Hello. Can MX work with wireless turned off, only via cable. I'm not a fan of high frequencies around me.thx.

Nice review. I was looking at the Perixx 11556 PERIMICE-517. I have two Logitech Kensington 72337 Orbit Trackballs which I liked because of the scroll ring. One has left mouse button issues and I thought I could fix it but I don't have small enough torx screwdrivers and to be honest, I won't know what to do with it unless it was dust in between the button and the electronic thingys (that's the extent of my electronics knowledge, yet I'm a DBA hahaha). I too an in Australia so it's good to hear about the postage because that can kill the price of buying one. I like the extra buttons on these thumb trackballs.

To find out what battery you need, all you have to do is open the mouse and look at the specs and dimensions of the battery itself. If it's a standard size, and not a custom model, then replacement should be simple. If the battery has a model number on it, then you could just look that up. It probably has a similar battery to the ones in other Logitech rechargeable mice.

You didn't cover how annoying the Mx Ergo is to clean. You can't use your finger anymore to pop the ball out, not everyone has a pen lying around and only certain thin pens work. I bought two one for my desktop the other for laptop. After a couple months the Ergo went for flying lessons the other I gave away. It just go too frustrating to clean. For that reason alone I would NOT recommend the Mx Ergo. We all know you have to clean trackballs often - fine - so make it like the darn M570 and pretty much any other trackball under the sun.

Sorry to hear that it has been a challenge for you to clean. Honestly I seldom clean mine and it works fine, and I do have pens lying around when I do have to clean.
@df3yt

@@innovational Not your fault ;). Just an annoying oversight. My one ball ended up getting a scratch on it from a pen, so you could "feel" the scratch as it went over the bearings. Partly why it went flying.

Imagine that during my 2 years of using M570 it never occured to me that you could pop the ball out(it's stuck in there, right?). I would take the mouse apart every time i needed to clean it. I only learned about it today by chance... looking for other mice I noticed an mx ergo with ball popped out. I feel so stupid now.

@@thepgo666 Stick with the M570, ergo not worth it's money. I bought Sanya units now and they are pretty good build wise. Bearings feel great but the "outer plastic" is a bit too hard plastic for me, I prefer soft touch. My kids love them though. My M570's of late haven't lasted more than a year, buttons pack up.

BUT . . . How well do they work? I have a drawer full of old Logitech wireless trackballs and all of them have failed because of (I believe) intentionally bad micro switches. To me, it is an issue of planned malfunction. It's worked for me, since, like a stupid B. F. Skinner conditioned rat, I kept buying them because they fit my hand and worked well - for a while. Being fed up with Logitech, and since it seems there are better options, I'm abandoning Logitech, hopefull forever.

Sometimes the M570 switches are still good, but just dirty. I tried spraying contact cleaner over all the switches and it seemed to fix the double click issue for me for now. Hoping it's not just a temporary fix. You're right though that they're not high quality switches and they break often.
@brillopad1392

@@matt_nemmer Thank you for that bit of information. I will give it a try. They way they construct the device makes it difficult to replace the micro-switches, so perhaps your fix will work for me.

Thanks for this informative video. Just a hint: there's a typo in the summary: You tested the Perixx 517 - but wrote 715 in the summary ;-) And BTW: the wireless version of the Perixx Trackball is model number 717 . I had' a Logitech Trackman Wheel Marble for many years (in fact i had three of them) - and i loved them - there are only two bad things about them: #1: the micro-switch issue you mentioned on the M570 (which is actually not an issue of the switch but of the plastic parts pushing it. This can be fixed by placing a tiny drop of hot glue on the pusher of the micro switch - but it takes a bit of luck and slow hands to get that done right ;-) ) and #2: the cable which is becoming very hard and unflexible after a few years. In fact i changed the cables on all my Trackman Marbels after a few years. One other thing that also bothered me on my Trackman Marbles is that they are a bit too small for my hand (which are rather big, i have to confess - and which actually was the main reason why i couldn't find a regular mouse that'd be fitting to my hand). - And i had the same problem with the Perixx - whose flatness makes it even worse. The MX is much more comfortable for me. And in the upright position you can work much longer without getting pains in your wrist The M570 - which is pretty much just the wireless version of the Trackman Marble - is sold in europe for about 35-40 €uros incl. pp. The Perixx 517 is sold for about 25-30 € around here - The wireless Perixx 717 is available for only ~8 €uros more. For the MX Ergo they're asking 80-95 €uros - which is just too much - even though it is clearly the best of these three. I got mine for 50 € from a shop closure - so i was lucky

I don't know why trackballs aren't more popular - I guess they suck for gaming? I've been using exclusively trackballs for years and just picked up the Logitech MX Ergo and love it.
@innovational
@innovational 4 года назад
Mx ergo is a solid trackball, my favorite to date. When it comes to productivity nothing beats it IMO. With gaming I still use a mouse, only because I don't want to wear out my valuable trackball! Otherwise I wouldn't mind gaming with it either. When it comes to working with multiple displays it's very inefficient working with a mouse compared to a trackball.

I've used trackballs for gaming for close to 20yrs and I'll never be changing. I would say the people that say they suck for gaming are mostly (if not all) people that just don't like trackball mice.

I have only been using them for couple years - mouse for 20+. In one of the FPS games they have a "target practice" stage. I score higher with the trackball. With strategy games they totally rock.

There is a pecking order as to sensitivity of ball travel with gray being the most sensitive. My M570 has a gray ball , the mX Ergo died after 21/2 years. So any ball works as long as its the same diameter.

Guys I have to jump in and add few thoughts from my experience. 1. Perixx perimice is NOT well calibrated. when you try to have horizontal movement it goes diagonally, it's shit in FPS games. Go with m570(I don't know about Ergo) it is just couple of degrees, but it can make a difference. 2. Perimice has very clunky middle mouse button, if you use it a lot -> you will hate it. I highly recommend going with Logitech. 3. CARE A LOT ABOUT YOUR BALLS (pun intended), wen travelling use some cloth or someting for the trackball or for the mouse.They easily get scratched, and one scratch can ruin whole trackball mouse. Replacements are pretty expensive, and from my perspective perixx balls are not as precise as original Logitech balls. 4. The m570 battery life is AMAZING. It uses just one standard AA battery and it serves like... a year? I never experienced something like that in any other mouse. 5. On Linux the perimice DPI button seems not to do anyting. 6. My overall experience with perixx perimice is NOT that bad. I would still prefer it from a typical mouse. And perixx balls work really really well with perixx trackball mice. Only little caveats are the horizontal axis angle and clunky middle mouse button. I just generally would recommend m570 first. Although I never used Ergo.

Thanks, appreciate your insight. I haven't used my Perixx for a very long time. Both Logitech trackballs ended up being disappointing due to faulty cheap switches. My daily device is Elecom Ex-G - can't fault it, you should try it out. I have a video on it.

@@innovational Very good point, as I'm a hardware collector of game controllers, keyboards, mice/track balls, and handheld game consoles, and it becomes a pain in the ass when you can no longer replace the battery in something you want to use when they could have simply designed around a common old school Nokia type rechargeable battery, or AA/AAA batteries which you can get in standard, and rechargeable, and upgrade as the tech changes.

You can grab a trackman marble from Logitech on Amazon it's not wireless but the center marble allows for comfortable operation with either hand. It's actually better than these but it's wired. Logitech Trackman Marble Mouse www.amazon.ca/dp/B001F42MKG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_gQ.wDbB4RVAX9

My question is, are either of those two more durable than the M570? I've gone through two of them in the last two years (one went bad on me just tonight) and have had to switch back to my old wired Logitech that I kept specifically because I wasn't sure if "the new guy" would last. I'm not sure what the model number is on that old bugger, maybe N231, but I've had it for over a decade and only replaced it with the M570 because the trackwheel isn't working as well, though I think it just needs cleaned out. And honestly, if that's all it'll take to get that one back up to 100% I'm very hesitant to buy yet another mouse if they're not durable and resilient. Not if I have to buy another one every few months.

balls roll pretty smootly on all of them, altough from my experience perimice has slightly different horizontal angle, and when I try to move mouse horizontally it goes diagonally on a slight angle, it's okay in everyday tasks, but it is annoying wen you want to make a 180 in an FPS game.
