Yup. Shiv comes off as a complete brat in this episode and Roman is just a little bitch who would listen to his dad if he was 20 years into Alzheimer’s
It is completely natural to compete for a parent's approval or affection. Because if you can't get it there, then where? And that's why all the kids' subsequent relationships are doomed from the start. Unfortunately, this father is an iceberg.
I didn't even notice this incredible bit of acting from Jeremy at 1:40. He steels himself and puts on a fake deep/assertive voice to say "Yeah." only for his tone to drop back to normal when he realizes it's Jess and she tells him the news. He goes from false bravado to nervous/flustered in a flash, and it's all captured in his voice and facial tics. It's as if Kendall's entire emotional arc this season were bottled into one fleeting moment.
I’m 75% sure this is a nod to The Godfather. His pose was almost identical to Michael Corleone’s at the end of Part II and the trumpet fanfare theme playing in the background being eerily similar to The Godfather’s main theme seems too deliberate to me.
Any success by any one of his kids is a failure in his eyes if he didn’t orchestrate it. The smartest thing they could do at this point is sell their shares like Kendal planned, take the cash and run. Stay as far away from him as possible, forever. It’s crazy to me that none of them has decided he’s not worth it. Let him bask in his supposed greatness alone.
That's the thing with family though. It's hard to abandon them, especially when you love them, which all the roys do in their own warped and toxic way. I also think that at this point logan has conditioned them so deeply to believe his approval=their happiness, that they can't free themselves from that devils circle. You also have to keep in mind that they all have at least one personality-disorder on top of traumas and deep character flaws, and have no incentive to actually confront their issues in a way that would help them become decent people and break free from this madness.

And believe it or not, not having you clamoring for their love and affection will get under their skin more than anything you can actually say.
they all have daddy issues and Logan knows that and uses it against them in every turn. leaving is just not a thought that comes easily without an outside force's help
You think they care about money? They have no concept of what not having unimaginable wealth is. Being part of the company/family is everything they care for as this will add to their empty life some purpose, besides closeness to Logan.
Logan can't stand any of his kids being independent, he sees it as them wresting control of the company from him. So even though Shiv practically saved the company he feels it necessary to knock her down. Then of course to manipulate the whole sibling dynamic by cozying up to Roman afterwards. He'll keep playing them over and over in whatever way keeps him on top, no matter who gets burned in the process
They are all the same, all 4 of them. They all try to play each other but Logan has the biggest advantage over them by being their father. He raised them, he knows how to control them to act like he wants them to.
@@mandolen3317 do you think that Connor has the same daddy issues as the other 3? I kind of always got the impression that while he does want logans approval, he isn't willing to destroy himself over it the way the other three are. Also the way he's been threatening to come out and publicly go after logan if he isn't given a position within the company in the last two episodes, kinda makes me wonder about his relationship with logan. We know that connor's mom had mental-health issues and that logan abandoned her, which could be the reason why he holds a stronger resentment against him than his siblings.
Logan keeps dangling the idea of them succeeding him in front of them to keep them in line and loyal to him, but it's clear he has no actual interest in teaching any of them how to do what he does, which is why they're all so incredibly bad at this job but keep gunning for it. His own hubris left his team with a huge problem and no system in place to solve it in his absence because he's so afraid of losing even a smidgeon of power that he'll sabotage the future of the whole company. When Shiv is forced to make a choice in his absence, he resents her for it, but also refuses to say how he'd have done any better. When she tries to leverage that moment for more power for herself within the company, he looks disgusted at her for the exact sort of shrewd corporate maneuvering that he built his career on.
The recurring theme seems to be what Kendall hit on last season: Logan envies his own children for the life HE gave them. He fought from nothing to build his empire, and anyone who isn't equally self made isn't worth his time. His children can never meet his expectations because they grew up wealthy, and in his mind only someone who comes from nothing can truly appreciate having everything.
It pissed me off so much that Logan just dismissed everything Shiv did to literally save the company because he wouldn't have done that, but when asked what he would have done he literally can't give an answer. Sure Shiv should probably know to expect less from him by now, but considering how truly, incredibly fucked they were and how Shiv saved them in the only way which still kept their family in control, you'd think he would be even the slightest bit appreciative.
It’s similar to when Kendall saved the company by having Stewy bail them out, Logan got really mad because he himself would have done it a different way.
@SillyFrenchKing At the saves by Kendall and Shiv, they both brought in the Sandys (Father and daughter). Logan detested the Sandy, Father. Kendall and Shiv gave each a place on the board and Kendall also secured a seat for Stewy and Shiv for herself also. Although they saved the company, Logan now had to deal with both Sandys because was unable to secure any deals on his own.
It's very interesting how well shiv and kendall can work together when they try. This is the second time (first time being season 2 episode 9) that their joint effort saved logan's and waystars asses. I really hope that roman being a weasel and logan being an asshole will finally push shiv into teaming up with kendall, even if it's only temporary to take control over waystar.
@@rishabhaniket1952 not only her confidence but also her political connections to left-wing politicians and public image could be unbelievably useful to take logan down. People seem to forget that in the public eye, shiv is the "good" roy with no scandals seemingly different political and social views than her family, while kendall is seen as a fuck up and a junkie, eventhough we as an audience know that this isn't entirely true. But for them to team up, kendall would have to give shiv the CEO position. The only reason she is on logans side right now is because she thinks she has a better shot at becoming CEO on his team, if kendall had made her a good offer, I believe she would've switched sides. She's not team logan the way roman is, she is first and foremost team shiv.
@@user-lr2iy7mc7w I think Kendall works better as a bishop or a ✋ of the king so to speak, he was at his most efficient during the Pierce negotiations and gutting of Vaulter when he was his dad's right hand man.
I don't really see how Kendall contributed in a way than none of the other characters could accomplish? He got them in the room, but surely they would have met with them anyway since the vote would have screwed both of them. This felt all down to Shiv and Gerri to me. Kendall just shows up, screams at people, accomplishes nothing, and leaves.
@@looney1023 I get your point and agree, but I found that moment of kendall calling shiv and basically telling her to nail the deal a very interesting detail about their relationship. Despite all the animosity between them I do think they view each other as the most competent siblings (which I agree with) and are capable of working together and listening to each other when their goals align. I don't think it's a coincidence that roman (and connor) has been completely useless everytime the company had to be saved and showed absolutely zero crisis-management ability.
Yes - reminded me of Pacino in Godfather and that's probably who Ken was channeling for confidence. Unfortunately, Ken will never take over the family business.
@@cicranelnaz Ken has created a situation where it will be difficult for any of the kids to take over (plus, they're all incompetent). But it will be interesting to see how it actually plays out.

Shiv was the MVP of this episode, she didn't at all deserve the way Logan treated her. At some point she's gonna have to wise up and get the fuck out of the company.
Logan has to do this because if he does not play his kids against one another they would team up to destroy him. He almost lost in the first season when they did the vote of no confidence but he was able to stop Roman from voting him out. The sad thing is that besides maybe Roman none of his children are truly loyal to him and would betray him if they could get to rule the company.
wasn't she actually asking for it? She knew the deal she sold served her purpose more than the company's. Logan knew it too. He was discussing a battle plan with someone who would actually put the company first and Shiv was being her annoying self begging for appreciation.
@@poojasengupta8631 When he said it was a bad deal and Shiv asked what would you have done, and he didn’t have an answer, it was the show’s way of clueing us in that he had nothing. He says he would have thought of something but he had a lot of time before the last minute to fix it and couldn’t. Now that it’s fixed he can talk about how bad it is, but he wouldn’t have fared any better, he just won’t let his pride admit it. In fact everyone BUT him has accomplished something this season, he’s contributed nothing all season.
@@Traye76 you are forgetting that Shiv wasn't exactly using her brains either while making the decision about whether to settle or to let it go to a vote. When Logan said 'F*** it' , they clearly thought he meant don't settle and acted accordingly. It was only when they realised that he was acting delusional, they started questioning the mettle of his decision. And it was a team decision to send Shiv to negotiate with Sandy again which meant caving to the demand of no private jets. That would have closed the deal in itself. But Shiv decided to butter Sandy a little in order to acquire a seat for herself. So technically even Shiv did nothing. The terms of the deal were set by Sandy and Stewy. Shiv was just the face of the agreement.Her only accomplishment was personal.

Shiv's face after he snapped at her made me laugh. This is like the millionth time you've tried to get a "good job Shiv" from your dad and he just buries you for no reason, what did you think was going to happen?
It's funny how so many people analyze these scenes from a competetive perspective... like who's gonna win and who's a loser!? etc. It's exactly that kind of mindset that this show is trying to show you the problem with, lol.
I mean a lot of it is just character analysis that's wrapped up in competition because that's the whole theme and plot of the show. I do agree though, there's a reason the show ended the way it did rather than some dramatic last-minute corporate maneuver. That type of ending would undercut the show's message

You’re clearly not focusing on the show, he is the least diabolical and pathetic of them next to Connor. Shiv doesn’t know how to read the room and Kendall is a flop. They’re both so angry and spiteful to each other but Roman and Connor have their intentions on their sleeve. They were the ones who clearly refused to contribute to any slander towards Ken when Shiv wrote that horrid letter.
I felt bad for Shiv in this episode. She's the only one who actually got something done and kept the company in their hands, but still gets no respect.
She basically took the deal that Kendall arranged with Stewy and used it to solidify her own position with an extra board seat behind everyone's back. She's a snake and a total shrewd opportunist. Just like them all. Kendall and Roman are both more capable than her imo.
Actually Kendall also did a lot, he arranged the terms and pushed both Sandy/Stewy and Shiv to achieve an agreement. Also Shiv gave herself a sit on the board without Logans green light which is a big deal for him.
The fact is that when logan was mentally present, 4 board seats was too much. When he’s not involved in the negotiation they feel like they’ve lost their power and they accept a much worse deal. Shiv did get a bad deal
They were going to lose. There was literally no other move to make. None. The deal she got was the only deal to get if keeping control was the goal. They had no leverage. Sandy only made the deal to avoid the off chance of losing, but she wasn’t going to. No way. The Roy’s were toast until Shiv made that deal.
Although kendall was a clown in the episode, he was the most effective back channel and put legitimate pressure on Stewy and Sandy. He brought them back to the table. The tactic of not settling and making them sweat was working. It would’ve revealed the issues between sandy and stewey who like to present that their one and the same but internally they are not
I feel like people are being to harsh on Shiv Logan is just pissed that she closed the deal and that he didn't he's a narcissist he loves being the centre of attention and he's pissed because in his eyes she took that from him. He is actively taking life from his kids and when one succeeds they become a threat to him that's why he goes after Kendall and now Shiv.
This episode should have been titled "No Country For Old Men" because it is a war between two old men, Logan and Sandy. Sandy is recovering from a stroke and Logan has been deteriorating since episode 1 of the first season. Logan reminds me of Henry VIII. He bullies his minions and his children but for those who have equal power and status, he relies on those minions to manipulate or try to bully them. The only real power Logan has is the fear he instills in those closely associated with him. I do agree with Sandy & Stewey(Sorry, Kendall) that none of the Roy progeny should ever be CEO of the company. None of them have what it takes to objectively run a successful business. The moves they have made are to either spite their father or spite each other. They don't care what their shareholders want because their entitlement mentality is that the shareholders should just accept what they're given. Gerri is impressive but she has Stockholm Syndrome. Frank and Karl need to go as this is no country for old men. Waystar Royco possibly needs a transfusion of new blood.
Ooooh maybe Bluff King Hal's dad Henry VII, constanty looking over his shoulder to make sure Fernando in Spain or HREmperor Maximilian don't outwit him.
Shiv is just kiss-assing too much this season, reminds of Ken in season 1. But Romulus stepped the fuck up this episode, that was excellent to watch. Britell is '12/'13 LeBron on the music this season, can't wait for the whole thing to drop. But overall, I think this was the most chaotic episode of the season for me, on par if not more than the vote of no confidence episode
Yeah I think that's where they are going with this season. I think that's Ken's move, to make his sister realize she'll never have power on her own as long as she acting under her dad
I mean I get it to an extent, but can we discuss what those last two scenes were? Why put him in a room and then ghost him when he calls? Was it kind of like a last “f*ck you”, just a power move?

Roman is going to win. He actually work and doesn’t give Logan a buzzing headache like the other three. Especially that Conner, I would have thrown him out the window. Guy is an absolute pest.
People give logan's opinion too much power while watching the show. How often have we seen logan switch up his opinion on his children? Just because he seems to be the favoured child right now, doesn't mean that it's going to stay like that. What shiv did in this episode was alot smarter than roman because she secured actual power for herself, while roman only managed to get his daddys fickle approval.
i saw a lot of comments in other posts with people giving their take on who "won" but this episode was essentially another shit show at the fuck factory. Even though they made it out alive, no one won.
Lol shiv cheated on him, asked for an open relationship on their wedding day, doesn’t give a shit about throwing him jail as long as it curries favour with her father. Yeah Tom definitely isn’t the worst person to be with, it’s shiv.
