Hey! I just installed mine the other day. It’s only been a few days but it’s really great! For the price it does a lot! I love that I can just pull out my iPhone and check on my front porch whenever I want. And it does not require a monthly subscription like other competitors.
Cool, I’m glad you’re happy with it. It does have a monthly subscription if you want to record though. It just happens to be bundled in with your iCloud subscription so if you’re already paying for that then it’s kinda free. If you’re just streaming without recording, pretty much all doorbells do that for free. Some even have a local SD card to record to, which would have been nice if Logitech had this option.
Nice video. I’m still having trouble with people complaining about the vertical camera. This is a doorbell cam people this isn’t a front yard cam its merely meant to show you who is at the door. I have other cams that monitor the perimeter as intended. I’m not sure when people thought a doorbell cam should monitor the whole front yard. Anyway mine should be here soon cant wait!

Thank you. They all are at risk and there are some with similar pin releases but at least they have wires attached. The wires won't stop them but it does take an extra second to cut or pull them. I really would like to see a security screw. Plus I haven't seen a replacement plan from Logitech, like Nest & Ring.
About damn time. That one doorbell that did work with HomeKit secure was ridiculously priced. Sucks about the portrait mode but I think I can live with for now. Hopefully they bring landscape video soon in a second version
Yea, it something I could live with too. I just hope this doesn't become a trend, cause I've been seeing a lot of other new doorbell go vertical too. I have feeling they are doing this so it forces people buy other security cameras to put around their front yard.
Thank you for the review: it contained the technical info I was looking for. I watched the step-by-step installation instructions on the Logitech site and it does mention the following regarding direct sunlight: "The Circle View Doorbell uses wiring and power from the existing wired doorbell at your entrance. It is designed to be installed at the location of your existing doorbell. If the location of your existing doorbell gets direct sunlight, the thermal energy from the sun may cause the Circle View Doorbell to heat up significantly more than it would if it were shaded. This could cause the system to take thermal control measures, including shutting off the device to cool it down and restarting once the internal temperature drops to an optimal operational level. In the case of direct sunlight, we recommend the following - consider moving the installation location of your doorbell and the associated wiring to a place that does not get direct sunlight, or if you prefer to keep the existing location, consider installing an eave / soffit for the device. " The door bell location (with existing wires) is in direct sunlight all afternoon and there's no way I'll install some form of eave over the doorbell: too bad, I really like the other features and the Homekit compatibility.
Can you come up with a safety video? How to a alert you at night or away that maybe your stove is still on and you can turn it off. Carbon monoxide alert while you are away or durning the night. Motion that a kid is on a trampoline, play set or back yard? I think smart home can do a lot for our home safety that we never thought. I don’t have the resources the moment to experiment with it.I love your videos and have recommended them to other smart home dads I know! Thanks

Nice! Yeah, I have the doorbell ring on all my HomePods and if I'm watching Apple TV, the video pops up. It's pretty cool. If you want to have some fun, you can do custom sounds/music play on your Homepods and airplay 2 speakers when somebody rings the door. great vid. personally i'd reposition the doorbell camera as 30% of the field of view is taken up by your wall and doorframe which certainly wont help with the reflection of the night vision camera. I reckon you'd get a much clearer picture at night if the light wasn't reflecting from the front of the house.
Thank you. I actually tested it not mounted to avoid the doorframe and got the same results. It simply can't see at night without light. I'll try to post something in the next couple days on Instagram story showing this.
Thanks, Dustin. Yea, it might be an issue if you don't have some type of overhang or protection at your front door. You might have that issue with many smart doorbells though if you're in direct sunlight. Bob thinks I'm getting crazier by the day. I now have 7 doorbells.
I’ve had this doorbell installed for 3 days now and love everything about it but one thing it has turn off twice on me because of over heating. The front of my house has a covered patio but I guess the sun is still coming through. I’ve had ring and a nest hello and never experienced these issues. This is a huge oversight by logitech. An outside doorbell that cannot have direct sunlight is an major fail. I don’t understand how is it my Logi View over my garage sits in Direct sunlight all day and I doesn’t have this issue but the doorbell does? Right now I’m not sure if I’m gonna keep it and wait for something else or return it.
Sounds like a major issue to me. Most of the stuff I mention are just minor opinion stuff but in your case it’s a hard fact and major issue, especially since there are other reports of this too so I would not keep it.
Hey Modern Day Tech, great video…as you get to the install portion you mention having HomePods around the house, which we do, and plan to use instead of the chime. Do I even need to set up (wire in) the Chime Kit if I am not going to use the Chime? I know this video is 2 years old, but really appreciate your time if see this message.
Thanks for watching. Sound like you have a wired chime thats all tied in with the transformer and wires at the door so you'll have to use the chime kit. But if you have direct power to the wires at the door (which most people don't) then no. I hope that makes sense to you, let me know.
That’s a good question. I’m not sure if it’s Apple or maybe many companies just can’t meet apple’s criteria for a doorbell. Whatever that might be. Until then, thank goodness for the starling hub and hoobs (homebridge).
Good thorough review Eric! You actually just talked me out of picking up one of these. Too many shortcomings just to have HKSV. Hopefully more HKSV doorbells are on their way!
@@ModernDayTech Not a singular one but the angle of view and the lack of proper night view are a couple. Also, we chase HKSV but many of the offerings are really subpar. I anticipate more HKSV video doorbells hitting the market in the coming year so I’ll wait and evaluate the offerings before drilling another hole in my wall for yet another doorbell.
Question for you. I have the Belkin/Weemo doorbell and one of things I dislike is that if for some reason my router restarts the doorbell disconnects and I have to take the doorbell off and essentially reinstall. I can’t reset from the HomeKit app and there isn’t an option directly with Belkin/Weemo. Do you know if the Logitech CircleView has the same issue?
Hey Mark, honestly every camera has color night vision cause it just a normal doorbell camera. The only added difference is the added integrated light to help out the camera if you don't have outside lights on. I happen to keep my outside lights on all night so all my doorbell cameras do the same thing if I turn off night vision (IRs)
@@ModernDayTech 👍👍 Yes I know,but not every doorbell cam has the led light to keep the video in color.. hence like I said the Skybell HD doorbell cam has been doing that for over 4yrs now.. I only bring that up because you mention in your video that hadn't seen that before on doorbell cam..

I prefer the vertical orientation more than wide view. I’m in a condo with a narrow walk up, so wide view is useless to me. The vertical view is far more important to me so I can see if packages are on the ground in front of the door or not.

@@MrSchneiderish Let me know. I have two Eufy doorbells and the last time I check it doesn't work with HK. It's been a while though since I've had them on. I'm hoping they will get it but I'm doubtful. There is also a Homebridge plugin but I can't get it working.
Great video again, Eric. One question though if not too much trouble. Can you enable a scene or accessory to trigger when the doorbell button is pushed? I tried pausing the video when you displayed the settings page but didn’t notice it. I’m currently using a Nest Hello with Starling Hub which has this feature. Starling is amazing and have had zero issues with it but I’m afraid the plug will be pulled on that one day. I know you reviewed that too. Which would you choose between this or the Nest Hello with Starling? Thanks!
Oh, good question. I love this and I wished I talked about it in the video. There is no current option for a button press to trigger other HK accessories/scenes, but in the Home+ it is exposed and it looks like you can do it there. I'll test when I get home tonight. BTW: there are two exposed buttons in Home+ for the nest doorbell. Do you know why two? Only 1 shows up in HK. I haven't decided yet on which one will be my primary. I really want to go native but I love the features on the Starling. Right now, I'm weighing toward returning the Logitech but I have a few more weeks to decide.
@@ModernDayTech Yeah I’m with the same dilemma with the two doorbells. Good catch by the way, never realized there are two buttons in the Home+ app for the Starling/Nest but I can’t even seem to figure out how to create the button press automation for either. I very rarely use Home+ though. Been a little buggy for me. My go to for automations is Eve and it seems in there you can also do double and long press for the doorbell lol. Not sure who is going to know to double or long press your doorbell but the option is there lol. Dustin (MyHomekitHome) would love it for his emergencies lol. Eve also has two button press options but it appears one is dead and doesn’t do anything. I bet the fine folks over at Starling would know. Great customer service there.
I would wire it with cat 6 and a normal door bell wire if you don’t want to use two of the cat 6 wires as normal doorbell. But having cat 6 should help future proof you, but I would not get the Robin now. Hopefully they will come out with newer version soon cause it has a lot of potential. I personally wouldn’t get the Logitech unless you have to have a native HKSV homekit doorbell. Both the Logitech and netatmo both have vertical formats which I don’t like. The Logitech also has known issues with heat so if you live in a warm climate I would avoid it. Arlo has HK doorbell but it doesn’t have hksv but I like the video ratio much better from what I’ve seen. I haven’t tried the netatmo or Arlo. Personally I still use and love my nest hello that I run through the starling hub. It’s had features that no other camera has, although it’s not native to HK. Nest alone is the fastest. Both motion and doorbell notification. Nest with Starling & Logitech were about the same for motion, and the doorbell notification was slightly faster on Logitech. Pretty much the same order on 4G vs WiFi but I did see an overall increase over on 4G.

I was decided to buy this doorbell, but the theft risk is making me think about it twice, I live in a neighborhood with bad reputation, so this could be a problem at night.
Understand any doorbell is open to theft. Many have security security screws that will only slow down a theft 1 or 2 second. There are also other doorbell that have just the push hole but at least those are tied to wires which will also slow down a theft 1 or 2 seconds. Nothing is theft proof. But at least other companies have theft replacement plans as I haven't seen with Logitech yet.

Great video! I consider buying this doorbell, and place it next to the gate of my home (not in the front door). Is there a way I could trigger an "open door" command to the gate, from within the home iPhone app (currently I open the gate either by a pressing manual button from home or by pressing "1" in my landline phone)?
Yes, I have! However I couldn’t understand if I need a special homekit lock, or if I can do this to my existing and standard electric gate (to give an idea: it’s using a magnet and there’s a “bzzz” sound when I trigger the open action)?
To be more precise - the lock is not a magnet but rather electric and once I physically click to open it, an electric current makes a buzz and the gate can be opened.
I'm not sure yet. Having a native HK doorbell is a huge plus but thats all that is going for this doorbell. Nest with Starling hub has all the same features plus ton more. It might be worth waiting to see what other HK camera comes out soon.

@@msdonahoo @April Donahoo My primary doorbell is still the nest hello. I think the Logitech is a disappointment in a lot of areas as I mentioned in my video review and I'm not even considering the issue with heat. (If its not in the shade, stay away) But if you want a native homekit doorbell now, its the only one I would buy while I waited for something better. The wemo, netatmo, yobi, arlo & robin, I would stay away from for various reason. But I think you'll be happy with nest hello (if thats the model you got) and the starling hub. I haven't tried the new nest doorbell but I like the specs on the hello better.
When you view it, it will still show in that format. So you’ll see more of what you want, but you might have to turn your head to see it in the right direction. If you try to turn you phone it will change the orientation to vertical unless you have it off.
Yes, you'll get more horizontal view that you probably want but on your phone it will be horizontal view in vertical format. Even if you turn your phone, it rotates into vertical format.
My wife cant view history on the app, only live happenings. She is now sharing my icloud, I logged out and reset everything and she still can't view history. Any tips? Or is this not possible?
In the Home app, hit the Home Icon in the top left, Scroll to Home Settings, Click on wife name (under people), click on cameras, change from stream only to stream & view recordings.
You’re getting bad night vision because of the mounted position of the doorbell. The reflected yellow exterior of your house is causing your camera to under expose resulting in poor night vision performance. Other reviewers have avoided this by the position of the doorbell. Maybe a more angled position of the doorbell might help?
Who said I was getting bad night vision? I actually said it was pretty awesome! 03:25 but for clarification, I also used the camera without the mount and pointed it out in the yard and still only got about 5-6 feet in complete darkness. There has to be light for the color night vision to work. It can be your own lights, neighbors lights or even some moon light. But the light from the camera can only go about 6 feet. Even Logitech says so. Check the specs page. Plus the photos/video I’ve seen from other users are all lite up or lights from their neighbors.
Just as a heads up, the motion sensing is even worse than he talks about, literally shadows set it off. The motion sensing tech that can discern people or animals works decently well, but you cannot use that function to, for example, turn on your porch lights when people walk up to the door. Disappointingly, the lux light sensor cannot be used in HomeKit, and you cannot have your lights come on when someone presses the doorbell (only secondary apps can do this). After having my doorbell for a bit and playing with it, it honestly feels like a beta pre-release and is missing a bunch of features HomeKit accessories should have.

You mentioned something about skipping all that old tech in your vid and i totally agree. so is it possible to just connect an ac -> dc adaptor (like the ring one) to the doorbell and skip all the connections to whatever doorbell wiring? so it is just a dc power source directly to the doorbell and that’s all. the plan is to just use the homepods as the chime. Would really appreciate a reply coz i can’t seem find much info on it. logitech website wasn’t helpful.
