At 70 years old and still motorcycle camping, i am looking for a more comfortable, ‘stand up inside’, tent. I have an ultralight Nemo Dagger 2P tent which is light and a fantastic tent. I have found on a recent 5,000km+ camping trip, that i could have been a bit more comfortable standing to dress and undress etc. Your video has shown me my next tent……for sure. The fact that the garage section is high enough to use as a lounge or cooking area in bad weather is another attractive advantage in my book. I am currently riding a 2018 Suzuki V-Strom 650XT and the size and weight of the tent doesn’t scare me….nor does the price…..It is cheaper than the Nemo. Thanks for a great, in depth, honest review. Thank you very much. I just came back from a 100-day camping tour. These tents are fantastic. 👏 I used the small ADV tent for practicality. But you appreciate the height and simplicity when you get it. Keep on riding, and stay well.
I have the Redverz tent. One thing to remember is all these type tents require guy-lines and stakes. I use the Redverz for 2 up trips and when I plan to set up camp for a few days. Everything thing else I just use a free standing Marmot 3 man tent that sets up in 2 minutes and packs way smaller.
I’ve made so many mistakes purchasing tents that serve a purpose but never been just right as this one indicates. Seems like a large 2 man tent in there mate...especially if you can get your gear in alongside the large cot. Also the fact that you can park your bike away from prying eyes. I’m beginning to love this one. There is another popular one out on the market but I think your review has sold it for me....hoping for lockdown to ease and sites open up again. I think the lone rider is the one. Thankyou for a great review mate. Keep them coming.

When I bought the MotoTent 5 Years ago, it was a lot of money back then. Using it time and time again I learned that quality has a price. I also bought the ADV TENT all from my own money. And guess what? Today I actually work for Lonerider. Making Videos. It always pays off in the long run to invest in a quality Product. If its Lonerider or any other good Brand. Hallo Stephan I actually have an arpenaz 4.2. What I do is I avoid installing the second “bedroom” to create more space and to make the tent a little lighter reducing bulk and weight by about 2kg. I have no problem with this because I travel alone and I find it quite easy to set it up.. ride safe. Alessandro, Italy 🏍
Well, it is a big tent though. You get what you ask for. Personally it is worth it every single time I use it. Riding a big bike like a GS. It really doesn't matter. Understand if you are using a little Honda 300. 👍
Thanks for sharing. I'm just surprised that it doesn't pack down smaller and lighter. As a big fan of Henry Shires' Tarptents (30D double silicone-coated ripstop nylon), I can only surmise that the MotoTent is a much heavier material than necessary. A Tarptent Double Rainbow, all in (tent, poles, extra poles, stakes, bag) is under 3 lbs. This MotoTent is huge! Love the vestibule, but does a real biker REALLY need to have is bike in the tent? Space better utilized by the humanoids.
Well, it is and it isn't. It is big. And for some that is important. But here is the real reason I don't care about the Wight. My GS is a heavy bike and can handle it easily. Yes all the weight adds up but no issue with this bike and others in this category. If you have a small bike and wanna travel light you have other requirements from the start. So it all depends 🤔
I'm very close to buying one of these but..... if the point of the vestibule is to hide the bike away from unwanted attention, why do they write Lone Rider is such large text on the side of the tent!? That just advertises that there's a bike inside waiting to be stolen. Without the massive branding, it could pass as any other family tent. Vain branding is reducing the security and the main selling point
You have a point from where you stand. Like someone is after your bike. Ok here is my take. In all those years, I never felt the need to hide my bike in my tent. If someone whats to steal your bike than it will be gone. With tent or without. And your grear and the rest of it. I use the tent because of the space and the flexibility of having not to crawl around on the floor. I can stand up and get out of my gear, have room to dry out or bring the bike in for a quick repair in the rain. The tent is tough and rock solid. If you have to hide your bike, you are at the wrong place. And if you are alone and setup camp in the middle of nowhere, why try to hide your bike? Don't believe this kind of advice. If you are into serious travelling you know better. All I can hear in those arguments is fear. Keep it up, and stop worrying. You missing out big time. Let the doubters be doubters , the know it all the know it all. Remember, what's right for you is just that, it right for you. Don't let anyone tell you differently. Hi Alain, just seen you comment. Yes , Soap and water, and have go with a pressure washer. They clean up very easy. I drop mine in a barrel of water somtimes.. They are tough.

Great review, thanks. I asked Lonerider about their new storage bag, they indicated it is water resistant but not a proper dry bag. Do you having any experience as to the performance of the new bag? I’m looking to purchase this tent and wondering if I need to invest in a larger dry bag for it. Thanks again.
Hi Andrew, I never had an issue with the bag. The old one was just a little too small. The new compression bag is excellent. I use the tent on all my travels and can only say don't worry about it. I carry the tent on my panniers or in my large dry-back with my cot and chair. I never had any issue with water because I kept it on top off my panniers. Even if water would get in, it has nowhere to go as the tent is rolled up and you always have the outside up. So honestly, just go for it and enjoy. All the best and thanks for dropping by. Seems to me the heat coming out of the motor bike could warm the tent up a bit. That would be good. Also, motor bike riding gear is probably good protective camping gear to start with. Good way of getting around if you can organize a shower and change of clothes.
How come no one shows how big the tent is when its a packed so we have a reference? Every video is showing the tent already deployed or being built and no angles of the tent relative to the size of the rider/motorcycle.

I've had my fair share of storms with this tent. No issues at all. The tent will give away at parts and then bounce back after the wind subsided. Really good 👍
You are so right, quality comes with a price. All my hopes of biking and camping went down the Covid-19 tube this year! Fingers crossed for vaccinations early next year. Another great video. ✌

Hi Alain. It's a fair question. Myself I'm a messy ADV rider. Dirt is my bling. The bags clean up very well with water and soap. Also they are very forgiving for scratches. After washing with water and soap or in my case with a pressure washer let them dry and use a rag misted with wd40 to freshen up the surface. Don't spray on directly or you end up with shiny patches. Also don't do to often. LR bags age very graciously making them show there age with pride. I'm still on my first set havding them abused beyond what other think is acceptable. The new ones are still in the box. Hope this helps. Keep it up. Steph

Great review! It was good to see one that has had lots of use over this many years. I am planning a good long trip next summer, over 8000 Km (5400 miles) and I'm going to buy this tent. I am traveling alone with a big adventure bike also so the packed size of this tent is somewhat irrelevant. With all the gear I'm taking would be about the same weight as a bare bike and caring a passenger so it is really a non-issue issue. Fairly easy to set up it seems also is great, I will do a couple practice runs at home before I leave with it. Being able to run the bike inside will be great when having to set up camp in the rain and then take stuff out of luggage on the bike, at least you're not getting wet in the process more than you already would be.
Thanks for you comment. Yes this tent is extremely durable and quick to set up. You have room to live, not just hide away. Small tip. Pack the poles separately. It's easier and faster that way. The compression bag is big enough for both though. Have fun and be safe on your trip.👍
Hello, thanks once more for your tent revieuw and your videos in general. I am looking for a new tent and the lone rider is one of the candidates.... I saw several revieuws on the Revertz Acatama which has quite a lot of plus points (in terms of ventilation for example). The tent is a little bit more expansive than the loan rider but when you add the price of the groundsheets (close to be twice more expansive buying Loan Rider than Revertz) , the prices are very close to each other.... Do you have some experience with Revertz ? Thanks for sharing your experience. Alain from France
Hi Alain. I don't have experience with the Reverez. But I know a thing about ventilation. There is this myth you need these little vents to keep condensation down. These little vents have very little impact. You need very big vents. There is just not enough circulation to make a difference. Most of the damp is coming from the ground. So a big ground sheet makes a big difference. By now o'm in year 6 with the tent. Still going strong. Greeting to france.

@@Adrian-uq9mqYou will be fine. The outer Tent is reflecting a lot of the sunlight. Even better with the latest version of the Tent. It is ok. During the day you keep the Tent full open anyway. Nothing is perfect, but this Tent is very, very close. I wouldn't travel without it. This is my 5th year with the same tent and boy did we have storms and torrential rain. Never ever had any problems.
Outstanding, I had the tent folders down on me during a heavy storm, just to pop Bach after the wind let off a bit. No damage or leaks. I still use the same tent after 6 years now.
This is a tricky question. You need to know what you like to do. If you only go for a little casual recording, go for a older gopro or a Sony 3000r on the second hand market. Don't buy new till you are confident what you like to do and how to do it.
Long past the time you posted this review, but if you happen to see this question, I hope you will respond. I am also 6'1" , or maybe a 1/2" more, and I wonder if you can lie against the backwall of the tent (as your cot seems to be placed) without either your head or feet touching the side walls of the tent. The space beside the cot looks like it would be adequate for a small chair/table. Is that right? Thanks for the detailed review. Two years later it's still getting views. --Michael
Hi Michael. Yes, you can lie against the back wall. Table and chair is a bit of a stretch as you need to get in and out. I do have a little folding table I place next to my cot at night sometimes. During the day, no problem at all. Keep it up and thanks for dropping by👍
Thank YOU for posting the info on the tent. Since I use an inflatable sleeping pad, I think I could just tip it and the bag up toward the back and create more space for possible long days in the tent. I've also considered the Redverz Altacama, but worry the additional ~4 ft, will create more problems in finding suitable pitching spots, as I'm in campgrounds much of the time. Keep up the good travels, and I'll be watching from across the pond ( USA-NC).

@@tiger6102 I got them as well. Going on this weekend for my trip to Scotland. Spoke the Lonetider last week and there may be a quick release option coming soon. I like to take my panniers off if I don't need them.
This years I had only 10 days in the tent. But I manage about 50 days a years pre Pandemic. Since I have the small adv tent, I carry this on every trip this year. So far I managed about 93 days on the road. Used the adv tent on 26 nights.
