In case I didn't say it enough, this was quite literally a pain to do. Noting wanted to cooperate, it seemed.

I like the fact that you showed the video with the problems….. nice job

So the fix is to jack your cab and front clip up 6 inches or so. Should be able to get that much room without disconnecting a bunch of stuff. Just remove the 6 or 8 bolts depending on what cab you got but that six inches above those pipes should give you the room to get your tools in to get the bolts out at the back of the turbo. I have been told not to use an air hammer as that tends to break the in-place nuts and the cab mount bolts will start spinning. That will cause a two-man approach and the removal of floor covering and the back seats but you will have better access to the upper end of those up and down pipes

So what your saying is if you have room like over head, to take the cab right off do it. I've seen them put like 2X4's across the box just to rest the cab on. Then those 2 to three days fighting to get those up pips off should be a breese. Well at least better maby cut it down to a couple of hrs. I have hurd some of these guys can get these cabs unhoocked and off in an hr. Same going on. So if it takes a novis twice that time your way ahead of the game. 👍

So what it looks like is you could have saws-alled or reciprocating sawed both those up pipes out of there. Instead of a day + dry grinding. Or carefully hot wrenched, with a fire watch and water hose, those up pipes right out of there. I'm assuming.

Yes, in hindsight we could have just cut both up-pipes out and saved a lot time and headache. It's a shame we didn't realize this until after grinding off most of the bolts. Thankfully the replacement pipes were not overly expensive, but that's still money we could've saved had things come apart normally.

Just a question why replace the down pipe to the deleted EGR cooler? Just relocate the back pressure sensor and put the exhaust cap on the bottom of the down pipe to the upper short pipe flange then that bracket isn't needed anymore. Just a thought.

We thought about doing something similar, but decided it wasn't worth the hassle. We couldn't delete the sensor because the truck needed it to operate properly, plus relocating the sensor would have been more trouble than it was worth. The tube the sensor screws into is designed specifically for that one spot, and the same goes for the wires that plug into the sensor. It would have been nice to eliminate all those extra components, but it just didn't work out that way.

All the afterthoughts abound. Great job loved all your explanations and finger-pointing. It was like I was right there with you. Haven't had any turbo trouble yet this was very informative. This might be an old video. For me, it's April 21, 2023, my 08/ 6.4 has 104K miles on her DPF, and EGR Delete is done. I don't tune it up to race. It's either set stock or tow haul. Of course, I played a little when I first put it in 😂❤ so far I'm still on the honeymoon 🎉

So mind you the video is informative so it would be nice if you showed the process of removing the turbos 😮

I started out trying to film the removal process, but I uttered more than a few colorful words and phases. By the time I would have edited that out, there wouldn't have been any video left, haha.

@Mighty-Quinn

Unfortunately, no.........I don't have any ideas. I didn't delete this pickup, and I haven't had occasion to delete anything else. All I do know, (more like what I've heard) is that any delete kits you can still buy (legally) are going to be from Canadian merchants. This subject is something you'll have to do your own homework on. Sorry I can't help you more.

Throw away engine not worth anyone's time and money from what I heard and seen .
@Mighty-Quinn
@Mighty-Quinn 11 месяцев назад
Well, your conclusion is certainly understandable. After doing a variety of repairs, and much research on this engine, I can say with confidence that emissions controls were at least 2/3 of the problems with this engine. However, I'm not excusing the other issues that were the result of poor design; such as the valvetrain not getting sufficient oil, causing the rocker arms to wear out prematurely. Engine issues aside, the rest of this truck is in outstanding shape. This engine will never be as robust as the 7.3 Powerstroke was, but anymore, it's cheaper to repair or rebuild these, rather than getting another truck and inheriting someone else's problems. I think these can be fairly reliable, so long as regular maintenance is performed, and it's not abused for long periods of time. We managed 100,000 miles out of this truck, and that's after an oilfield outfit put 170k on it. The power output and fuel economy are hard to overlook when considering how much money to dump into these.
