Street homeless are fentanyl addicts, and street encampments are open air drugs markets brewing all sorts of crime. Fentanyl destroy humans mentally and physically beyond the point of repair very quickly. Fentanyl addicts gradually destroy everything around themselves. Where I live, they break into unoccupied houses and pull wall wires out just to sell for fentanyl pill. Many will die from overdose, or drugs related violence that's fueling our skyrocketing homicides rate.

My sister had her life threatened multiple times by one homeless man that lived near her apartment. She lived in a nice area but in the past couple of years, the homeless started moving into her neighborhood due to the pandemic. Affordable housing shortage and mental health are the two big factors when it comes to the homelessness problem. It’s only going to get worse. I pray all the homeless will find the help they need.

I remember visiting family every summer in Sherman Oaks back in the early to late '80s and it was heaven for a kid from the East coast. The Galleria was filled with young kids, all chilling out and there was very little violence from what I saw. The last time I was in for a visit was in 2010 and it was unrecognizable, same with the Bay area, it was so cool back in the day, now, I wouldn't live there if you paid me.

I've been homeless before (no not because I was a drug addict or jobless) have to say that because some people think the only way you can be homeless is if you're on drugs or won't work, which is completely false. But I'll tell you what man, being homeless takes away all of your dignity. But even despite the situation I was in, I would never shit on the middle of a sidewalk where everybody can see me and have to smell it and walk over it. I would still have some type of dignity left in me to not even dare do such a thing, for somebody to do something like that speaks volumes. They seriously need help and for the ones that refuse help, they are the ones who should be prosecuted.

Big part of the problem is also that courts will not allow the people with mental health or drug problems to be forced into treatment, or even housing for that matter. As a society we have to start changing the system back to allowing forced institutionalization. Even if institutionalization isn't perfect, it's better than letting them live like animals on the streets.

You are absolutely correct and we can put safe guards to stop false institutionalization. People have to know it is extremely dangerous for homeless people living on the street and for civilians; mentally ill and homeless can get robbed, raped, and attacked, and civilians are often the target of these people. And it is probably more expensive for us tax payers to let people live on the street if you add all the possible trip tp ER, police resources, destruction of properties and the hidden cost of people and businesses leaving and property values going down! So where are our leaders and politicians doing about this?

The mayor and the city council people of Los Angeles do not care about its citizens. I had 3 of my cars windows shot out by some homeless creep on a bike, the canyon behind my home has caught on fire multiple times by homeless living in there. If I see a homeless person near a ATM or a store I want to shop at, I keep on driving. Its at the point now where I want to move out of California because I have a 12 year old son that deserves to have a safe childhood.

You know LA isn’t the only place in CA to live… Irvine is 40 min away and was considered safest city in the country. I lived there for a few years and only seen 1 homeless person. I’m dead seriously And all he did was sit on a bench. Wasn’t menacing at all. There’s also corona, 1 hour from LA, with a similarly very low crime rate, albeit there’s less to do/more boring than Irvine. You just have to move to suburbia where the only noise you hear is lawn mowers in the morning, the occasional car driving by, and your annoying neighbors dog barking now and then. It’s so quiet and peaceful here! I don’t even lock my doors and I leave my windows wide open all night.

It's really gotten scary. Used to be you only saw the homeless in certain areas of town. But now they have moved into nicer areas where homeless used to never be. Homelessness is everywhere, and has gotten worse since the pandemic. Recently in Pensacola, Florida a store clerk was set on fire by a homeless person after being asked many times to stop panhandling near their store. This is sad.
