This is the oldest black community argument. Integration vs. Separation The Black Community has always been divided on this issue historically.

It's like nobody can change they mind from 30 years ago...man Shan chill. Dude stuck in the era...entertainers be on they hustle and get it where they can. Everyone gotta eat and feed they family. Rappers say contradictory stuff all the time especially when they were younger.

@@darklight7452 Prior to this era, music was primarily used to transfer knowledge from one generation to the next in every culture. Why do you think these people always control Black music? It's to control Black people. We have no standing army but the one thing they fear is the soul and the power in our music no matter where we are on the planet. Before music it was religion and all three major religions started in Africa and is being controlled by none Africans. This is bigger than music or entertainment.

@@KillahManjaro I overstand you on that. Once fastfoods started using em in jingles corporate America took over rap and now it's all messed up. Now they promote drugs guns and gangs and got a new pipeline to prison for youth. I get all that. I'm just saying lotta those artists needed that exposure on that stage to set them up going forward. Collectively we can't get together so individually people do what they do to get by so I can't knock nobody for going to the Grammys n performing. Shan is clearly not happy with life. If he were invited to the Grammys he'd be there with a red bow tie on. Chuck was just saying that he did not care about the Grammys. That it doesn't validate him. There's nothing wrong with him being there representing the culture. And of course I respect Lord Jamar, but I do believe that if they invited him to the Grammys he would be there as well. Ask Jamar in 1989 whether he would attend a gay wedding, or portray himself on television as a five percenter drug dealer/murderer in prison who would expose his naked body on camera. What do you think he'd say?🤷🏿‍♂️

Fast forward 30something years later, there has been progress and people get older and see the changes. All the legends who performed still has my respect and are not Hippocrates in my personal book. Hip hop a televised award now. I’m still with “eff a Grammy”. But, I also enjoyed the little ten min of shine for the 50th anniversary of hip hop.

In the 80's most did not buy Reeboks because of the apartheid but the S. Dots changed that, and nobody cared about the Grammys PE started that. Everything is changing. Like most genres Hip Hop (we used to do it out in the park) is evolving but the best thing about Hip Hop is that it's difficult to white-wash the foundation like they are doing with Rock. On CBS Scott Pelley called Chuck Berry the Godfather of Rock and Roll when he died. Picture that!

Terminator X... That line in that verse was strong! Still is! That line was said to let us know that they weren't doing this to win a Grammy or any award. It was from the heart and for the culture. It didn't mean they wouldn't show up to the Grammy's. They said they don't need the Grammy's validation (bc they don't), and I'm with that.

Hey Unc! I hope you're well. It's always good to see you. Anyway, that's right. You sure were the first brotha to call out "dresses in hip-hop." I believe that's around the time that we got reconnected. Always been family, but there was a period of disconnection. I found you on the other person's platform and the rest is history. I wasn't surprised when you started speaking out because I know that you're a man of principle and you're unimpressed by the glitz & glam of it all. Basically, the "fluff" is what I'm tryna say. Nah, to be fair, Unc, yes, there is an agenda, but in order for an agenda to pan out, there has to be willing participants. If brothas just stood they ground and went against the agenda, there wouldn't be an agenda. See, nah I done did a lil' bit of research and I checked on specific brothas - YOU being one of them, Unc. I Googled "Lord Jamar dress." I couldn't find you in a dress. I googled "Ice Cube dress." I couldn't find him in a dress. I Googled "Big Daddy Kane dress." I couldn't find him in a dress. I Googled "Chuck D dress." I couldn't find him in a dress. I'm sure there's a reason to that. Nah, when I flipped the keypad and Googled other brothas within y'all same age range, I curiously found them in dresses. I'm sure there's a reason to that as well. During that period, I couldn't imagine dresses in hip-hop. I've gone on record plenty of times stating that I knew something was coming when they phased out baggy/wide-legged jeans and replaced them w/ boot-cut jeans. I knew something wrong...well... I'll say "different." Why do they want men in them hip-huggin', ball-tuckin' ass jeans? They were similar to women's flared jeans. Few years later, they introduced skinny jeans and shortly after them tight & bright ass skinny jeans. Nah, it's back to straight/relaxed fit jeans. I always thought that was interesting. I'm a lil' disappointed that MC Shan went off on Chuck D. I understand where Shan was coming from though. Perhaps Chuck D just wanted the visibility. I'm sure he ain't mean no harm. Truth is, Unc, a lot of brothas done reneged on they stance over the years. I just don't want y'all to be at odds w/ each other. I love us 4real...

The protest of the Grammys was for lack of inclusion, so the entire framing of the of protest was begging to be included. I never felt the begging shit, but you can’t have it both ways. If Hip-Hop wanted to be mainstream, these are the things that come with that. Jamar wouldn’t have a podcast if Hip-Hop didn’t go mainstream. While I don’t agree with the commercialism of Hip-Hop, you can’t benefit from it, then shit on people who are trying to bring it to a wider audience.

I missed any points mentioning the origin of the Grammy issue; Once upon a time in 1989, the Grammys added a Rap music category. Many artists like Jeff & Fresh Prince, Salt-N-Pepa and Chuck felt slighted that the Grammys wouldn't televise the nominees and winner in its 1st year having an award. The rappers' point was a bit whiney for the time because Rap & Hip-Hop wasn't the strong global force that it is currently. The Grammys couldn't sell mainstream adspace with our culture in 1989. It's never been uncommon for Grammys to leave categories like Jazz, New Age and Polka untelevised. Obviously, the great Grammy-Rap war of '89 was won by Hip-Hop! It's over. Cats can stand down. The issue of whether the Grammys will televise Rap categories is long moot. Senior citizens have far more important things to focus on than fighting battles in a war that they won decades ago. I can honestly say that I love that I get to experience life at the same time as Jamar and Shan. On this subject, these brothers share an incorrect view. They are simply standing on the platform that one entity is expected to maintain objection to another entity forever simply because a problem once existed. Let's aim for a little light for a while, ya know?

We wanted very much to partake and be acknowledged, is why we boycotted. Tell history the way it was.

I seen so many of those artists have to stoop low and forsake their messages that they gave us early on. Now we’re just lost, now we’re the old heads and the people we looked up to are scraping for some airtime. It’s disheartening b they deserve so much more. You so deserve so much more.❤
