If they truly cared about the well-being of all of the people of the community, none of this would be happening
@@billvandorn5332 yeah I need to look for a good civil attorney. My attorney deals in construction, so he’s not really specialized with this type of thing.
What an undertaking,..you guys are amazing...and more snow to come.! A very sad commentary on city/government 's management abilities from where you are experiencing it all the way to the 'top'. Thank you for your work ethic and concern. Great video...and cute dogs. Mendocino Co., CA.
The fact that you stay so calm when talking about the “pit” and the city officials is commendable! I’d be swearing, threatening and breaking shit, but I know you have to keep it together in hopes of some changes quickly. One would like to think in times like these, everyone would work together for the betterment of the community and the safety of all, but greed and money seem to always win. Living on the Gulf Coast of Florida, we see the same after hurricanes, where the community comes together to help their neighbors but selfishness and greed always play a role. Wish you continued success and keep up the great work. I know if I lived there, I’d hire your company in a heartbeat!
Sending good vibes to you and your crew hope 🙏 all works out for you! You'd think that it was for the good of all to work together to get through these unprecedented weather conditions.
I am hooked on your videos watching from the desert in St. George. I miss the mountains so much and these videos make my heart happy ❤ prayers with you on this upcoming storm
I admire you on how you are handling the snow pit situation. It makes no sense to put yourself out to get trucks up while paying traveling time for just one day of service. Hopefully the locals speak up for what is happening, it would be nice to see some lawsuits filed against the town officials for blocking/ or lack of response to requests for help.
It looks like all your accounts need to help put pressure on the city council to help get things done. Also maybe you can find a land owner and open up a new pit of your own. Or maybe with the addition of a new loader you might want to get a snow melter and completely bypass the city and the other contractors. Get one big enough to be towed behind a 3 axle dump truck to really melt some snow. Or a couple of smaller units that can be towed behind a 1 ton. So you can use the skid steers and clean up multiple accounts at once.
Thanks for a day in the life tour , Best of hope forward is all i can nicely say , the world is a trip to get anything done in a timely manner , peace an blessings craig
Will it be a few more feet of snow or a deluge of rain? This weekends storm is coming from the tropics bringing a lot of warm air with it and some models are showing the snow level rising as high as 9,500 feet. However the models often overestimate how quickly the cold air gets scoured out so its possible the cold air could hang on long enough for a big wet snowfall. Either way its going to be a mess heavy wet snow on top of cold dry snow will create extreme avalanche danger and greatly increase the load on roofs. If it rains alot the streets could turn into canals and basements could flood.
In the Great Lakes region, we don't look forward to 6 to 8 inches b/c now we have to get the salt off of our cars. I can't even IMAGINE having to do an "archeological" dig to get to my car in the first place! Wow, I wonder if this will be the norm for that region from now on?
I’ve been in the landscaping and snow removal business for over twenty years. Started with just plow trucks and skid steers and got into operating loaders. We’ve had a couple Cat loaders (908 and 924). They were very fuel hungry compared with our Volvo loaders (L60 and L70). They are so smooth running engines and quiet too. The one thing that I loved about the Cat loaders is the forward/reverse switch is right on the loader joystick controller. I’m surprised that you don’t use any snowpushers on your loaders. We’ve had the snow pushers that are chained to the front cutting edge of the bucket. Then we got snowpushers that mount to the hydraulic quick attachment. Much better for back blading. Only downside is if you have to move snow or use the bucket to scrape ice/hard packed snow off the pavement, can’t easily unchain the pusher. I haven’t had it become an issue frequently, and most of our accounts are within 5 miles and easily go back to change to bucket when the need arises. One of the best things about our Volvo loaders was the boom suspension that allows the front arm to float. Really makes the machine ride so much better and doesn’t bounce around like a standard rigid boom arm.
no trucking, puts your clients in a tough spot. If you have no more room for snow, what do your clients do? I bet they are tempted to go to other crews who do get the 'inside' scoop on when the pit is open. Seems very dubious and sketchy. Also the roofs look horrid? Do most homeowners just chance it and not get them removed?
Man! Whos coffee did you piss in? They are straight up giving you guys the cold shoulder. Thats a shame when that bullshit happens. Todd the retired trucker.
21:56 This "arrangement" sounds more reminiscent of South Carolina than Mammoth Lakes. The Golden Rule -- the one with the gold rules. And it's not fair to you or the people who contracted with you. Load o' crap.
With all the snow you got in your area, I was surprised that snow hadn’t regularly been hauled out to the pit. Doesn’t make much sense. The commendable thing thru all this is that no matter what, your crew was there everyday for work as well as the crews at The Warming Hut and the grocery store. Awesome employees that show up no matter what.
Local politics are the worst (er maybe not). But yeah, small town politics can be ruthless insider games. I know it first hand. Not much you can do but wait it out because for sure things do change as different factions take power.
Do not let your right hand know what your left hand is doing In other words, keep whatever you and your Establishment is doing close to your heart no one needs to know it is your business only.
Good luck hope it won’t be more than you can handle was looking at the 15 days for mammoth mountain doesn’t look like any above freezing to much and almost constant snow chances.
As soon as you mentioned disagreements in the past I'm sure you know why you didn't get a text. Local officials better understand that people are beginning to get their voice back and I'm sure there's some kickback money that'll be mentioned when they're voted out. Good luck 💪✌️
Man thats a lot of snow.. generally snow load is 1 lb per inch of depth (SF) . 60" depth = 60 #/SF. .. throw in the rain coming and it could easily double.. looks like there's 10-12 ft on some of those roofs.. crazy
Your right we all need to call the state of Cali. Gov. office and Pres. office snow removal funding was alotted for what you are doing. I'm going to contact them who is the State Rep for Mammoth Lakes area never mind the news stations know they will broadcast it all good or bad. Keep up the good work If God is for you who can be against you. At 78yrs old to see what you guys have to put up with is upsetting. I have to go in my prayer closet 1:23am wed here in the high desert. May God Bless you and the family and all your worker's.
You've got me trying to bite into my phone at The Warming Hut... The cat's the only one around and without that evolutionary opposing thumb I'm still safe from the guys in white coats... She does, on occasion ask me to dial up her friends at ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention and Cruelty to Animals). She knows her name and shows it well, and so is most cautious to tread lightly about me with those soft paws and 10" claws (actually a full 1/2" apiece but added together, hey ! ).... So all that said, her name is " Soup Stock". Yup, that's for real.
I think ur doing a great job, I started watching ur channel cause I'm want to plan a trip up there soon. Also the council members need straight some stuff out because the citizens are gonna be pissed off. Also I stay near long beach. 🤙
The funny thing is hardly anybody shows up to the city Council meetings. I plan on being a lot more active because they are doing a lot of things and nobody is watching.
I did not realize that the doggo's were up ON TOP of all of that snow until BUD went down that slope or ramp. Jeesssus. And they are fearless climbing up on all of those! What is that, like 10 or 12 feet?
From Minnesota our thoughts and prayers are with you. This is totally amazing to watch what you go thru daily. How much total snow do you have as of March 10? And now huge rains? Are you going evac?
I remember in Tahoe- I think 94-95 there was lots of snow already and a wet rainy storm came and the flooding was insane ! The water came all the way up past the fire station in Tahoe City. Very important to be ready for out of control water everywhere if this storm rains but also melts and washed away stuff and could very possibly wreak havoc on mammoth and Tahoe.
Isn't there a way to uses lightweight battery powered snowblower on the roofs? I'm also compelled to ask if is my free cable or rope could be used to slice the overpack on the roofs? The biggest concern might be vent pipes? I'm wondering why you don't use the roof rakes which have the sheets for the snow to travel along as compared to just the roof rake with the paddle on it? Some of those buildings seem to Warrant the need for a really decent lift bucket which might make things easier and safer as well
3 more feet of snow would be outrageous and never seen on east coast. We cant even imagine such snowfall and lived in Maine 3 yrs. Amazing workers. 5 stars.
Buffalo,NY was hammered by around 80” of snow earlier this winter. I do know that they’re kind of an anomaly for the amount of snow they get compared to other places on the east coast. West wind off Lake Erie is relentless for lake effect snow. A few miles Outside of that main lake effect snow band places only get a foot of snow and sometimes even less.
Lots of snow… good work! Scoop shovels are the ticket. Have you ever tried one of the powered shovels for roofs, I think toro makes one. Or, attaching a hydraulic ram to a portable pump with two large panels on it that would push the snow over the edge?
Bro, take some metal barrels, fill them with wood and cardboard, little gas, stick it by those huge snow piles and light it. It'll start to melt the snow within 10-15ft radius. Have a bobcat readjust them
Can you operate the machinery and help your man out as well as hire people from outside or accept volunteers??? I know many people would want to help but don't have the machinery
Put height markers on the trees . The Original minute men also built snow walls with well fitted stones, Out at the very edge of the then dirt roads. This would keep the drifts in place somewhat and create a push line for the plows... The stones had been there for two hundred years when i lived there then. Along the minuteman trail.
1:43 and 6:40 The amount that area drifted in is crazy. It was all cleaned out. Whoever was on the sled, probably less PSI than a guy on foot. Especially with the snow packed and set up.
Whats the code for roof slope their? Cause it should be like a 12/12 pitch minimum. I mean here its 10/12 pitch and we don't get near the amount you guys do
The roof loads are designed for anywhere from 200 to 300 psf and that will dictate the slope in some cases. The more pitch the roof has the less psf believe it or not there are flat roofs up here, but they are designed with steel and can withstand a lot of weight
I'm sure the larger contractors will see to it that they can't. This is the kind of stuff that causes one to question the existence of a possibly incestuous relationship between the bigger outfits and city council members.
