Haha. Just learned this in class today kurtis. I didnt even realize that I got that both ways. I made out good on this to. Cost me 75 in gas and got 350. Prolly cost me a lil more on thr return trip but will still make out good. So cool that I know the stuff your talking about more now. Again thanks for the help because I would have passed this offer up without you bud. Rode in the Loco yesterday and made me even more thankful I went for it. Keep up the awesome content.
@@KurtisCharlton it's really funny because Nikk. He is in my class. Awesome dude to. Also on conrail. I took the practice test yesterday morning and scored a 98% on the mixed. 184 I missed 3. Wasn't for u don't know how that would be. Thanks again. I'm gonna tell you that alot kurtis.
Hey man I have a couple questions how can I private message you also thank you so much for the videos you post I have a starting date for February 27th
I'm not sure on what to do I applied with ns got my interview done but I seen they had a conductor spot that's extremely closer and I applied for it would I have to do everything all over again
Currently in McDonough -- they automatically calculated and paid the milage reimbursement for trip down calculated from home terminal... Paid out the first Wednesday (meal stipends paid out weekly every Wednesday) of your first week. Was told that they will do the same for the trip back.
If you don’t have it within the first pay period after return ask your supervisor to help you file the claim. If you keep emailing HR they will just make you wait longer. When actual claims are put into the system they have to respond to the claim within a given amount of time. Usually the next pay period close. It’s nice that they are automatically doing it now. Have 140 people figure out mileage during our first week literally took hours 😂
@@chadurbanski3468 you enjoying it? How’s it going? When you first put your application in, how long did it take them to get back to you. I’m from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.
Love the vids. My start date was gonna be Oct 10th but i pushed it to Nov 28. What are your average checks every two weeks when you start OJT? If you dont mind me asking. Im just trying to get an idea.
Shoot me a message on FB and I can send you a screen shot of an average time sheet but the new conductor pay is actually more beneficial than it used to be. You guys get $25 and hour and a minimum of $200.00 a day and your schedule is 6 on and 2 off. So 6 days times $200(min) $2400.00 a half, so $4800 a month. That being said if you work a 12 hour shift, which you almost always will, $25x12..$300 a day. You get $200 a day or $25 an hour, which ever ends up being higher. Hope that helps
hey man, I have completed everything, and, in my profile, it says awaiting start date. been saying that since 9/22. When do you think ill start? thanks!
@@ZiGpRoProductions Some guys get it two weeks after the status changes others wait months. Depends on the needs of the terminal you applied to. Onboarding is painfully slow at all class 1 railroads
Hello everyone. I would greatly appreciate your feedback concerning this question. If you knew someone middle aged and was beginning a career with the railroad which company would you recommend CSX or NS? And why? Both terminals are in the same city so location and personal life wouldn't be affected by either company.
Leaving for training soon, any last minute advice. Is anything I should study up on or get caught up reading, like signals ( I just don’t know where to find a good study guide to signals) or should I be working out, or grabbing any last minute gear ????
How’s it going? When you first put your application in, how long did it take them to get back to you? I’m from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Put in a application for Pittsburgh.
Two weeks to get the offer. Applied in August, offer beginning of September and got a start date at the end of December for a January start in McDonough
Hey man I’m 21 just trying to get my shit together in Pittsburgh and I found one of your vids about being a train conductor and I was looking into becoming a locomotive engineer but I don’t know ppl or even the route to take to become a locomotive engineer so my question is is being a train conductor is a Valuable route in becoming a locomotive engineer or no plz and thank you
Being a train conductor is the ONLY way to become an engineer. All engineers start as conductors first and then they are promoted as their location needs new engineers. Its not possible to become an Engineer out of the gate. All of the class one rail road job boards are in my link tree on the channel page. in Pittsburgh your have NS and CSX as an option if you don't want to move
i live in texas and im heading to mcdonough next week for my training. after my training what will the plan be for me? Go back home to get my personal things or go from mcdonough to my terminal?🤔
Depends on mobility. If you can complete the tasks of mounting, riding and dismounting rail equipment safely you should be fine but you have to be honest with yourself about that reality. Doesn't matter how much money you make if you don't make it home to spend it. Best of luck!
Idk if you could show any information but say like when your working a yard or an industry how do you know which cars are on what track so you don't get mixed up or grabbed the wrong ones?
If you can make a video on it that would be great I have a start date in November and will be working out of Pittsburgh I was just curious about that so maybe you can relieve my stress on it
All train consists are printed at the beginning of your shift which include car numbers. You will also be equipped with an MTR device which will tell you what cars need to be in a train build and which out going track they need to end up on. There is a video about the MTR on my channel as well. In the yard you will also be working with Remote Control Operators and a YM to ensure all movements. In the yard you'll never be on your own. When you are doing a local you will print your wheel report and all information will be present. Chances are the engineer you are working with has that industry as a daily job that they've bid on so they will help you as well.
@@KurtisCharlton Is this paid on your pay check / pay day or is it paid before? Same with meal allowances? Thanks so all of the information you are great!
@@KurtisCharlton Thanks! I appreciate your responses. Another question if I can, are the meal allowances only when training? Or does that continue when you work as well?
There really aren't any websites for that information. I can send you a copy of the e-learning which has signals modules if you are onboarding at NS but there are 3 signal systems NS, NW and Conrail so you would need to know which set you are on before studying. if you let me know where you are hiring out of I can let you know. Once you get to training their will be practice tests in a system called question mark which will allow you to study for the entire 3 weeks in McDonough.
