After 1year 9months use I lay out why I think they live up to the hype as the best wrist guard for EUC use. However they aren't suitable for everyone which I cover.

Crash update! 20/03/2024: Slipped mid corner on wet bitumin. I went down on the right elbow guard and slid for about 15m (50ft) - see pics: imgur.com/a/wwaynvg they held up well and don't need any repairs to keep using them. They highly protected my skin as the plastic slid nicely and the guards stayed in place. the bottom crook of my elbow was gauged by the plastic I presume. Zen Lee sustained similar injury from different elbow guards here: facebook.com/groups/ElectricUnicycle/permalink/7294703767294190/ They are Medium size! I'm between sizes but opted to go down. The idea was they'd fit under jackets or with elbow guards easier.

Great review JP, very valuable for people getting into the sport. I use these and really like them, we should all reach out to the manufacturer and ask for an EUC version that has better Velcro and stronger fabric to prevent damage when falling on gravel. They are virtually buggered after a couple of falls but only due to the fabric and stitching be to soft.

Thank you, JP. I've used both the Flexmeter and Hill Billy. I'm sure the Flexmeters offer better protection, but the Hill Billys are also OK. For the FM, I wore a pair of gloves under them for winter and summer. Yes, the gloves would need to be washed on occasion, but that's not a big deal. I wouldn't set foot on my EUC without hand and wrist protection.

Thanks mate, yeah for sure anything is far better than nothing. Same, every ride they go on. Oh the gloves under? that'd be a tight fit but good to know it works if sized right.

I used 187 for years. They worked well but tend to wear out after several falls and can bruise the palm on a very hard hit. The flexmeter double sided definitely give better protection and are more resilient but are more bulky. I wear my XXL gloves over the flexmeter in the winter and I need to put on the guards first before pulling on my jacket. Definitely sticking with the flexmeter.

The 187 were just a holdover until the flexmeters were delivered for me, no crashes in them. Great info cheers!

I like them. I bought 2 pair and only 1 pair of tue cover gloves. I live in central california. Reason is so while a pair is drying from washing, I have another pair to wear. I hand wash them in a bucket of warm water with baby shampoo and a little vinegar. Hang dry them in wash room until they stop dripping and then I hang them from ceiling fan to finish drying. I wear them under my motorcycle jacket in winter with glove over both, skid guard is removed when wear gloves.

awesome, thanks for the washing tips. great setup

They're the best wristguards IMHO, comfortable to wear and protect your wrist really well. Downsides are that they're a bit bulky, and a bit of a hassle to put on with the velcro straps. I use thin synthetic running gloves underneath, with flip-over mitt part in cold conditions. Works quite well even under 0C.

good idea with the flip-overs

Is there a wrist guard that you would recommend for mountain biking specifically for protection against injury? Will this guard impede comfort while holding the bar?
@jonoeuc
@jonoeuc 2 месяца назад
This one won't work with handlebars. It is possible to use them on the escooter but my grip is impeded and isn't as firm and escooters aren't as intense as MTB. It's my understanding that wrist guards aren't used with bikes. Best to practice and learn the tuck and roll!

Hillbilly skid plate broke , now I am trying the e rides gloves, also protects your finger ( very important) , thanks for the review

They look pretty good i'm guessing it's the "e-RIDES Max P1 Gloves with Wrist Protector - Full Finger - MK1" I'm guessing they'd offer a bit less wrist protection - less length - 1 strap vs 2 - not flex design. Integrated fingers is nice. Yeah i forego finger protection due to preference. The flexmeter are surprisingly good at keeping my fingers away from the road. here are the scrapes on my finger after a fairly fast crash @6:37 on this vid ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ldHKQxmCKAI.htmlsi=zGo5Wd8H1_SPPYbP&t=397

I wear a thin glove inside the guard. Though mine are super tight.

I like that setup, a thin thermal glove. Do you mean super touch as in slide resistant?

@@jonoeuc some cheaper motorcross gloves. Not very protective but with the wrist guard they are perfect. Just not with freezing weather maybe not rain either.

Hey Allemander, It's difficult or not great wearing wrist guards with anything that has handlebars. My grip and braking controls is reduced. I generally wear my ankle aJ6 alpinestars boots and armalith riding jeans. then usually a basic bicycle helmet since my escooter is a slower model. Plus i'm usually running short trips. If you're hitting high speeds then basically the same as an EUC setup I show it here at 53:04 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ldHKQxmCKAI.htmlsi=XHa5b3MCthEJx-kD&t=3184 swap out the elbow pads for a motorcycle jacket in the winter.

I understand people have the instinct to land palms down, but as noted that's very bad. Impact-wise I'd /prefer/ to land onto my forearms with wrists in a neutral to reverse position, where a slide plate would be more helpful on the side or back of the wrist guards. Oh well.

16 seconds just now. Longer and annoying If the velcro strap pulls through and I have to re-feed it.

Idk if it affects the ability of the wrist guard to protect your wrists as much, but I have been able to fit a tight motorcycle glove under the wrist guard, rather than over the top.

If you can still feel the dorsal resistance you should be good I reckon. Nice alternative setup
