Great video thanks, you're a good communicator. There is initially one thing I can't duplicate. In your track header you have a graphic representation of the drum kit which changes whenever you change kits. This is the same graphic that updates in the Drum Kit Designer window. I am running Logic Pro 10.8.1. In my track header I only get the static user selected icon, not a dynamic icon that changes with the kit. It must be a setting somewhere to make this icon dynamic - please advise. Thanks
David, this is so helpful! Thank you. I stopped recording for a while but now I’m going back and I realize how much time I wasted in the past. I never used the groove tracks previously? This seems to be the ideal way to get everything “in the pocket”. Just hitting “the follow“ button in LPX drummer really isn’t enough. Also, what if my guitar or bass audio tracks are slightly off in terms of timing? It seems like the groove tracks will fix everything and I don’t have to do endless quick swipe comping like I used to or even re-recording the parts.

On the South American continent some indigenous rhythms of this region are used such as Bambuco in 6/8, I have spent more than 2 months trying to configure this Drummer so that it follows the beat of the electroacoustic guitars and I have not been able to, I would like it if you could give some guidance in this regard dear Master, very grateful in advance for the suggestion you can give me. My drum kit doesn’t have the plug in icon to get to the pop up window. I converted it to midi but I tried changing it back to a drummer track and still it’s just at the top rather than in the plugins section where it can be clicked to open the window 8:41
I’m sorry but I’m not 100% sure what you mean. The button that is missing, was it there to start off with when you opened up Drummer in the first place?
Regarding the groove track, when I assigned the Logic drummer as the master and have my audio bass track following there’s some occasional artifacting and whooshing. Do you possibly know what that could be? It seems like it could be flex related but it’s so time-consuming fiddling with the flex markers.
Great question Raph. It does sound like a Flex issue. If you’re on an earlier version of Logic V10.6x etc the algorithms are still not as good as they are in later editions. I’d try 2 things. First, bounce your Drummer tracks to audio and see what happens then with the new audio track as master. Second, make sure all of your Flex selections are set to POLYPHONIC as this makes the world of difference. Hopefully you will find a solution. Cheers 🙏🏾

Hello! Quite recently started out with logic and having this problem when pressing play the first kick hits are off time, like they're rushed almost. Only happens when starting playback from the exact beginning of the drummer region, not when having 1 bar of space before for example. Know any solution for that?
You know what I remember there was a time when I used to experience the exact same thing with Drummer. Somehow it resolved itself but at the time my solution was to convert the offending region to midi then quantize or drag ONLY that first kick directly onto the grid. This was a workaround but like I said the problem stopped occurring at some point and I don’t know why.
Everything I need to know EXCEPT how to put two drum regions, from the same drummer, within the same track, as shown in this video. Help! That one has been the bain (bane) of my drummer editing troubles. My searches are not yielding that answer.
😂😂😂 I’m glad you got it figured out JL. I felt your pain in the first post then the relief in the second. Been there so many times my friend. Thanks for your great feedback Vincent. The key command I used was M as I have this set up to mute regions and notes. The standard key command is Control M which should work for you if you have not changed it like I did. Cheers 😀

Good question James. Open by clicking the Add New Track button in the Logic Pro. Then select the Drummer option from the window that opens and you will be good to go 👍🏾

Oh wow my friend you really have been missing out. I also resisted the upgrade for about a year or so after version 10 came out as v9 was so stable. How the current Logic is a completely different beast. Enjoy 😀
Great question Eric. Try this. Start a new clean Logic project and create a drummer track as the first track in the project. Now switch between styles and drummers and the tempo will change. Hope that helps. Cheers 😀 Duce.
@@MTTC Thank you for your response but I tried that and the tempo remained the same as I auditioned. I have the latest Logic Pro x 10.7.7 and I noticed when you changed drummers the tempo changed. Makes it really nice when auditioning.

Thanks for the great question George. Yes absolutely you can multi output your Drummer tracks. Once you are satisfied with your Drummer performance across your production duplicate the Drummer track and regions then mute the originals as a safeguard should you need to go back. Now right click on the duplicate regions and choose Convert to MIDI. Once the Drummer regions are in MIDI format you will see that they are all on individual output tracks in a Track Stack. 😀
Great question. Drummer is great at working with the composition you have already made. Just use the Follow Track feature I covered in this or the next video I did on Advanced Drummer features and you will realise the power of this tool. Cheers 🥁

Hey John. Thanks a lot for your great feedback. As for your process you can start with a drum groove, build up your production around that then modify the drums as you go along and the song develops. One of the most amazing things about Drummer is its flexibility and one’s ability to make either subtle or dramatic changes to the groove at any point in the song where needed. It would be cool if drummer was able to produce reggae beats. But I haven't seen any way to do that with drummer. But drummer is great. By playing around with it a bit, it is possible to use in the studio and get a result that listeners wouldn't be able to distinguish from a real drummer.
Great point Tony. It is a shame that there is not a reggae drummer option on there. But I have spent time working with this tool and I have saved $$$$$ on not having to hire a drummer for a lot of productions where a live player would have otherwise been called. Cheers.😀

Thanks so much for your great comment. Truly appreciated. In answer to your question, you can remap the samples from the Drummer Kits but first you must convert the groove you have created using Drummer to MIDI. Then you’ll get access to the Drum Machine Designer plugin which drives all of the kits and samples. From here you can remap and save as a custom kit. Incidentally I’ll be releasing a follow up video on Drummer uncovering some of the more advanced techniques you can use in your productions so stay tuned. Cheers 😀 Duce.
Just found this link and subscribed. We are a non digital band but wanted to try this drum feature in one of our mixes to try different sounding kits. a lot easier than being physical kits in studio just for experimenting.
Believe me you cannot go wrong with Logic’s Drummer. There’s just so much you can do with this awesome tool and it so often goes overlooked. But take your time and figure it out and transform your music productions. I’m using it and releasing music with own tailored Drummer grooves all the time. Cheers 😀
Is the Groove Track totally different to the Follow function within each Drummer region ? Does one override the other, or can I further enhance the relationship by having the overall Drummer Groove to the bass and have the regions follow rhythm guitar etc ? I better experiment ! I usually have the region Follow rhythm guitar , with great results but you have made me think of including bass and rhythm.Together.The Groove Track I forgot about. Thank you for another excellent tutorial.With sweet music too.Your music is so rich in feel, proper music.
Thanks for your very positive feedback HK. The Drummer Follow feature is quite different to the Groove Track in that with Follow you can get Drummer to imitate another instrument whereas with Groove you get instruments to groove together as you would in a band. Both are worth exploring. Cheers 😀

Logic Pro comes with a great set of drum kits all perfectly set up and ready to go with a range of different exciting drummers too. If you want to add additional drum sounds using the drum machine designer then Splice . com is a great resource for that. Cheers 😀

Hmmmm. Would you suggest this for reggae or not really suited? I’ve ignored it this far and just sampled or programmed directly. Now starting to mess with modo drum but I have to give Logic a real go. Respect as always
Respect bro. I’d say you definitely can use Drummer for reggae however it will take a little time to master the swing adjustments and you will need to convert your parts to MIDI for full control over Riddim style ie One Drop, Rockers, Stepper etc. Bless 🙏🏾 Duce.

The swing can be tricky, but I do like the easy 'Follow' feature for kicks and snare in relation to y other tracks, very very helpful for keeping everything tight and something my usual workflow doesn't automatically have. Still not there yet, one love
I like all your other videos, but I don't understand your enthusiasm for the Logic Drummer. Yes, all the choices are great---- but why don't they have basic rhythms listed like blues, country, jazz, reggae, Latin, etc? The descriptions make no sense and are difficult to work with. What if I just want a country train beat, or a blues shuffle, or a jazz waltz, or a reggae rhythm? Or a Bo Diddley beat, or a pop ballad? I don't understand the "Logic" in not making these available.
You make an excellent point Joe about the limited range of genres covered by the Logic Drummer. I suppose it’s never really bothered me as the music I produce is very well catered for and therefore I’ve not noticed these limitations. One alternative is to use the very extensive Loop Library which has a lot of drum loops for a much wider range of genres but it would be great if Logic had a broader range of styles.
