Yup this is the one! Absolutely the best jig for my needs and so versatile, I was going to make the one with dovetail slots and Matchfit clamps etc but yours is so much better, thank you! Looking forward to building and using it 👍

I've researched a lot of jigs, even contemplated a Festool Domino. I like Woodgears mortise jig and attempted a copy of his beautiful machine. I may go with your design. Thanks

Interesting using plywood as a tenon. Never would have thought of that.

Very nice jig. What about routing into the face of a board, can it do that?

What I say is the bolts of jig would mark the side of the router.nice jig made.
@thewoodsmithstore
@thewoodsmithstore 2 года назад
Thanks! The bolts simply act as stops. You're not actually tightening them down against the router.

Thanks for posting this video. When it comes to making loose tenons is it necessary to round over the edges or can you leave them square? I've heard some people say that the strength comes from the face of the joint when it is glued up. Have you ever tested this and found this to be true? Thanks again! Excited to see more videos that you guys post.
@thewoodsmithstore
@thewoodsmithstore 3 года назад
Thanks for the question, its a good one. We feel you should round-over the tenons for full strength. The goal is to fill that void as if there's a real tenon sticking out. Now with that said, I am sure in most instances you may not have to since there is so much face surface. When compared to other joinery, like stub tenon, there is far more surface area that gets glued. Luckily, rounding the tenons is super easy with the right sized round-over bit. So, we would make the tenons fit snug if you can. Hope this helps!!

You can find the router here: thewoodsmithstore.com/product/bosch-2-1-4-hp-combination-plunge-and-fixed-base-router/ The spiral upcut bits are made by Amana: thewoodsmithstore.com/product/amana-spiral-plunge-up-cut-bit-1-4-dia-x-1-1-8-x-1-4-shank/

I would think it would be more accurate if you used a bushing to guide the router in the slot instead of the router base

that is great but routers only come with 1/4" of 1/2 " shanks, if your plunge router is only 1/4 your fucked

nice , , clean but useless , that kind of lose tenon must be at lease 3+3" , 6" long to be solid , and that is not possible with that set up, use mortiser and do solid job , Personally, if I put lose tenon at exterior door i will fire my self because that is just half arse design for door that are exposed to elements
