Short term thinking: Not telling a girl you like her. It may be easier for you right now but 10-20 years from now you will look back and think "What if". Long term thinking: Man I really like her but I don't like telling her because it's scary and makes my stomach turn 20 times. Still did it, got rejected. But there will never be a "What if". That's what I did last month. It's just a small thing but long-term thinking is something I learned from Sam. Thanks man!

@remotegod255
@remotegod255 5 лет назад
This video is beast mode like so much of Sam's other stuff. Love the low-quality, high-content. I'm finally climbing the right hills in my physical health (pushing my daily workouts and meditation harder), my songwriting (studying and writing new material every day for hours), and my business-building (busting my ass daily to push forward on clear priorities for growth). There's a long way to go but I've felt the momentum shifting in the right direction and I feel better than ever before. Sam's message hits close to home because all my current challenges in life come because of all the times I took the wheelchair path (even when I thought I was being clever, I was just "deferring payment.") And you're right, the more you go up the big hills, the more you start to dominate in all areas - I'm not even talking competitive - just dominating yourSELF in the best way possible
@silvermushroom-gamifyevery6430
What do you think about the rather stoic, anti-pleasure implications in this video? Going by the logic in this video, being a songwriter, aren't you selling auditory donuts? I disagree with said stoic implications myself, but I was interested in how you square the circle here?
@phoenixplanner1786
@phoenixplanner1786 5 лет назад
@@silvermushroom-gamifyevery6430 I don't think there is an anti-pleasure or "stoic" implication within this video. It actually implies that you can get more pleasure out of life if you do practice delayed gratification (just think about the marshmallow test). So... no circle to square here I'd say.

@James Jones The funny thing is that the content he provides will get you all of those things if that's what you desire. Just from listening to him for a month my business literally went from £18-20K a month to £45K this month alone. His thinking, simplicity, long-term mindset and just the whole way he thinks when you apply it to your own life and business it makes everything much more simple. Entrepreneurs and business people are sold this idea that business must be a hassle and compact when the best of them take complex situations and break them down to make things simple. Sam has shown this, Elon does it, Jeff Bezos does it and this content is the best that I've come across thus far. They watch other content that will make their lives hell lol

This is the 4th time actively listening to this. While Sam is on a hiatus, I’d like to throw into the oblivion that his content (and this video in particular) immensely developed my framing of life and the view I have of the world - understanding that life is: A. a sum of all cumulative decisions B. A perpetually present game of opportunity cost and future value across every seemingly trivial decision. If you ever feel like the world of chaos has chocked you for ransom, please make a scheduled time annually to watch this video as an ever-present reminder on the tactile method on how to live.

This video reminds me of something: When I was a teenager I liked the Pink Floyd song "Time." I thought that the 'starting gun' for life would be when I graduated high school, and hence that it was alright to waste time as a kid by playing video games and binge watching cartoons, because I'd be ready to get serious when the time came. Of course, the 'starting gun' isn't when you're 18 or graduate high school. It was when I was about 12 years old, and began to be capable of making decisions for myself. So even though I thought I understood the song, it turns out I was a victim of shortsightedness just like most people are early in life. The regret I feel for these largely wasted years is immense, but I do my best to use it as emotional leverage to do better from now on. Great content! Appreciate that you offer this stuff for free. Cheers

Finally someone else on the planet understand why I hate TV 📺 for all the SAME reasons and I have never purchased a TV in my life. No TV or cable in my home my entire life ever and I am age 50. I have no clue about shows or celebrities. Always read books or listened to music. I would never lose time to TV. Last thing I watched was live coverage of September 11th tragedy at a friends house. TV is an income reducer.

To relax, doing nothing and meditating is the best thing. The learning dynamic of children is always something that fascinated me. You can give children so much on the way if you balance out the right things you teach them. I am glad I made so much mistakes in my life and my parents basically did what everybody else did. RU-vid videos are something I have recently realized have drastic 2nd order consequences that are very easy to miss. I don't think these videos have as much of that effect as I equate them to learning or reading, but I personally have had a habit of watching highlight videos of whatever I'm involved in. Whether it's chess, or a video game, or whatever someone might like doing, by watching those videos you're allowing yourself to get the joy of accomplishment while doing absolutely nothing to earn it. Even if it's something as unimportant as a game, it's still better to be the one improving on what you're doing than it is to just be another spectator accomplishing nothing.

I've recently been very much of a short-term thinker. My task was to make a presentation with poster and some other stuff for the research I've been doing. However, even though I had 3 months time, I pushed it till today, which is two days before my presentation. Short-term decisions bring comfort to the now and can bring the greatest pain to the future. It is like if you don't ask out your love and think that you can marry and get love at any time, but many who think so may end up never finding the right one again, causing them to feel regret and suffering for having wasted all their opportunities

Hello Sam, Got a great story about your content. From 2010 to 2014 I went to work for a small pharmaceutical company in the women’s health space. We were doing quite well and signed a contract with a company called Fleming Pharmaceuticals to have them manufacture a product for us of which we would have exclusive distribution rights. Six months after the contract was signed and after spending a lot of money (hundreds of thousands of dollars) getting everything ready to take this product to market nothing was happening and I asked the owner of the company what was going on (I was VP of Sales). He said he was getting the cold shoulder and nonsensical explanations for delays. To make a long story short, we finally found out that even though we had this product under contract for manufacturing, the pharmaceutical company that we had paid a lot of money to for the rights to this product had broken our contract and sold the product to Valient. We sued Fleming Pharmaceuticals and Valient for breach of contract. Now understand we were a company with around 5 million dollars a year in sales and Valient at the time was worth about 150 billion. Well, litigation went on for 2 years and Valient tried to crush us with their army of lawyers. Tried to put us out of business. They were ruthless and nasty. After 2 years of litigation we ended up getting the product back because the courts ruled that there was a contract breach. I was glad to see Valient go under and it just goes to show you that what goes around comes around. Love the content and keep up the good work.

What I liked most about this lesson was that you separated this concept into parts. Each part alone is fascinating while the sum of them together was more valuable than if you only explained the primary concept. You're right, I need to make decisions based on at least the 2nd order of consequences or 3rd order if I can recognize it. How far ahead have you been able to accurately project order of consequences? Was it 5? Or even 8?

I still think people can be driven by intense natural curiosity and enthusiasm so much to the point where they almost don't need discipline and they default to certain productive activities. But I think you're right that even for these people, not every day is a walk in the park through magical sunshine valley. Jeez, I'm spending a lot of time commenting on your channel Sam but there's just a lot of interesting discussion to be had here.

One thing comes to mind when watching your videos. Quality. Great job man. I like your way of analysing life and work. And I have fun when I can't understand that you find a lot things "bitter". New Zealand accent rocks!
