Guess what oil and gas tankers get even closer to shore than that! They actually go into some ports to tip or load! Shock gasp horror! Even closer to the population! But I bet you never gave them a second thought or all of the other ship carrying dangerous chemicals. This ship is no different! I don’t know what all the fuss is about. I bet you don’t know what dangerous explosive chemicals you have under your kitchen sink if they accidentally get mixed together? You don’t give them a second thought. The cargo ship, MV Ruby which is Maltese registered and carrying the ammonium nitrate cargo, previously reported a cracked hull and damage to its propeller and rudder following a grounding incident shortly after leaving Kandalaksha. Russia. The owners of the vessel are Cielo Shipping Pte. Ltd. and the management company Pacific Rim Shipping Management Pte. Ltd. The ship is operated by Serenity Ship Management, a Dubai-based company. (Not a Russian ship).

Many vessels under different flags anchor there,it’s deep water protected by the Margate sands at low water,called the quarantine berth,originally sailing ships anchored there for quarantine,customs, and pilotage,ais will give anybody information on vessels moving through the channel so no great mystery to unfold.

That is not IT. That is Margate Roads, about 2 miles off Margate. Ruby is 15 miles out into the Estuary with a tug standby. Bring some binos if you want to see it. The cargo is fertilizer. The ship is registered Maltese. ..

Bit suspect. Been there for about 2 weeks, None of the Baltic countries would let it dock, and Malta, it's supposed destination, will not let it dock unless the cargo is discharged. The explosive power in that ship is about 7 times greater than the explosion in Beirut. If the worst happened, and it affected the SS Richard Montgomery, could be a lot of carnage on that bit of the coast.

If you put the position of the ship into Google Earth and measure its distance from the coast it's 21.5km. Are you sure that's the right ship?

Personally, I wouldn’t be standing even THAT FAR AWAY FROM IT, Andy… It is reported to be carrying SEVEN TIMES the tonnage of Ammonium Nitrate that caused the MASSIVE explosion in Beirut Harbour a few years ago (a monumental disaster, causing untold death, injury & widespread destruction, from which the fragile Lebanese economy has never recovered…).

@@alangood8190 My dad was a pc in Ramsgate so I heard all sorts of stories, none I would want to share here though. I went to Upton CP and Charles Dickens in Broadstairs for two years and even at my young age then it was clear that the area has a really dark underbelly.

That combination, even in the *perfect* ratio and mixed completely evenly/uniformly, would still be *almost impossible to detonate...* There's a reason why it's the most common commercial explosive in the World, and the ridiculously high level of *safety* is that reason... The catastrophic situation in Lebanon a few years ago was because the thousands of tonnes of old and deteriorated fireworks which caught fire were stored right next door to the hundreds of thousands of tonnes of Ammonium Nitrate, so will everybody *please stop stressing about this non-situation...*

Thank you for highlighting this I’ve been ranting about it since day one. When it moves I bet it ends up sitting by British territory of Gibraltar where there is an international safe harbour between algiserus and Gib in the bay of Gibraltar. It should sail back to original port and deal with it there not put half of Kent in fear of of instant death and devastation. Hardly anyone realises what damage it can do. A fire in the warehouse in Beruit caused that to go off yet fire can’t ignite it they say. I’ve seen the fire test on it it’s true fire won’t ignite iron its own but I believe it’s what is burning not the flame itself that is the cause of ignition. Thanks again it is definitely not safe whatever they say and any expert with a mind of their own would probably agree given the Lebanon boom

I live in the South, not far from Portsmouth, a Naval Base, and in the early 1990s and right up to when the Iron Curtain fell we had an unflagged, very large, grey and white painted 'trawler' plying the shipping lanes in out of Portsmouth past the Isle of Wight at least twice a day. Guess who, comrade? When the Wall fell, and Russia became friendly towards the West, it was not seen again. However, since the beginning of the Russo-Ukraine Conflict, I noticed odd shipping again but, recently, that has stopped. How odd. Now this. How do we know its a Russian vessel? It looks like a survey boat to me. They tend to hang around doing tests for a few weeks. Used to see them in Cornwall every year, testing the south west coastal waters.

the mv ruby is anchored 10 miles NNE of Margate and has 4 huge unmistakeable dericks. distance is difficult to know with cameras especially when using zoom. if you look at marine traffic you would also see that there are typically 5 to 10 vessels anchored 1 or 2 miles off of margate that would be quite easy to see in the foreground, in between the coast and the ruby. Further to that, if you look at a picture of the ruby you will see it is "flush to the gunwale" - that is the deck extends smoothly without raised sections. the boat picture here does not match the outline.

I read about that boat a few days ago and believe that the cargo is very bad and the ship has got engine or other problems. Why on this earth was that allowed to sail close to our coast. I understand it was not allowed to dock at it's original destination. 😡🤬
