Thank you for making such a lovely video about Brick Lane and especially of our business, Modern Saree Centre. Sadly our business was based in Brick Lane, opposite Taj Stores to be exact and not in Princelet St. Unknown to ourselves when we were refurbishing and modernising our premises the wooden signage disappeared which was extraordinary as it was about 15 feet in length. But it reappeared later residing on the premises it does now. We don't hold any ill feelings to how it got where it is now because, as we feel as long as it is hanging on any premises our fathers hard work in establishing the business and his legacy will continue and be a focal point. As you mentioned Brick Lane has always been a street and area where ethnic communities from all over the world have historically resided and left their historical marks, from The French Huguneots, The Irish, The Jewish community after the War then our own Bangladeshi community in the early 70's and in regards to your concerns about being part of the gentrification, I would not blame yourself. Sadly the advance's of our lives and the UK's improvement in economy, have been the same negative reasons and some of the influences and factors for the gentrification of the area and the displacement of our Bangladeshi community from the area. Hi Lali, thanks for the reply. India is not about Hindi only, the person who wrote the national anthem of India was a Bengali. A Nobel laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore. We called him Rabindra Nath Thakur. Being a Bengali I feel proud. Three Bengalis got Nobel prize for India. No other state got so many Nobel prize for India. Bengalis are famous for their culture and education. As you have found when you came to Kolkata. And one last thing is Rabindra Nath Tagore wrote national anthem for Bangladesh too. Can you believe that ? Two different countries have anthem which is written by the same person ?

Thanks for the video! Fyi, Bengal was torn apart into two parts during partition of India and Pakistan in 1947. Eastern Bengal became East Pakistan then, now Bangladesh. Western Bengal is a state of India, still called West Bengal. So Bengali culture is and always be integral part of Indian culture. Kolkata city of West Bengal is considered as cultural capital of India. The National anthem of India was originally composed as "Bharoto Bhagyo Bidhata" in Bengali by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. National anthem of Bangladesh is also composed by Tagore! National song of India, "Bande Matram", is composed by another Bengali poet and novelist Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in Sanskritised Bengali.

Thank you for creating a great video to show Brick Lane. It is a very good initiative you are making of learning Hindi and hopefully you will add Bengali to your language list. BTW, your Hindi is brilliant! Just be careful of some printed leaflets with Bengali translations which have characters in incorrect places, e.g. some of the vowel signs are incorrectly placed. Also, you mentioned about Modern Saree Centre in 6:11. The actual shop was in 26-28 Brick Lane, but it was originally founded in 67 Brick Lane, which is now a restaurant called Brick Lane Brasseries. I believe the sign that you showed, they just took it and put it on the premises, not necessarily a saree shop there.
