As the Los Angeles Police Department continues to crackdown on street takeovers, KTLA got a look inside a tow yard where some vehicles are being stored after a recent sweep. Kimberly Cheng reports.

As someone who loves modifying cars and car communities. Good! Takeovers have become one of the worst things to hit the car culture in a long time. An ruins it for EVERYONE. Now us responsible car guys get heckled for our legal exhausts because these tools are making the streets more dangerous than they already are. As for everyone saying they should crush the cars, nah, that's a waste. They should be auctioned off(the ones that aren't totaled jalopies) so at least some responsible people can get them. Though with yard storage fees and the other fines, most of these cars will be abandoned and auctioned off anyway.

Nice! Thank you Lapd. As a former import tuner I despise intersection take overs. Back in the day we still tuned up our cars and went off on a road trip 20 deep safely and after that we met up at a certain place to eat tacos. Impounding a car for 30 days doesn’t prevent them from street takeovers. In Canada, they confiscate your car and the police either destroy them or auction the car off.

As a car guy myself I'm glad they are takeing action. Street takeovers give us a bad wrap. We aren't all like those people who have a death wish. We have fun elsewhere when it's safe, but takeing over an intersection to do dumb stuff. It's just stupid why spend thousands on your car just to trash it. Its the definition of stupidity and I'm glad they are takeing aggressive action on thease people. I think if its a repeat offender they should have their cars confiscated and auctioned off. If the car is held together with duck tape and self tappers and the engine knocks then scrap it. But the good cars definitely deserve a better home away from foolish drivers.

The owner has to pay the impound fee to get the car back. You pay towing charges on top of that. A 30 day impound can cost many thousands of dollars to get the vehicle back. If not paid, the vehicle can be sold as a lien sale.

I remember in the early 2000's when street racers would have their cars impounded then subsequently the court judges would have the cars crushed. Although it hurt the owner's wallet, it never really deterred street racing. Now this street takeover participants will have their vehicles impounded for 30days, that's it? There should be more consequences, such as fines and jail time, not only for the participants, but also for the spectators. IMO, if the spectators start getting fines or other consequences, then it will possibly lower or even eliminate the frequency of these street takeovers.

Driving is a privilege, not a right. Those cars in the real world are not toys. 30 day impound is a huge fine, somewhere in the range of $200 to $300 a day is typical. Combine that with points on thier license and these crack downs will start to take thier toll on these idiots.

@@grillbaked It's not, but doing it on the highway or interstate when it's clear of traffic is. Lloyd and I69 in my area are my go to areas because the speed limit is 55+ on the Lloyd and 60+ on I69. I take these places because you just go in a straight line and traffic is never that busy after 10pm.

This is what civil asset forfeiture is meant to do. It's not meant to steal cash and property from law abiding citizens. 30 days is too short. Make the forfeiture 6 months with a hefty fine to get the car out or simply make the forfeiture permanent.

Instead of giving their car back after 30 days they should crush them and give them back their car in a cube. Also give them a ticket costing atleast 5k to 10k for damages to the city and it needs to come out of the pocket. When they can't pay for it take them to jail let them think about it
