Brock Purdy has two elite skills, but they aren't easily noticed. He throws with élite level anticipation, and he reads the late shift of the safety better than anyone playing the game today. This are two skills Newton never mastered. The reason Purdy's skills didn't show up in college, is that in the college game the defenses don't disguise themselves as well, and late safety rotation is rare. In college QBs don't need to throw with as much anticipation because the schemes are simpler. Newton was a great college QB, and a very average NFL QB.

Facts! And I'm a Auburn fan. I went to Auburn and still I know that Cam may have been great in college, one of the greatest or arguably the greatest QB in college but never really materialized in the NFL after that Superbowl appearance. And to your point, he never reached that skill level that Purdy has. So like Riddick said, this comes off as bitterness and jealousy. I'm with Dan too. He can say this as an insult but you need game managers. The greatest game manager was Tom Brady and he's called the GOAT now.

@@maxjones8641 Purdys top 5 skill players have a total of 200 more yards of receiving than daks top 5, and the 49ers run game has only 200 yards more total rushing as well. Everyone’s got stud teams that wins anything. Ceedee lamb has 134 targets this year, aiyuk has 81. Cmc has 63 targets this year, pollard has 58. If you want to realize what he’s doing study epa. Purdy has the best epa a qb has had in 5+years, to put in perspective this year he’s at .38, second is dak at .26. The best year jimmy g ever had for a full season is .19 The general consensus is when you hit the .2 and up range you start getting mvp votes. As rodgers 2021, mahomes 2022 were both sitting at about .25-.28 range. Brock is almost double the range when you start getting mvp votes .

Purdy has elevated this already talented offense and made them a juggernaut. When healthy They’ve been blowing the doors off every team they’ve played and Purdy is marching them right down the field with extremely precise throws and accurate reads. I agree but i think Dak should also be getting more defended. Dak has lost everything you can think of and shined. So many injuries to the Cowboys over the years and shined. Dak could've ended his career after that gruesome injury yet when he came back he still took over and shined. Cowboys defense was bad before Dan Quinn and Al Harris came to coach. Dak still won games and took over. Romo was playing but Dak took his job from him bc he was changing the game to win. Shout out to Prudy but the Level of throws Dak has made throughout his Career while being on top with accuracy in a time where AR, Brady, Lamar, Mahomes, and many other QBs were balling out is crazy. Dak destoryed his thumb had surgery last year and came back immediately and while he did tie the league in picks he still carried his team to have the number 1 offense the whole year. And was still was a top QB in all of his stats. He still threw 40+ bombs amazingly. He still threw insanely accurate balls in tight windows. He still ran the ball eventho he had that gruesome foot injury. I love seeing someone like Purdy shine and get praise esp since he was the last pick... but seeing all these sport news defend Purdy more than Dak is very annoying and disrespectful imo.

@@tyreek.6815I will put your argument about Dak vs Brock to rest in a few simple statements. You talk about Dak’s injuries and his comeback. Well as you know Brock had a Gruesome injury to his throwing arm and has comeback even more deadlier than last year and he was having a great year last year as well. Brock’s surgery could have kept him out 6-10 months but he came back in what 5 months. Brock has only played 18 games compared to Dak’s 7 years in the league. And the most impressive facts is Brock has as many playoff wins as Dak which is two wins and two dominating wins against Dak and the cowboys in his very young career. MVP is not a body of work for your career it’s for the current season. Brock has more yards, a higher pass per yard, a higher completion percentage, 91 fewer pass attempts than Dak, more pass completions over 20,40 yards, a higher longest pass completion, a higher passer rating, a higher QBR, he’s been sacked less than Dak. Dak has a mere 3 more touchdowns, and only 1 less interception all stats to date, so again please tell me how Dak is better?

Newton is a poster child for grandiose narcissism, including the resentment for anyone who is better than he is. He had some success as a QB without ever being good at the actual QB stuff because he was a physical freak. (Dan characterizing him as a 'game mismanager' is a thing of beauty.) When he lost a step he was done, because he couldn't actually play the position. Purdy will play until he's 40, barring horrendous injury, while Newton can't get a look as a backup because of his personality disorder--which makes him a corrosive clown anywhere he isn't the sole object of adulation.

If you take away the talent around Brock Purdy he would be up below average quarterback if you put Dak Prescott on the Carolina Panthers they were still have a number one pick in the draft these are not guys of elite talent heck even the NFL scout thought that that’s why they were drafted in the middle to late rounds so Cam Newton‘s assessment is the exact same assessment that the NFL scouts had Brock Purdy based on what people said should’ve been a top 10 pack. The guy went in the last round. In fact, he was a last pic of the draft so if Cam Newton is wrong, he’s not the only one who’s wrong there are people make a millions of dollars to make these decisions who are wrong

Dan is just wrong about Cam not having periods of managing game, as he did show decision making and accuracy, with Mike Shula as his offensive play caller and Kelvin Benjamin as his best WR. Cam’s best WR in his career with old Steve Smith. These discussions suck because people aren’t honest about evaluating if a QB had the same type of play caller and talent around him as another.

The first opinion about Purdy that made sense. Mr Riddick you hit it right on the head of the nail when you adressed the fact that if he was a first rounder we would not have this conversation. I think unfortunately for him that he will have the same issue as Tom Brady that he will have to prove it year after year that he is not Mr Irrelevant. The same way Brady felt compelled to prove himself again and again. They overlooked Brady’s mind and fire to win at draft time pretty much the same way they missed out on Purdy. It took Brady SB 51 and Brady’s 5th Super Bowl win in a spectacular fashion to acknowledge Brady’s greatness. Will it take as much in Purdy’s case to say he is elite? Not sure just putting it out there for others to put in their 2 cents?

I think it may take even more for Purdy than Brady. Louis is right. All this goal post moving. Now the new criteria for MVP-level QB play are: 1. Cannot have a good coach 2. Cannot have more than 1 weapon 3. Every pass must be a tight window throw 4. WRs must fall down immediately after a catch

There's a reason so many players, even the best ever are not great talent evaluators, scouts, or coaches. If Cam could play the position half as well as Brock does, he would still be in the league. He would have SB wins. Cam had physical gifts. Once he lost a step, he was done. Cam was never a student of the game. Cam never put in the work and effort like Brock does. Brock maximizes everything he has. Cam never did. Cam coasted. Brock's work has given him elite qb decision making, something Cam never had, because that wasn't handed to Cam and Cam never worked for it. Cam is where he deserves to be, out of the game. Likewise, Brock is where he deserves to be too.

The reason why people called Troy Aikman a game manager was because of his 1994 Season: Aikman: 13 TDs 12 INTs 2676 YDs in 14 Games Young: 35 TDs 10 INTs 3969 YDs in 16 Games Favre: 33 TDs 14 INTs 3882 YDs in 16 Games San Fran sent 13 guys to the Pro Bowl as starters or alternates, when you are on a team loaded with talent you don't have to do as much, hence game manager. Just because you think Cam is bitter doesn't mean his criticism is invalid.

The same reasons Purdy wasn't drafted earlier on are part of the same reasons he's been helping win games, which is weird. He isn't the fastest, yet he's fast and can scramble. He doesn't have the strongest arm, but he's already thrown and completed as many long balls as Jimmy has, and they look smooth. He's also surprisingly strong and you wouldn't expect him to not go down easy but he doesn't, he can take hits and stay up, avoiding sacks, he's done it a few times this year like Prescott has. it's like having 85/100 on almost all stats, and a 97/100 on football IQ, decision making. Kids special, hope he continues doing well.

Joe Montana won two Super Bowls BEFORE all the stars showed up. He was surrounded by journeymen those two Super Bowls, especially the first one. All people talked about was Dan Marino this & Dan Marino that the 2 weeks before his second Super Bowl. Forget that Montana was already a Super Bowl MVP by then, he's just a system guy. Then he gave Marino & the East Coast Media a QB clinic throwing for 331 yards & 3 TDs and rushed for 59 yards and scored another TD versus the #1 Defense in the AFC. He was a difference maker BEFORE the Jerry Rices, John Taylors, Brent Jones, etc

@BangBang9rGang
@BangBang9rGang 6 месяцев назад
@@SouthSideBullyz I'm not trying to discredit what he did. Like he said, I'm just calling a spade a spade. Cam was a freak physical specimen at the QB position. The league had never seen anyone like Cam. So he took the league by storm when he got drafted. I agree he didn't have elite offensive guys around him. He did have an elite defense though. Which was a huge part of him winning games. How many of those TDs you speak of were with his legs? A lot of them. And once his body started to slow down a bit and the league found out he couldn't play from the pocket, his numbers TANKED. Why? Because he wasn't working on his craft. It's obvious. Dak Prescott will have a way longer career than Cam because he can actually play the position. So Cam is not in the league because he'd be a bigger star than the starter? That's my point. He's only 34, if he was really a good QB he'd be STARTING for a team. But he's not. You know why? Because he can't manage a game ironically. Cam got benched for Mac Jones. Nuff said.

I think we are seeing the “Mahomes Effect” in play…he came into the league, and blew our MINDS! But now you can’t be great without being a carbon copy of Mahomes. This is why I think Purdy may go down in history as one of the most important QBs of our era (not necessarily best) because he is FORCING us to grapple with this over-reaction to the definition of stardom in the NFL. In the 80s/90s, the TEAM was the important thing. If you drove the team down the field and won, you were a star. Now…you’ve got to be a living highlight tape to matter. Brock may bring us fans back to TEAM first mentality

Newton has no idea what it means to be a great QB. He was born a great athlete and never learned to prepare in the way the true greats did. Manning, Brady, Montana, Young, and some others were never done preparing. They did just come in at 9 a.m. and go home at 5 p.m. They studied film and studied some more. They grabbed receivers and ran extra routes until they felt perfect. They walked the field and visualized every play. They sat down with coaches and asked questions, explored each play, made adjustments, brainstormed improvements. And then they did some more. They were all superb game managers. Newton has no idea what that level of investment means. Brock Purdy seems to understand. In a decade or so, we will see how it turns out. We have seen Newton's decade of disappointment and underachievement. He remains incapable of even recognizing greatness that transcends physical talent. To him, Aikman won only because of Smith, Irvin, and a solid team. Montana won because of Craig, Rice, and a solid team. Manning won because of James, Harrison, and a solid team. He cannot see how an over-prepared QB performs perfectly and elevates everyone around him. Newton isn't smart enough to know what he doesn't know.
