London Underground: Narrow Platform at Clapham North Station

Gut to be little scary when speeding trains arrive at both platform at same time.

Angel and Euston (Bank/Monument branch southbound) were originally island platforms but have since been reconfigured to single platforms, hence the wide platforms. Angel was rebuilt because the island platform was even narrower, unsafe during rush hour and overcrowding. Euston was rebuilt as the station was being reconfigured for the Victoria line coming in during the 1960s

First time I went to this platform was when I missed my stop during rush hour. I will never forget house crowded the trains were on train going the other direction. There were a bunch waiting and it took 3 trains before I eventually squeezed my way on

my 3 yrs old son can't stop watching this video , his fascinated by it. lol i said to him this is so boring an he goes to me no ur boring!

I reckon if they ever decide to install more platform doors - they should prioritise this station or if possible expand the platform.

Pretty much every station on the Glasgow Subway is like this!

I just just admire the Tube model of the train and the underground platform.

Angel station used to be like this too. They bored a second tunnel and filled in the second track on the old one, meaning it now has a very wide platform there.

It's an interesting underground station, it's like a Glasgow subway station that has a lot of stations containing two platforms joined together.

That sort of platform would give me nightmares of falling. I'd hate to use it when it gets busy

I’ve always had a massive fear of this station, not sure why.

This is my 4th favourite line and the 1995 stock is my favourite of the modern stocks

Strangely enough island platforms on the tube are coming back into fashion (Hatton Cross, the Heathrow stations except Terminal 4, and the Jubilee line extension) - just very much wider than those old ones!!! (And also in the case of the Jubilee line with barriers separating the platform from the track.) The old narrow ones like the Claphams were not really safe, especially during peak hours when the platforms are crowded. I remember sometimes using the old one at Angel (before the reconstruction) and it gave me the heebie-geebies.

Apparently, it looks like the '95 Stock refurbishments took place in 2015. I thought it was 2016.

The station reminds me of the New York City subway, IRT Lenox Avenue, 110th St. station

Similar in width to Glasgow underground but the London trains are longer and faster. I was pretty scared the only time I used this station.

Also a narrow one in Essex. Harold Wood Station.

I think that the reason this station is constructed the way it is is because of space constraints, for example, there may be a sewer on one side and another underground structure such as a service tunnel on the other, therefore they couldn've made the platform wider like the standard tube station design. That's what I think 😃

I'm not a fan of the 1995 stocks, bit they are faster and cleaner than the junk 1972 trains
