Agree 100% and what made it even more special is the poise and that Louis replied. As Lousi resounds his last question was also well put together. I've watched quite a few Hot Ones just recently and nothing has quite exelplified how professional a communicator the host is.
Louis is the gold standard for documentary makers. He asks the hard questions, while in hostile settings, and never comes across like it's a "Gotcha" moment.
Louis' ending thoughts on empathy was beautiful. Made me emotional just how genuine and loving it is in a time where reaction is more valued than caring for one another good and bad. What a legend
Feels awful to judge who's been the best guest of the season, but for me it's Louis. He's such a down to earth, relatable and genuine guy and so humbly curious about this world and other people. Never judging, letting people be who they are and just asking genuine questions. Thank you for this interview. Makes me smile.
💯 % adore Louis documentaries. Loved his book. Louis is the best interviewer, so him complimenting your good self. Wow 👏 Oh my goodness, sigh, we are aging.. I love Mr. Theroux ❤
This was the best Hot Ones of all time. It's so much better to see someone who is an expert in journalism and interviewing respond to Sean's questions. He has such a better idea of how to answer the questions, as well as analyze how the show works ( like when Louis asked about how one of the hot sauce brands was owned by First We Feast). I appreciate the actor/musician celeb interviews because those are always fun but I want to see more interviews with people like Louis. Celebs are so self-promotional and usually anchored to some kind of movie, Louis just goes into it about the art of interviewing. He is A LEGEND!
wow, didn’t expect Louis to be on here. Have loved his work for many years, the absolute legend in the documentary game - hope people learn more about him through this.
I've been a fan of Louis all my life and seeing him so relaxed and being so hilarious too is just wonderful. Sean and this channel are an absolute gem.
I recommend checking out the episodes where he appears on Adam Buxton's podcast. His podcast is probably my favourite interview-format podcast, but he regularly has Louis Theroux (and Joe Cornish) on as they were all close friends in school, and the episodes always have a wonderful congenial, relaxed quality more so even than the normal episodes.
The crazy thing for me is, I used to be a documentary film reviewer and I almost got an interview with Louie many years ago. One of the things I was planning to mention, and aways imagined I would if I got the chance to meet him, was that I still remembered the words to his rap from Weird Weekends! Now everyone knows it!! 😒
This is my favourite one so far. Anything Louis touches is pure gold and you can tell he has an appreciation for Sean's complexed and intelligent questions. Well done.
I love when Sean interviews interviewers. It feels like the biggest compliment when they say, that's a really good question. I would love to see him continue the trend with mainstream media reporters...someone like Lester Holt who seems so together facing the wings of death would be fascinating.
I liked that when Louis said "that's a really good question" it was initially as a joke because that's what people like politicians tend to say when they need more time to contemplate how best to answer a difficult question. But in this case Louis was implying that he simply needed more time because his head was on fire! He then went back and said it actually was a good question and answered it. The guy is working on many levels at once!
Wow, I think I could listen to him talk about anything. He had the most thoughtful responses and was such a gentleman the entire interview. Definitely going to look up his work.
@@sh.4409 He did a documentary on savile trying to expose him because he clearly had suspicions of his own including the then-allegations, i think theroux trying to "befriend" savile was the way he interacts with any of the people he interviews - being in their world and making them feel comfortable so they'll open up for the documentary
@@sh.4409 He hardly got cosy, one of the main talking points of the documentary he made was bringing up the peado allegations. He has spoken out about how he felt when the news finally broke.
@@sh.4409don't mistake a level of passive observation for tacit endorsement, just because he's not railing against his subjects and jumping down their throats doesn't mean he agrees with or condones some or any of their actions
His top 4 documentary films: 20:09 1 Thin blue line - Errol Morris 2 Roger and me - Michael Moore 3 Exit through the gift shop - Banksy 4 The act of killing - Joshua Openheimer
He is absolutely right that Americans think of him as non-threatening and let their guard down around him, I've watched most of Louis work and it's like a super power. If you haven't seen his time with Joe Exotic, it's a master class in catching egomaniacs when they let their guard down.
Loved this! I would love to see more “experts” of things on the show. Entertainers are great but I also love hearing conversations about things less talked about.
The mutual admiration for each other is so apparent! And Sean impressing Louis with his questions (as he does with all guests) makes this just... *chefs kiss*
The frequency of guests saying 'That's a good/great question' or 'Wow you've done your homework', is a testament to what a great interviewer he is. That's why it all works. It's not just the heat gimmick, it's that plus the right guy in that seat. He's caused ppl great physical pain, & they & us alike still love Sean.
I love Louis Theroux, this was a great interview. It's amazing to see him from all the way back in his Weird Weekend days, a purposefully-awkward young man to where he is now, in his early 50s. A real national treasure.
Did not expect this but so happy it happened. I don't know how many had heard of Louis before this, but he is my favorite observer of the human condition working in documentaries today. His Weird Weekends is my favorite documentary series of all time.
his piece called "forbidden America" is pretty eye-opening and honestly a little maddening when it comes to the people he's interviewing, even funny at times @@laurag2325
Chicken shop date and Louis Theroux in the same series! Absolutely nailing the guests this series. All the time in the world for Louis Theroux and the way he’s dealing with alopecia so openly and honestly on his social media is incredibly brave and helpful to others who suffer from it. Another great episode thanks Sean and the behind the scenes staff
This is easily one of if not flat out my favorite episode. His work is great and his pov is appreciated and respected. He was a blast to watch and I think yall really pull the best out of each other.
What Louis described at the beginning- about getting his subjects in their raw form- it’s precisely how this show works and why we love it so much. The guests are stripped down and a lil vulnerable due to the scorching wings. It’s clear Louis is an inspo to Sean
some people won't even realise how big a compliment it is to be sat across from Louis and hearing him say I love that question, both Sean and Louis are beasts in the game.
Great episode! Sean's questions were like an introduction into the world of documentaries and their importance. And the answers were affirmation. Great, great interview!
What an articulate, intelligent and thoroughly likeable man Louis is. I've been watching his documentaries for years and they're all excellent. One of the best episodes ever. 👍
Sean is a master of his craft, however I think he managed to step it up even more with these wonderful questions he had for Louis. This was a fantastic interview, and the answers were equally as insightful. Louis' comparing hot sauce #7 to an instrumental in the middle of an album was brilliant.
You know, I’ve been watching Hot Ones for years, and I gotta say, everyone involved really do something special here. Consistently providing incredibly entertaining content, that, when you least expect it, touches at something deep in the human soul, and always in a way that is both novel and poignant. Case in point, that last question/answer is maybe the best one I’ve seen in any interview ever. Thanks for this!
originality is a very rare thing Louis has it in buckets,a very honest person always learning in a world where we all confess to knowing everything ,a blank canvas love the guy hes pure gold.
I admit, I didn’t know this guy when I clicked on the video, but now I love him! He gave every answer so expressively, and held it together the whole time! Bravo!
Great episode! Makes me wish it was an hours long podcast. I started watching this show for the hot sauce reactions but it's really the great interviews that got me hooked.
Louis Thereaux kinda took the journey my friends & I do when we've done the challenge in the past--kinda getting this surreal, euphoric level of elevated, internal/external thought process that dives into a deeper understanding of your passion and purpose on this earth.
Louis Theroux’s documentary recommendations Thin blue line - Errol morris Roger and me - Michael Moore Exit through the gift shop - banksy The act of killing - Joshua Oppenheimer
He is such a calming, kind presence. He is so insightful with a great sense of humour which makes him a pleasure to watch every. single. time. I am sure he was excited to speak to Sean with his excellent questions and it's clear Sean was excited to speak to Louis too
You can just see from the comments how respected and beloved Louis is. And like most guests, they seem to develop this bond with Sean, like soldiers that have been in the trenches together.
Very excited to hear Louis has new documentaries coming out, I've always found his past things to be a window into the human condition... and sometimes hilarious.
Louis is the actually funniest guest. He is understated and intelligent and unselfish conscious of his sweetness and qualities.. I really can’t put words on his quality, there is something different and wonderful about him…. Lovely interview and lovely last question 🌺🥰🌸
