Paula, there are birds and flowers that you can plant to attract birds, and also butterflies. For birds, sunflowers are on the top of the list.Just Google plants that attract birds and you will see the lists and suggestions.I think your home is lovely right on the water. When finished, your gardens will be lovely.Would be nice to see you do some filming like drinks/ salads, etc outside now that it's the 1st day of Spring! More seafood prep out by the dock too. That wld add another dimension.

Love the acknowledgement of the local trades! As for the birds, We tried several different seeds and seed blends, feeders and houses... Now I've got all kinds of birds showing up and saying "hi!" every morning! They feeders and houses are just all around the house itself, because I love to look at the birds while they're visitin'! What's going on here... we moved from KY to KS to be closer to our older grandchildren and daughter and we bought 5.5 acres in a little tiny town you gotta drive down a bunch of gravel roads to get to! We've got two chicken coops, a large barn and a carport/barn! This is a dream come true for us! We're so looking forward to coming out of winter, and really making the grounds and the house "ours", as we've not been able to do that since we closed in November due to the Holidays and some health issues, but we're ready now! I've got my seedlings started, some chicks in the brooder and some fruit bushes and trees on order! I'm so excited and greatly appreciate your tour, as it gave me some ideas for some more flowers to plant around my herb garden! I can't wait to re-do my kitchen so I can get all my blue decor purchased and brighten up this BLACK kitchen, that's for sure!

I was so excited to put up my bird feeder, which I put so I could see it from “my” chair in the living room! A lot of our neighbors already had well used bird feeders so I never anticipated any problems attracting birds to my feeder. I waited, & waited AND WAITED for the birds to come! Nothing happened until a neighbor jokingly wired some artificial birds to my feeder. Not long after, the REAL birds started coming & they haven’t stopped since!

I love birds, too. I’ve found that the birds love to be tucked in under a tree or near bushes where they can perch. Get a nice big bird bath for them near the feeder and they’ll drink and splash around a lot. It’s so sweet! Black oiled sunflower seeds are the best food for all birds. These attract beautiful birds. Happy, happy bird watching!🌻

I agree 100%, put feeders under trees or hang from branches. They like to feel they are safe from predators. Sunflower seeds are great, any small seed is good too. The big seed is more for ground birds. Love your home and the tour of your yard was fun.

Absolutely right ! Put in a small tree and bushes and put in the bird feeders . Check the type of seed for your area that they would like. Also Paula but out some of your biscuits they love them. I get many with just the biscuits and sunflower black seed.

Miss Paula, my mom’s homes have always had an abundance of birds. Several bird feeders, two bird baths surrounded by dogwoods, azaleas, oaks, and even a fence for them to perch on. At one home we had a small banana tree the birds used as a slide when the sprinkler was on and hitting the leaves. Several leaves overhung one of the baths. They would slide and land in the bath. Without realizing it she made them a water park with a few concession stands. 🌹

My grandmother lived with us when I was growing up and she had beautiful flowers planted everywhere. I still have alot of them today. Some she had come back from yr to yr. I have wild ferns that r just beautiful. I've shared those with other people. I'm an only child and my family r all passed now. I have only 5 cousins left. Sometimes it's very lonely. I'm trying to remodel my home place but it's so costly right now and where we live finding good help is very hard. I just think u have a very nice place!!! Hope I can get mine finished someday. It looks like your bird feeder is too exposed for birds to come to a new feeder. It could be a nice trap for predators. Hawks from above and cats from below. If you can see it well, so can predators. The squirrels will probably love it when they find it. Hard to tell, but it looks like the planters may be close enough for the squirrels or a cat to jump from. Maybe on the other side of the steps and where the bushes will become a refuge, if needed. Maybe start with one under the trees, so they are a little more sheltered. Also, might help if you had more than one kind. The cylinders that hang from tree branches let more than one feed at a time (if not too territorial) and they can angle to keep watch. You may not have had any passing through, yet, and the year-round ones just have not found it. They have favorite places, and yours may not have made the list, yet. Someone nearby may have a 5 star and yours is only about a 2 right now.

Paula, I love birds also and I can recommend buying TWO Brome Legacy feeders.....Hang them about 25ft. apart and fill with BLACK OIL sunflower seed...Squirrels hate them because they cannot defeat them, like they can ordinary feeders. This brand is the only one I have ever found that beats them.. And I would put two bird baths near the seed and keep them filled..If possible, make a "drip system" to keep them filled with fresh water..Birds love the sound of water dripping, and they are very attracted to it....Goldfinches are attracted to thistle seed...they love it and Brome makes a feeder for it...And of course, you don't want to forget the hummingbirds..Do these things and I guarantee the birds will love you back!!!!! Good Luck!!

Love this video. I have bird feeders out along with suet. It takes sometimes a couple weeks before the birds find this good source of food so be patient. Once they find the feeding center, they will be back and bring friends too. It is so fun to bird watch. My squirrels are my problem. I now don't mind if they eat off the ground but when they climb the poles to the feeders I put grease (even vaseline) on the poles so it doesn't hurt them they just slide back down. Enjoy

i had to move my bird feeders a little further away from the house, so i put it near the outdoor fire pit and Adirondack chairs. Then sprinkled food on the ground around the feeder, as well. Now I have a community of birds :). blue jays, mourning doves, mockingbirds, etc. of course across the street we have a huge flock of wild green parakeets and a family of bald eagles. not so bad for Florida

Paula, bird houses do best near a tree and not out in the open. At least that has been my case . The birds like to feel they are safe and in a natural environment near trees. Also, I have tried a new bird food that has peanut butter and they love it. I can’t think of the name but it’s a winter food. Also, hummingbird feeders should be placed in the same spot every year. Hope that helps attract your birdies!

I used to feed birds many years ago in Southern California and swore I must've been changing migratory patterns as I had so many! My feeders hung from the trees. I think they liked the shade from the heat. I don't keep them now as they attract wildlife I don't want, like huge black bears. I live in the woods in OR. We have cougars, bears, bob cats, foxes and coyotes. Bird feeders are the number one attractant for bringing dangerous predators into your yard. However, interestingly enough, more people are killed by deer. Yes, deer. We're talking actual attacks, not casualties of car accidents. Love your vids. Your landscaping looks like it will be extraordinary once it settles in and establishes itself. The contrast of the new wall and gate from antiquity is a beautiful melding of cultures and hemispheres.

My great Aunt Genie was a bird nut. Her gardens were filled with wild birds from crows to hummingbirds. She also had an aviary bigger than her house... Want to attract them? Food. Food. Food. Food. She refilled about two dozen hummingbird feeders every other day. It was mesmerizing to watch the males dance in arcs in the sky for girlfriends. She was a huge believer in the mantra, "...feed them so much they never fight..." This was outside of Bastrop, Texas. I miss that Lady every day. She was the bird lady. She had a hyacinth macaw which outlived her. He was 89 when she died at 87... He lived with her son another 15 years.

Paula, I think it is so wonderful you bought that lady's property and home, but left her a life tenancy. My fiance was a lawyer (he's retired now)...but he did this real estate closure where a son bought his mother's property AFTER she had divided her own property for him. She was in her 80's...and he turned around and threw her off the property. OMG people can be so rotten today. I was heart broken for the lady...but there really wasn't anything we could do legally. We tried to in-still a life tenancy clause...but he didn't want to hear it. Of course, legally it wasn't required...just a moral thing. We got her a new home. My fiance was involved in that part...frankly, I was too upset. There is also a B & B in Maine (Cheryl with BM (bowel movement), you know darn well I'm talking about you) where the B & B owners kept bugging this 90 some year old lady to leave so they could get the house for his mother. The lady died 😪there was so much drama and every time I see that house, I cry 😭. Paula, you are a wonderful person.

I Hi Paula! You looked so good in your black and white outfit, and I loved your bright earrings! When I first put a bird feeder up under our eaves, I couldn’t get any birds interested in it. I have a book about attracting birds to your home and it said to tie something red to the feeder. I tied a red bandanna on the hanger to my feeder; now my birds go through a 3 lb. bag of sunflower hearts every 3 days! After the birds found out where I lived and “the address” where free meals were being given, I removed the red bandanna, and also hung up a suet feeder that holds 3 cakes of suet. Now, I have birds all day long at my feeders. Hope this helps! 🐦❤️

Hi Paula! Different birds like different diets. Blue birds love meal worms, You can never go wrong with black sunflower seeds as the cardinals and many others enjoy them. The yellow finches prefer niger seeds in a hanging sock. Hummingbirds have their nectar made in the kitchen with 1/4 cup sugar melted into a cup of warm water, never add red food coloring. If you put out this variety of feeders you will attract many different birds. I know you are in Savannah and they will be arriving very soon from the southern climates. You probably have many sparrows and wrens already nesting nearby! Keep your feeders filled and clean and they will flock to your home. Fresh water in a bird bath would also be a plus! Sending warm hugs from Lancaster, SC

Luv the tour. I fed squirrels, foxes, deer, (even a bear stopped by), all kinds of birds when I lived in Vermont and what I found is they won't come around if there is a lot of outside human activity and of course the constant presence of dogs so setting the feeders where less activity occurs would help. Good luck in setting up ur Bird Diner!! 👍🌞😊

Thanks for sharing Paula. You have a beautiful yard. I have pool and my grandchildren just love to go swimming. If I lived there I would sit on the back porch all day just looking at the water. I love it. ❤

The best way I attracted birds, I made homemade bird feeders with my grandbabies and friends. Pine cones with peanut butter and the birdseed for your region, I used to have peacocks actually peck at my glass kitchen door. I noticed when my neighbors put up fences the flow of their natural way went away. Sadly We had 3 peacocks from the farm our development was created from. We heard after 3, 2, 1 & that last one was taken by an OWL, I feel blessed I got one of his beautiful feathers. My mom put out a bunch of hummingbird feeders in her garden. My grandfather was the rose grower at his home. I miss all the beautiful birds that used to hang around in our neighborhood. Watching the momma bird and Daddy bird teach their baby bird to fly and they are right near as they learn. My granddaughter and I used to really focus on the birds when she was little.

I found that if I whistle outside it attracts my birds. It’s so funny how they talk back with their whistle.Especially the cardinals. I was almost hand feeding them last summer and they still came all winter. I live in Ontario Canada.Love your videos . God bless.

I put up two different bird feeders. The feeders hang seperately under an arbor and near trees. They attract a lot of difference kinds of birds but was surprised how many eat what gets dropped on the ground. Apparently, they'd rather eat off the ground than the feeder. They are called ground feeders. Also, I hear most of the birds in the trees and just a few at a time come down to feed and fly away and then others come around after. So interesting, but my grandchildren really enjoy filling the feeders.

Be patient with your bird feeders. It usually takes some time for the birds to find them and feel safe with them. Your house and property are beautiful!

Paula, I'm so glad for these You Tube channels because you can be YOU. It's Food Network's loss you are no longer there. You wouldn't be doing this video if you were with them...they wouldn't benefit from it.

Miss Paula, I love watching your videos. You remind me so much of my mama. She watched you all the time, and you are both so much alike. She passed away some years ago. You’re like a nice bright spot in my heart each time I watch you. Much love to you and you’re beautiful family 💕

My suggestion is to make sure you have plenty of hummingbird feeders around and you can also add other bird feeders in your yard the more you have around the more bird you will attract make sure you have regular seed and some of them and Finch seed feeders hanging from other feeders cause some birds like the fench theaters and then some like the regular feed you can also attract some birds with meal worms like the bluebirds so you need several feeders that three different kinds of beautiful birds

Hi Paula, if you want birds to come to your feeders you have to have a bird bath near by the feeders and you’ll have birds in no time. Put a couple around your house tucked into your landscaping where the birds will feel safe. Trust me it works💕

You can crumble up white bread and scatter that around the feeder for a few days. That will get their attention.
