I ended up buying one from Amazon that I returned immediately because while the case was nice and sturdy, it would disconnect from the Bluetooth every time I opened it up. Now I’m using another cheaper version with a detachable keyboard that I got from Amazon and it has its pros and cons but I don’t like the quality of the keyboard and how it types. it feels like an old-school keyboard and not a chiclet style. It feels cheap. So this one I will be returning as well. I went to Best Buy in order to check out the magic keyboard as well as the one that zagg makes for the air 4 as well as the folio touch. out of all of them, I preferred the Folio touch. The only thing I didn’t like about the folio touch is I wish the color could just be a solid black or solid gunmetal gray. I don’t like seeing the fabric like texture in this color b/c it reminds me of a five star brand notebook, but it was a nice and sturdy case. I really loved how the keys felt when I was typing on it. it made me feel like I was typing on my MacBook Air (2014). It felt like a true Chiclet style keyboard. It did not feel cheap. I also wish for my other con that it was freestanding. I don’t really like the kickstand feature. I prefer it to have a hinge so it will free stand but I guess that’s something I’m going to have to get used to in order to have a good quality case. I absolutely have to have backlit keys and the crap one that I’m using now does not have backlit keys so the folio touch is a plus because it does have backlit keys. I also have peace of mind that it will connect to my iPad through smart connect which is something I just learned about when I went to Best Buy. I had no clue about this type of technology. I love it because now I don’t have to worry about keyboards that connect via Bluetooth breaking or getting worn out (zagg lol) not connecting to the Bluetooth or frequently having to pair because this connects to your smart connect and is powered by it and is paired immediately, Which translates to less stuff breaking and less money spent to replace the keyboard, and in the end less frustration. When I had my iPad Air 1st gen, I can’t tell you how many zagg keyboards I went through because of either Bluetooth issues or cable issues. This is a problem I’m glad that’s gone after I upgraded to the air 4. The kicker is that there’s not a whole lot of accessories for the air 4 right now. I’m kind of kicking myself for not going with a pro but I’ve always liked the air series and it’s got the better chip right now. I know this is a long paragraph but this is my experience with my Best Buy experience when I went to go in and test all the keyboards. I didn’t really care for the magic keyboard not just because it’s super pricy but I find it to be more like how they’re doing their keys for the newer MacBooks. they’re shallow. it’s like the same height as the keyboard itself. some people might like that but I kind of felt like I was typing on nothing. I didn’t really care for it and I also didn’t like that for $300, there’s no backlit keys! that’s wrong imo. Lastly, I typed on was the zagg Pro keys for the iPad Air 4 and that one was considerably thinner than the folio touch which is typical of zagg. they’ve always had thin stuff compared to others. I didn’t like the shape of the keys. they’re circular. It wasn’t a bad keyboard for $99.99 but for an extra 50 or 60 bucks, you can go with better protection and have a smart connecting keyboard with the folio touch whereas with zagg they’re still using old technology connecting through Bluetooth. when I think about that, it makes me think of all the issues I had when I had my air 1 and the constant Bluetooth issues I had where it would drop pairing and you would have to re-pair or you’d have to replace the keyboard or you had cable issues. for me to go through that again, this is an expensive keyboard. it’s 100 bucks. what if it breaks in three months like the other ones used to? that’s something I don’t want to invest in because after you replace it once, you already bought a folio touch that you could’ve had. And if you have to replace it three times, that’s a magic keyboard that you could’ve had. Imho, the Zagg one is not even worth it. It’s using old technology. if anything they should drop the price point down to 50 bucks tops. but for 50 to 60 bucks lower than the folio touch which I know is newer technology, it’s going to probably have less problems in the long run and that’s probably the best case you can get right now for the air 4.

Great analysis! I was torn between the Apple case without a keyboard but that provides minimal drop protection. This isn't too much more expensive and adds a touchpad plus keyboard....killer!

I’ve had the air 4 and this keyboard case since launch. I concur with the weight statement... it’s a hefty device with this case on it. I think making the keyboard removable with magnets would actually resolve a couple issues with this case. The keyboard feels like it has a metal plate in it, so if i could take that off for a lightweight option, that’d be awesome.

Great review capturing the main points- the backlit keyboard deserves mention too. after looking at the Apple magic keyboard and smart keyboard, I decided to purchased the Logitech. So glad I did.

Great review. Thank you so much. I was concerned about connecting my new. Hyper+Drive 7-in-one. Now I’ve ordered the recommended adaptor. Another feature I was wondering about: I wish this keyboard were backlit. I have loved my Incipio Clamshell+Power case for my iPad Air 2, and I honestly cannot find anything comparable for the Air 4. A big disappointment. I tried out the Apple folio case but it simply does not have the “touch feel” I am after, no backlitng on the keys, and I hate the kickstand. I guess I’ll probably hate the kickstand on the Logitech too, but at least it has the trade-off of protection + a trackpad. And a nice finish to the cover, one that won’t collect fingerprints galore! Thanks again!

Thanks for your review, very helpful. Wondering if I can ask a question? Just purchased this folio and I can’t get the curser to do anything other than highlights what I want to open. Is there a key I need to press to get the curser to open apps etc? I’ve been tapping on the touchpad but to no avail. Thanks!

thanks - a couple of bits missing from your review. Does the keyboard detach easily? (leaving the ipad within the other half of the case) - this is handy for taking your ipad to sofa or bed for netflix etc. Also, can you confirm the keyboard doesnt need to be charged separately? eg it just takes any current it needs from the ipad? thanks

I bought one yesterday and now I am using the keyboard to type, the only downside are 1st it’s a bit heavy 2nd is it can’t be detached it’s painful to hold the whole keyboard protection while reading something on the web

Great review. Although it is heavy, I like this keyboard. I feel as though the iPad is well protected (I travel quite frequently and wanted a way to leave my laptop at home). Has anyone had an issue with this keyboard locking up their iPad 4? I’ve been using this keyboard for about a week. Lately, everytime I open the case, my iPad is locked up. I have to hard reboot to get the iPad to work. Is it just me? Anyone know a trick/setting I don’t? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the review. I’ve been looking at this case for some time hoping they would make it for the pro as I really miss the function keys. Wish they would make the keyboard removable. Hi, thanks for the review. One question though - does the track pad/ keyboard get affected when it's flipped over and face down on whatever surface you have it on? I worry it might get damaged or something if it's making direct contact with the surface.

I have a magnetic Logitech keyboard that fits to my iPad. I often have trouble actually typing instead of using the pop-up keyboard. I click the keyboard at the right-hand bottom of my iPad to turn it on but it doesn’t always work. What am I doing wrong?

can someone help me? i want the combo touch without the trackpad(so i can use a mouse) so basically a slim folio but for the ipad air 4 (which isn’t a thing). or the folio touch with a detachable keyboard. i need it detachable so i can use the rear camera with ease and with an easy hold. i’m not a fan of folio cases in general because it gets in the way with the rear camera. i use it quite a bit.

Been using for only 2 days, noticed their track pad sucks.. especially for 2 finger scrolling function not working.. otherwise others are ok.. and realised another issue as I’m the kind usually use iPad to jot notes, but this casing doesn’t fit most of the screen protector... so its quite hard for me to do notes using my stylus on bare screen, afraid of leaving scratch of things like that.. been asking Logitech live agent but no answer, they just reply will email soon... but dont know when is it.. ok, by the way, hopefully someone see my comment and give suggestion on that. Thanks!

Personally im happy w the upgrade from Ipad Air ((first generation A7 chip)) to new Air 2020 A14 I don't have the need for keyboard but $ 300 is way out Tough logitech half price still expensive but at least it's an option at 50% less. BTW its impressive after all these years Apple keep up w upgrades that's why most users might not care for years to come the one time extra $ 300 MYOP!! GREAT REVIEW!!

It’s the same price as the Smart keyboard with extra or similar to the Magic keyboard that cost 2x more. I have yet to buy my Air but I feel this Folio touch is the best keyboard from the two apple…AND TO ADD THIS HAS SHORTCUT KEYS!

One thing that confuses me with these keyboard cases, if you flip the keyboard round the back because you want to use it as a tablet/and or use just the pencils, will your fingers not hit the keys on the back and interfere? Likewise if you lay it flat on a surface with the keyboard on the back? Or am I missing something?

I have mine constantly flipped around the back. I had wondered what would happen but there are no problems, I figure it must 'know', and disconnect the keyboard function while it's bent back.

The only disadvantage is that you can’t put this on your lap unlike the magic keyboard. But it protects your iPad Air 4 or iPad Pro 11 inch and keeps the pencil 2 in place. Magic Keyboard trackpad is still superior. For the Folio Touch, you can still sketch/draw by flipping it around but you can’t use the keyboard especially with the need to type name for layers in Procreate and/or Adobe Draw/sketch

Man, you missed my biggest con, and that is that you cannot really use this as a laptop, as you can with the magic keyboard. I bought my ipad used and it came with this keyboard case, and I'm still getting the magic keyboard (used for $150 though). This case reminds me of why I just couldn't stick with the surface pro, that little leg in the pag prohibits lap use...
