Inspired by the Ultra-Chron of 1968, this modern version is officially reborn over 50 years later. It is a true hi-beat movement created and modified by ETA. The 10 beat per second category is largely dominated by Grand Seiko and Zenith. I like that a new player has entered the segment, especially at a price significantly below its competitors.
My recommended Longines AD is Exquisite Timepieces in Naples FL. Good selection, and better customer service. Please reach out to Nick for pricing and availability on any model-

Longines is like Travolta in Pulp Fiction.... Complete A lister forever, disappeared for a long time, and is now making blockbusters again. What the Swatch Group has done with the heritage line the last few years is impressive. I really think Longines and Oris are in a great position to dominate the 3K and less (street prices) market.

I would have thought they already do in terms of sales. Longines really gets interesting for me around a little over 1K USD. Their Conquest line, the Flagship in particular is a beautiful dress watch. From around 2k-3K, they are tough to beat. Oris’ Big Crown Pointer Date is a classic, I don’t think it’s worth the MSRP,. Id much prefer a solid caseback than pay for a bland SW200 with a rotor covered in red lipstick, but so be it. It’s not difficult to do better than MSRP with that watch. Regardless, a great watch. They have great value, though in terms of aesthetics, Longines is on average more in my wavelength. It looks as if Oris is in a position to maybe target Tudor’s market position and give them a run for the money. The watches that have caught my eye as being the most interesting have been over 3K. That said, I prefer the Sellita driven Big Crown Pointer Date to the in-house developed small second version. I typically love a second sub dial…. I’m not ready to go there

Such cool, distinctive watch. In a market dominated by cookie-cutter product and Insta-conformist consumers, Longines hits a home run. Fantastic movement and finish quality for the price. Just got my Ultra-Chron today on the leather strap. Very handsome watch that wears perfectly on my 7 inch wrist. The wooden presentation box is also top notch. The cushion case has an excellent finish and the sapphire bezel gleams like a jewel. The signed crown is firm with no play and it winds up like butter. This is a beautiful dive watch that is worth every penny. Forget the lame Tudor BB...get this instead.

I bought my first Longines about 2 months ago (Ceramic 43mm Hydroconquest) and its just stunning and now im looking at the Ultrachron. Its absolutely beautiful and id love to own a true high beat. Watching that second hand glide is mesmerizing. Love the name and the logo too. The typical grey market sites i frequent never have them though. I don't know if I could just drop full price at an AD for a Longines to be honest but once/if they hit the grey market or used market i'll pick one up.

Great watch. Saw it in person. I think it is a bummer that the seconds hand has no lume pip. I am not a fan of the bracelet because it is too vintage inspired for me, but it is not a deal breaker. I really like the movement and the sweep of the second hand. I also like the dial texture. I wish longines applied all the indices. Bezel action is great. Overall a great watch. Would i buy it. Not sure, but I would choose it over the Longines spirit zulu time, because this watch felt more expensive/quality in the hand then the zulu time when I hold it in my hands. Longines is doing great recent years and I really want to add a Longines watch to my collection but it is not on pole position. ;-)

The lume is quite disappointing for a diver, especially in this price range. That's really my main issue. Even most of Tudor's divers (minus the Pelagos) at a slightly higher price do not have a quick adjust bracelet, but it would have been a great opportunity for Longines. Tudor is established in this price range for divers, and Longines has more to prove. They should have come to the table with just a bit more than the high beat movement, IMO. It's the details that matter when the price goes up. The lume would be easier to fix than engineering a clasp, but both should have been done. I do quite like the aesthetics of this model though. I would like to try one on in person. The AD I was at last week did not have one.

Appreciate the review, but it is incomplete. I'm considering an Ultra Chron purchase. While by no means a high-end timepiece, this mid-range U/C is certainly premium-priced, being in the $3K+ range. When in that price range, I expect this braceleted version to have a bracelet whose links are connected by screws, not by pins and collars. In fact, that is important enough that the absence of screws is pretty close to a deal-breaker, with other elements therefore having to make up for that omission -- a very tall order. Screws, in my view, reflect quality and attention to engineering detail, not to mention making adjustments quicker and less challenging. The video review unfortunately spends almost no time on the bracelet itself, with surprisingly no mention as to whether the links have screws or pins and collars. At one point in the review, a side view of the watch and bracelet allows one to glimpse what looks like small pins or bars inside the port holes on the flanks of the lower links; however, while they look like pins, they could be the tips of screw bottoms. There's no view of the conntralateral side to determine whether there are slotted screw heads in the port holes. I will therefore have to look at other reviews that hopefully fill this void. ADDENDUM: After looking at another video review by a popular reviewer, it appears the bracelet does have screw links. The bracelet draws considerable comment and praise in that review, in part for its screw links.

I wonder why talking of Longines you have to specify Swatch Group this this or that, something rarely heard of while speaking of Omega or others. To me it feels like a cheapening attempt of the brand, which is far more prestigious, has richer and longer history and more records, than many other overpriced brands from Richemont and LVMH. No one says the Richemont Group did this or that when talking of IWC or Cartier. It's only done when talking of Tudor as if those watches were made by Rolex, now that I think about it. And that's the opposit thing: a way to show Tudor as a better brand of what it actually is.

They could be loyal to the original in terms of size and create a great comfortable EVERYDAY WATCH, such a GO ANYWHERE, DO ANYTHING WATCH, BUT they create a 43mm and 186g charge on the wrist...🙆‍♂🤦‍♂🤦‍♂🤦‍♂🤦‍♂🤦‍♂🤦‍♂. Here we can see the example of what becomes chunky and oversized when it was supposed to look vintage inspired...and, however, the crown gets now unprotected 🤦‍♂ About the price, well, it's a relatively high price, given the fact that the caliber is basically a big and tunned ETA 2824-2, nothing developed from scratch. So they are pricing the watch basing on the Hi-BEAT speciffication more than in the watch complication itself, and we can see this point in the fact that Longine's colunm-wheel chronos are cheaper in many cases, having a more complicated caliber more expensive to be produced. So, yes, in one side, they have chosen a wrong size on my humble point of view and, also, they are pricing basing on the heigh of the watch frequency......., not in the watch production costs or quality, and this will be a handicap at the moment to face the competition. For that price, there are BETTER CALIBERS, better and more modern calibers out there in better finished watches, and now this is not just my humble opinion, this is just the raw objetctive reality.
