Autel reached out to me a while back and sent me out a scan tool to review.. Here it is! enjoy :) Business - savagegaragebusiness@gmail.com Autel Scan Tool Link - www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07TY3J711 Music - RU-vid audio library
Alternators are no longer dumb units, they sense how much power the car is using and vary the amount of charge they provide the BMS needs to be told when a new battery is installed otherwise it takes the previous battery as being its baseline. So if that old battery is only at 60% of original strength the alternator won't charge a new battery to its 100% strength but to what it did before. (At least that's how it was explained to me)
the system docent have sensors it uses the ABS system to monitor. you need to check the tyre pressures with a gauge then reset the light (calibrate) the system through the stalk menus. its easy as per handbook.
My BMW F30 definitely does have sensors. I had 4 new TPMS sensors fitted, one to each tyre as the TPMS light was showing, transpires the previous owner was a right cheapskate and had cheap new tyres fitted but WITHOUT TPMS sensors, literally just a rubber valve when TPMS sensors usually have metal ones which is what I had fitted. The TPMS light kept flashing and no amount of resetting the system via iDrive would fix it. Of course it made sense it wouldn't reset.... the system was trying to check tyre pressure by communicating with the sensors in each tyre - except none of the tyres had sensors in!
This video has only scratched the surface of what this tool is capable of. Outstanding value for money and a superb piece of quality equipment. Although this tool comes in a few different specs and the MP808 (with bi-directional control) is worth the extra. Look forward to more videos of you using this!
On those older BMW:s the TPMS system works with ABS sensors. So there isn't pressure sensors in tires, but the TPMS system checks for speed difference between every tire. If one wheel is spinning slower than others, that tire pressure light comes on to the dash.
For competent DIYers such as ourselves 😂 this does look like a really great scan tool. Very annoying on some modern cars that you cant just swap a battery but you need a scan tool to program the new one.....the beauty of older cars I guess. Handy for other stuff though like the brake bleed to activate the ABS module for complete bleeding. Live data looks very good too and the plain english diagnostic info. Nice video mate 👍
James, as Kyle has noted below, I don't think you have a fault with the TPMS, just that one of the tyres is probably under inflated or someone didn't reset the system after putting air in. You can reset the system by looking at the instructions in the manual, if you don't have a manual I can photocopy the page from mine and send it to you. Regarding, the battery its just because you have Efficient Dynamics and the car charges the battery via the braking system and when you are coasting etc.. To programme the battery to the car is just to let the system know what amperage etc., the battery is. If you replace the battery with one of the same amp rating you don't need to reprogramme it.
finally a british version!! very well explained and i really appreciate the time you've spent to go through it, i've been looking at these for a while as i have left the motor trade and cannot rely on my works scanner any more and youve sealed the deal for me. Thanks again, great video
It's been 12 years since I left the trade, in that time diagnostic equipment has got so much better and cheaper, certain tools seem to have got cheaper too 🤔
@truckatadders. Agree, and even more so, 3 years after your comment. Just got to be careful where you buy it !! Just spotted this.. Google > " Bavarian Dominator - Review Centre"
to reset you TPMS 1. Start engine. 2. Hold turn signal lever in the up or down position until TPMS telltale and RESET are displayed. 3. Press button at end of turn signal lever. 4. Press and hold button at end of turn signal lever until a check appears after RESET. 5. Vehicle must be driven to complete relearn.
TPMS just check your tyres pressure and that will fix that light and that is a great scanner for the price . I used a Foxwell NT650 with life time updates
If you are getting random error messages and suspect the battery may be on the way out, then changing the battery is job number 1. Voltage dips due to transient loads (headlamps, blower, screen heater etc) can generate spurious errors that aren't genuine faults. EGR is definitely worth a clean at least.
Zadster this happened on my 1 series, kept getting o2 sensor response slow, but I knew the battery was 12 years old, voltage read low so swapped it and no more warning lights!
You should be able to reset the TPMS via the cars own menu system on either the stalk or the steering wheel controls. Had the same problem with my R56 mini a couple of years ago
You can reset it but that doesn't tell you what the problem is. I had a flashing TPMS light on my dashboard when I bought my second hand BMW F30 335D X Drive (2017 reg). No matter how much I tried to reset it using iDrive it would never reset. It transpired the previous owner was a cheapskate and had fitted new budget tyres to the car and hadn't bothered to have sensors fitted - which has actually a legal requirement as the car used runflat tyres - so you'd have no way of knowing the car was losing tyre pressure since the tyres were runflat and there weren't any TPMS sensors fitted to the tyres. As soon as I had sensors fitted to each wheel, and programmed them myself using an Autel TPMS 508 tool, suddenly TPMS light stopped flashing and the system worked with tyre pressures showing on the iDrive.
James have a look at LM Auto repairs videos, he’s one of the best I’ve seen on RU-vid, he shows the whole process steps on tracing the issues with control modules and CAN fault finding sometimes right down to component level.
I just brought this tool as we have a few cars/vans in the household, it has already been used so much, as the misses Volvo C30 been playing up, one thing I’m not happy with is the fact that it has told me, the dpf additive tank is empty, you can clear the code but not reset the counter, so the code keeps coming back even after topping the tank up, this I feel is a major oversight, for this unit as it is part of the dpf service so should be included , I really don’t want to buy another unit just to reset the counter, I had hoped this would be my one stop fix, I would even be willing to pay for a software update to include this!!
Ca you gime us some more info do you use the same tool can it program key fobs on european cars, can it code a diesel injectornto the ecu for example if you are changing a injector ?
@@georgigeorgiev1300 yes iv used it on several different vehicles for coding injectors and worked great only certain key programming can be done with it as it is a lower spec tool in there range
The MaxiPro MP808 is the best version to get as it covers all those items you have on the screen that dont work! Great tool and a must for the Home mechanic. Get Autel to send you the pro version of this unit!
The coding for a new battery resets the charging profile for the particular battery fitted. If you don't reset it when a new battery is fitted you run the risk of overcharging the new battery (when my last battery died, the alternator was putting a phenomenal amount of current into it to try and maintain the charge). Oh, for the days when cars were simple!
I currently have a black 5 door 120d I’m stripping for parts for my other car , if you need anything for yours for price of postage just let me know 👍🏻 great videos
SC is sport coupe HC is hatch. Oh and by looking at the codes, if it’s present it’s a recent fault and if it says not present it will be an old code that may have been fixed
Great vid. did you have to do anything in particular to get access to the service manual option within the trouble codes ? - on mine this option is greyed out and is one of the reasons why i bought it :(
not sure if you've got the info of whether it was done or not, but my 1 series of the same model (and some 3 series) were recalled for battery terminal cables (or something similar) some time up to a year ago. you may have heard about it on the news. might be worth looking in to that as well if you're keeping the car for a bit. the tool does look good but very pricey for a driveway mechanic
James the more exspence ms908 pro comes with the actual box to program parameters ect ect such as injector replacement that need re coding for example and it also allows you to access more systems on a BMW for example also the hot keys function from what I understand you can use to keep certain options stored there like if you do alot immobiliser work that fuck would be stored there. Great video I've been itichin to see your review of this product ! Keep up the good work !
Is this still the "current" model? GF has a Toyota Prius-V with maintenance light on, TPMS needs new sensors in winter wheels, and traction control light is on. I hope it works with Toyota well!
I'm glad that you showed a view of a DTC/Fault codes and what information it will provide; possible problems and solutions! Thank you for your product review!
15:25 ahaha my first car memory! bmw e87 118d m47 90kw, bwm bwm hummm and compression that slightly moved the stick shift 😄 Ive thought its only my car making those sleepy noises until it wakes up 😅 17:18 😍
I don't like paying for updates do you have to update it will it stop working or will it lose features no longer work if you don't update it regularly. Do you have to pay more money to keep it working.
Basically having your car serviced every year. The dealer will remove mist off there codes.not hsvingbtge car serviced and the computer reservist stored up issues
It's the abs ring on the drive shafts rust underneath and they start touching the sensor and throws loads of lights on the dash, rings are £25ish on eBay
It's not hard but a long job to change the abs rings 😔 but worked sweet on mine and I had a friend with the same problems and I just stopped the sensor hitting the ring with a piece of cardboard and it's still sweet 10 months later
What a bummer not having able to check the TPMS codes. I was really looking forward to it. I wonder if that' s going to be the case with more of the options once you select them. I'd hate to spend the money on this model and not be able to diagnose common fault codes.
Hi first time seeing your channel how much is that in UK dollars in the US yeah if you take the battery out of your BMW you're gonna have to reprogram to put the code back in otherwise it won't start
Just one very important point everyone should be aware of, if you take the results of your scan to the garage they will most likely insist on doing their own diagnostic scan even though the odds are itwill show precisely the same results why? because it gives them at least £45 each time they plug in, money for old rope. We have a S class Mercedes and a local specialist wanted £75 and MB wanted £100. Be aware.
He looks like Joe Rogan, damn man haha! Thanks for the video, very informative, camera could be in a stable position though, I got dizzy watching this. I spoke to Autel customer service who confirmed that MK808 is not designed for EU, apparently for UK the equal to MK808 is DS808 and MX808, and Autel never sells MK808 to EU. Confusion is real...
13:22 1,035 BAR fuel rail pressure is over 15,000 PSI!!!!! OMG, I'm sticking with my 1995 W124 diesel with mechanical injection pump. 4BT Cummins as well!
Welcome to bmw ownership run flat light will come on all the time easy to reset without the tool, also all those dpf codes are cause your dpf is missing can hear it when starts, keep up the good work anyway
I used to love BMW's, had 8 in the past 14 years and the newer they are the more problems they've had, my current 535d has been a money pit and I'm sick of it now.
There are no physical sensors, it uses the abs sensors and the wheel speed for the tyre pressure. Just reset it as usual from the stalk and it should be good!
Would that system not be called DDS then ? Deflation Detection System. I know that it did on my previous car atleast. TPMS Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, monitors Tyre pressure. (And yes i know that the circumference of a tyre changes with pressure and the DDS system uses this to detect changes and thus air pressure in the tyre).
It says on the screen if codes are "present" or "not present" All of the "not present" codes are usually historical codes. Take a not of all of the codes and the erase them, and see what comes back. Also...Why blur the VIN in the beginning when it is clearly visible on screen multiple times, for example at 14:34
