The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

It wasn't as easy to see if he might be a little difficult to get along with only because he was a perfectionist behind all of that swagger and humor, it's real obvious. He asked The pianist to modulate, where The pianist then merely just repeated what he had already done, and did not actually modulate. Was humor? Is it part of the piece is it part of the piece? You soon realize it indeed is part of the stick, as the drummer proves after the first line.

Well yes, Louis Armstrong was a perfectionist, but so were all the other musicians upon that stage. In fact most great artists are perfectionists, as are most of the top people in any other field, say like engineering or business. Final note, his band members loved him. Armstrong lead by encouragement. When a solo or a number was good, he would laugh or smile. So basically, he never told them that they did a bad job but when they did a good job would reward them. This is a great way to motivate dedicated people.

Satchmo....the popular name of the jazz musician Louis Armstrong. It was short for 'satchel mouth', because he had a very large mouth. A satchel is a type of large bag.
@waldolydecker8118
@waldolydecker8118 2 года назад
sure, that's the often repeated legend, but not so sure his mouth was particularly larger in size than most others....what was 'large' was the 'beaucoup' sounds that his mouth produced on his horn. Five will get you Ten there have been dozens of trumpet players with larger mouths than Armstrong, but none of them ever produced the satchel of sounds Louis produced. If Armstrong never picked up a trumpet, you wonder if his "mouth size" alone would have resulted in him being called "Satchelmouth"....the nickname seems inextricably tied to the music his mouth and trumpet together produced.

OMG...I just noticed that Satch sweated through his shirt during a 5 minute number>

He did sweat quite heavily, indeed. In this instance they had already performed four numbers before this one, "That's My Home", "Indiana", "Blueberry Hill" and "Tiger Rag".

In the Bing Crosby's recording of "Now You 'has' Jazz", in the final of the lyrics Mr. Bing Crosby says "...Rock Rock Rock Rock and Roll...". But in the Louis Armstrong's rendition, Mr. Louis Armstrong doesn't. Why?...

@waldolydecker8118

bull. its jazz before, during, and after Satch blows. No need to insult the other musicians...especially pianist Billy Kyle, trombonist Trummy Young, and clarinetist Barney Bigard, whose resumes long before this gig had already made them the equivalent of Hall of Fame caliber jazz musicians. You act like Pops is playing with some scrubs, lol. Those three guys played important roles in some of the greatest jazz groups the planet has known...your cluelessness notwithstanding.
