I'm just saying this for fun. Lorde, I love you. But the real story, as to why she sings this song is because. There was a Virgin, who Lorde ignored! Then one day, the poor guy got his wish. She said yes! He was very excited! He was waiting for that moment all of his life! Oh Lorde! I can feel it coming in the air tonigh!...Oh Lorde! He got excited lol. Lorde oh Lorde! XOXO:) Lorde rocked someone's world, Oh Lorde.
This is so magical. I love it when artists are brave enough to create their own interpretations of someone else's work. Lorde's interpretation here is stunning, haunting with a hint of euphoria at the end. Wow.
She just lacks the skill and vocal talent to carry the song. I mean, really, this is awful. The parts that are bearable are pretty much spoken instead of sung.
She betrays the song by not reamining true to the lyrics! then women complain men sterotype women of being too soft or love focused. When you cover a song you are supposd to go one step further not dial it back!
Covers can be tricky. You don't want to mimic something, but at the same time you still want to preserve the vibe of the original song. It's a tricky tightrope to balance. I think she did a good job with doing that.
@@tim84k10 google god is a woman by Grande, and google god is a woman cover by Aurora. They use different lyrics (change some of the words), different tone, different style of singing, still a cover, a wonderful cover nonetheless

One of the rawest talent this generation has produced. Have listened to this a thousand times. People hating on her have no idea, they'll be fans pretty soon don't worry. And also she's so beautiful 😍
Thing is, I like some of Lorde's own songs. She does a good job when she can write music that doesn't ask too much of her obviously limited abilities as a singer. But she just doesn't have what it takes to do this song. Listen to this vs. the original, compare the strength and range of the two voices.
That's exactly what I was thinking. She may come across as awkward at times but in reality she's in her element, one with music and not giving a shit what anyone has to say. Doing her thing and not giving a fck, love it.
Don't know why all the thumbs down for this cover. She did a fantastic job with her rendition of this classic. She put a turn on the songs meaning to make it her own. I could feel her emotion flowing through the lyrics. The rest of the musicians were spot on.
Reading the comments, some are talking about the fake drums, forgetting that most of the Phil Collins version original drum track is done on a Roland Drum Machine. For what it's worth, I love this version. I guess it's a good sign for Lorde that there's alot of strong opinions in the comments because Phil Collins himself attracts a lot of hate for his artistry as well. Lorde has said that she grew up listening to Collins and likes his music.
It requires you to set up a gated reverb to get the sound Phil Collins got (Collins is the person that basically invented the technique with drums on accident). Likely this drummer did not do the research thus the lack of snap, or perhaps a recording limitation. To my understanding the C-78 was used as background rhythm all the heaving drumming is Collins on drums but the drums mic-ed with a gated reverb, which is to say they are miced on a compressed mic going through a noise gate making them snap- buts still real drums.
Unique. Compelling. I agree with Bowie's love of this girl's style. Reminds me of the kind of surprise we got with Sinead O'Connor or Kim Carnes. For my taste, this was really exceptional.
Bowie was just being encouraging, you know how grandparents tell their grandchildren to ”go for it” because they want to leave the world on good terms?
@@chattingesque372 this take is nonsensical. They are not related and never met, Bowie owed lorde nothing, but took time to point to her as the future of music. Why not tell any other more famous musician of this generation “go for it”? He has plenty of famous fans who are much better known. You seem a bit stuck in the past, maybe a bit bitter. Who are you to speak for Bowie and interpret his meaning so off course? He said LORDE is the future of music, nobody else. Take him for his word.

this song bringing me memories, listening to phil collins with my father on the record player.. guess now I'll show him this version for old times' sake
@@sasazivanovic777 Yeah I just now realized how weird that comment sounded, my bad. I didn’t mean it in a weird way, I was just a huge fan of her music at the time. 😭😭😭
Bowie fucking loved this girl - called her the future of music, just like him she's quirky and unique. Some will hate it, some will see it for what it is - unique and beautiful.
Like Madonna, she is better in performing than in singing. I think it is easy to agree on. And this is not only the future but also the present and the past of pop music. And this is perfectly fine. Nevertheless, music is on the way to a brighter future.
I love the covers on the live lounge! It's so cool to see an artist totally transform a song to their style, like Kings of Leon doing Selena Gomez like where else does that shit happen????
Funny story... So I was just bumping in the Air tonight by Phil while driving, the store I stopped at was playing Royals by Lorde. I was like damn that was my song. So while looking for that song in car, this song popped up lol. Never knew she did an rendition of this song. She did good, but as we all know Phil's song is one of the BEST songs ever created.
Some lyrics are bitter, some so pure a story as this. Sorrow isn't the timing, it's the intent, paving other than hells of others, without roman recipe for roads, yet breathy reckoning of new road materials with recycle, and led lights built in. Oh breathy lorde, ah, whisper rarely, knew you knew too
Robbie Stout I cant believe I had to look this far down to find a randy comment .. smh .. people don’t get that South Park is the best and most honest place for real life events these days
The Live Lounge is not a replica of the song, it's that artists reimagining and this is done no better when the artist does something different. Whilst not mh favourite Live Lounge, Lorde did a fabulous job here.
I’ve not read all of the comments, but agree with those I have. She certainly owns it. That said, there will only ever be one “In the air tonight” for me.
What was that soothing voice? and why am I here 4 years late. I love the song, but I think I was too fixated on Phil Collins for me. this cover garnisch wargenomen have. better later than never! very calming and something appealing about her voice. Thanks for the harmony
*lyrics* I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lorde And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lorde Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lorde, oh Lorde Well if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand I've seen your face before my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am Well I was there and I saw what you did, I saw it with my own two eyes So you can wipe off that grin, I know where you've been It's all been a pack of lies And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lorde Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lorde I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lorde Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lorde, oh Lorde Well I remember, I remember, don't worry, how could I ever forget It's the first time, the last time we ever met But I know the reason why you keep your silence up, oh no you don't fool me Well the hurt doesn't show, but the pain still grows It's no stranger to you and me I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lorde Well been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lorde I can feel it in the air tonight, oh Lorde, oh Lorde Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lorde I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lorde And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lorde I can feel it in the air tonight, oh Lorde, oh Lord, oh Lorde Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lorde, oh Lorde I can feel it in the air tonight, oh Lorde, oh Lorde, oh Lorde, oh Lorde Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lorde, oh Lorde, oh Lorde
You know I read some of these comments and wonder if we're listening to the same music. This young lady is passionate, the music runs through her. She feels it, embraces it and owns it. If I ever get the chance I'm going to the concert.
All the passion in the world doesn't mean shit if you can't sing. She didn't really even "sing" the song. She cut short every single word and put her own little twist to it, which is what people do when they can't sing. She might do well with other songs but this one was a disaster and she deserves the criticism.
To all the people that said Lorde was mispronouncing things, have you listened to the original?? Or has it been that long for you? The pronunciation are exactly the same Loved this cover! Great energy, nice build
