Sorry I didn't respond sooner , but yes. It really depends on how large you go with the pinion. If you go over 18T it's going to get hot very fast. 18t does require some good motor fans for non stop full throttle running but I don't ever really get it about 150F . Anything under 200f is considered normal running temp for a castle motor.

Def go 18. This thing comes way under geared. It will need some motor fans but thqts an easy fix .

I could, center diff or the front and rear diffs? I'm working on an install video for the xlx2 right now I could take the center diff apart and put a new gear on it

Haha yea they lived in the city on a Court with cars everywhere. They just couldn't really drive it or enjoy it . Major come up for me tho. I ended up selling it for 1300 and funded a lehner 3080 motor with it .

Stock gearing also ? Safe run temperature is under 200 degrees so it will get hot. Most of us run fans on the motor to help with this

@@RCKYOTA Yes stock 13t pinion, the lvc at stock also (med setting, all settings at factory), it has puffed 4 batteries which also get very very hot, like I said the motor gets you can't touch it hot (haven't found a heatsink and fan yet because everyone is out of them). The esc only gets warm. I do drive it hard but not full throttle the entire time. Could it be a problem with the esc or you think my driving style? I have used powerhobby, smc and spektrum batteries and all get very hot. I contacted HH and they basically said it was my driving and that it's not an esc issue ( I don't think it's a motor issue). Now I did recently (about a week ago, been waiting on tires ever since) change the pinion to a 17t ( 1 10 min run) and ran it about 10 mins before blowing a tire that had a rip in it blew and everything was hot including the esc ( it was a hard 10 mins). I guess my question is, is it normal for things to get that hot and puff batteries when everything is stock ( I mean everything, settings, gears, tires esc and motor)? Not talking about the pinion change, I understand things will get hotter.

Still spins all tires

They are mad max giant grips . You can get them from ddm. I like the mx43 badlands alot more so I use those instead . The giant grips will bolt right up to the dbxl with no modification.

@@RCKYOTA Ic. I like the looks of the mad max's as i was always attracted to the way they looked and how mean and narrow they are. Im not a jumper, im more into ripping up grass and keeping all 4 tires on the ground and they look like they would do the job. Thanks. Debating if i should buy the DBXL-E with the mad max's or wait and see when they re release the 5ive-B kit and maybe with lots of luck they will do a 5ive-E version as im more into the looks of the 5ive-B than the DBXL-E. Or maybe a 1/5th typhon if Arrma does one sooner.

Dbxl is a great buggy . Easy to work on etc . I like both of them alot..for just driving around, grass, some bashing I'd say dbxl is the way to go. The 5ive is more for the race track and is alot more work. Comes in a million pieces but it is a bit tougher than the dbxl. Def a hard choice . How I ended up with both lol

Yes, exaclty the gear change is only for speed. It will add 10-15 mph top speed just by changing the gear. It might feel a little slow out of the box. Losi gears it very conservative to keep runtimes longer and heat down. The stock gearing is fine if your happy with the speed.

Also the speed bits are MIP brand

@@RCKYOTA Sorry, but one more question. I don't want to start out with 8S since I have not been running RC's in a while so would this battery a '3S 11.1V Lipo Battery 6500mAh 120C RC Lipo Hard Case' be alright or would you recommend a different mAh or C, thanks much.

@rodleonard1429 I would run 8s for this car . Most of us run 12s ar least. You will ge tuned to it quick. On 6s it's only going to go like 35 mph . Check out SMC 11300 4s packs . You need 2, or chnl 9500 4s. It's a big car so the larger the pack the longer your runtime. .

Most of us also run the vitavon aftermakret battery trays so you can fit large batteries ​@@rodleonard1429

I got mine at harbor freight for like 10 bucks. You have to buy the butane separate from home depot. Home depot sells both the torche and fuel tho. And no it runs fine with 18T. Motor fans recommended

18 is the max you can fit with the stock motor mount without drilling it out or putting a smaller spur gear on. 19 will be barely noticeably faster than 18T

It might work, give it a try. If not also a soldering iron works. Hold it on the screw for a minute or so.

Yes your missing something. There are 3 bolts holding the motor in place for the gear mesh. 2 on top one on bottom. You have to loosen all 3 to adjust the gear mesh, then tighten them down once you swap the gear out. With a larger pinion the motor has to slide outwards on the motor mount for it to fit.

Very rare third generation tacoma unbreakable body. Don't think they are made anymore . I've never seen another

@@isaackshirley4695 for the stock setup you gotta worry about heat in the esc. You could run 18T but it may run hot. Go for 17t for safety and a good amount of extra speed
