I take a look back at the magazine I made for school. Main Channel: @ScottTheWoz Twitter: / scottthewoz Facebook: / scottthewoz Instagram: / scottthewoz
all of this is beyond adorable Scott, and seeing how creative you were as a kid it's no surprise how you're so good at creating content today. thanks for sharing all of this with us, it's good to know you feel comfortable enough to give us insight into your past and it's cool to get to know you better too 💖
I love how Scott just proudly and lovingly hails back to the old personal projects he made as a kid. I'm absolutely embarrassed of all the shitty stuff I made as a kid
Dear Scott, I am currently [REDACTED] years old and these video are really inspiring to me! I love that you had a website, made your own DVDs and now magazines! I have to say thank you for this, I always wanted to do that type of stuff but seeing someone I admire a lot like YOU makes me want to even more! I love these types of videos and even if you run out of childhood things to share just know we still love to see you unscripted! thanks Scott!
I wish I had the drive to do this sort of thing at age 11. I'm 19 now going through college and I'm finally getting the motivation to work on creative projects. Chase your dreams kid
I turned 15 about a week ago and only now is my creative drive kicking in, I bid you good luck with whatever you wanna do, cause *I* don't even know what doing yet
I get the feeling that Scotf got a tub with all this old stuff frI m his mom or something and he was like, "might as well get a few videos outta this". Well it worked, I watched the whole thing.
I used to do these too. Mine was named "-myname-elodeon" and I would try selling them on the schoolyard for 10c each, but the teachers and my mom made me stop.
I used to sell my drawings at a private school as a kid in the same fashion until my principal gave me an ultimatum: either stop using the school printer to sell my art or cut her in on a percentage on each pic. I just quit instead.
Scott, I swear to god, these videos give me so much second hand nostalgia. I can remember making my own brand of sorts just like you did, "IdeasErik" then "ErikNation", etc., and making silly little Flash Games by repeatedly typing in Google "EASY HOW TO MAKE GAME NO CODE" on Google in 2007, making my own comics and printing them out or just drawing them on hand, eventually making a series of personal videos and sketches similar to Wozniak News. It's so weird seeing other people's """cringey""" middle school creative projects and remembering your own as well, it's honestly fascinating. Cheers to you, keep up the good work!
Hey Scott, I’m loving your content on both channels. Perhaps you could make a video /a series of videos on this channel looking through your game collection and your memories and thoughts on each game.
This brings me back to when I used to make my own comic book characters. I was really into Captain Underpants and related to George and Harold because they drew and I drew, so I started making my own heroes, like a super donkey and guy named “Ben”. And each hero I made was basically in their own universe, and I remember making a comic that was essentially a crossover. Cool to see a lot of people had this “creative itch” when they were little.
omg, i also loved captain underpants growing up. so much so that i made my own comic series [that is sadly to this day lost] about a toad and a tubba's heart lookin' shit goin' on misadventures and the first comic was a parody on the first ever book! and the second introduced what is essentially, my self-insert of which gone on to become the main character of a second comic series, Ryan's Life! altho i do still have a few, they're largely unfinished, as i just give up the moment they began. said character would become they're own character, named Foxan. and two years ago my self-insert was rebooted to become simply, ryan c., as i began to reboot ryan's life from a spinoff of the toad series [of which is named the amazing toad btw] into it's own, completely different beast, of which is where the character in my pfp originates from. i still have yet to start it, however, as im still in the process of making characters for it, but so far, i've gotten the main cast down. anyway, sorry for rambling, im just so passionate for this kinda stuff. it's cool that scott still has his old stuff tho, altho i've largely lost most of my childhood material, it'd be cool if i did find it, however.
Reminds me of when I used to do what was basically a weekly newsletter during my 5th grade year. It was basically centered around polls, what happened during kickball at recess during that week and anything random that came to mind for me that week. Tried to keep it going in 6th / Middle school but it never really stuck.
Man, I remember I used to do similar things growing up trying to make comic books and household news magazines. Super nostalgic! Thanks for sharing this, Scott!
Seeing these videos makes me wish I was Scott’s friend growing up, and it makes me happy to see that Scott’s passion to create was able to continue even through adulthood. Makes me wonder how WozniakNews Scott would react to ScottTheWoz Scott
I've noticed some of the best RU-vidrs are people who have been creating things nearly nonstop since childhood. I see these magazines and I'm immediately reminded of James Rolfe's hand-scrawled board games and home movies. Kinda makes me feel bad that I gave up on drawing and writing late in my childhood. I told myself I wasn't good enough and just stopped. :/
I'm happy someone is posting this kind of content. I used to make tons of magazines and DVDs and stuff as a kid and I loved it, but always got bullied for it :')
I had an old comic series that I'm trying to bring back from when I was in in 2nd to 4th grade that I want to get back into doing. I had other stuff I worked on but that was the main thing I did, and it was really fun.
Man I used to draw comics all the time back in 4th-8th grade or so. A lot of the early stuff just got lost between moves but I do remember straight up destroying some out of embarrassment and I really wish I didn't do that. Props to you for keeping all your old stuff after all these years.
I used to make one page comics in sixth grade. I called them "The Amazing Advertures Of Jimmy" I cant remember what they were like but I'm assuming they were bad, but I was proud of them damn it. Most of them were made on colored pieces of paper but I also made some of them on sticky notes and I would stick them to the wall next to the sink, so that whenever a classmate would walk over to use it, they could look to the left and read a few comics. My friend Charlie started to make little comics like I was and we had a blast...after sixth grade my parents threw out all my comics without even telling me...
Scott, I used to make magazines as well!! It was club penguin themed called Puffle News, we started making our own money too shit was so fun. It was also in 3rd grade as well!!
If you're drawing on an iPad, I highly recommend getting an artist glove. It reduces the friction caused by your hand and allows you to draw lines easier. Feels much more natural that way.
Omg these are amazing is sooo cool you kept this magazines! This reminds me when I used to watch Kids WB a lot and I wanted to create my own tv channel or a block for a channel and start drawing schedules and shows . Awesome stuff to see here!
4:12 So our class makes a lot of iMovies and it's SO OBVIOUS! Not knowing about kens burns and leaving it on every picture, using the generic transitions that both cut of important information and drone it out due to them KEEPING THE SOUND EFFECTS ON, and always having a blooper reel at the end that's at least 1/4 of the length. Oh, and they use the built in text options, (which you can't change the color of so it's always white) ON WHITE PICTURES. Luckily over time I learned what not to do as well as a few really dumb workarounds (like screen recording a picture in the camera so you can see the whole thing without stupid kens burns, which doesn't let you zoom out when you turn it off) and also learned about keynote, which I used to make a bear run over a friend for a vaccine commercial.
I did stuff like this all the time as a kid. I made a 10 minute long movie (keep in mind that 10 minutes of edited film takes awhile to make) I made a website to house all my art And my brother wrote a 60 page long book that he considered trying to actually print but it never happened. Kids that spend their time doing stuff like this are the ones that make it in the world. (I’m still in Highschool so we’ll see)
Almost done with the video and man I am enjoying it. Back in 5th I wanted to make comics because of my two friends who did it. I’ve stopped making comics after 5th but I kept up drawing because of it.
Wow being the same age as you, I see all of the similarities between you and I as we were growing up between the taste in humor/cartoons/books and hobbies. I was super into making this kind of stuff too and had dreams of making video games as well, and definitely would have been super inspired by your work. You are seriously one cool cat Scott. Thanks for the content man
