Yes our ancestors intercede on our behalf in the spiritual realm. In South Africa, we call out clan names when we're calling upon our ancestors. The goat is specifically used because when a goat is slaughtered, it cries out which sort of appeases the spirits. Some people use sheep but because sheep are quiet, they don't cry out to the spirits. We're all still connected throughout the diaspora - our bloodline is still within us. Regardless of how much Europeans have tried to sever that. Spirituality is real.

On the podcast, Misha Greene talks about Montrose killing Yahima to keep her from interpreting the book pages; but she regrets killing off the character Yahima because of the representation they gave on the show.

Coco wasn’t exactly about Santeria, Mexico has its own indigenous ancestral practices, same kind of concept. But Santeria specifically came from Cuba and is an offspring of the original Yoruba religion. But other than that correct 👌🏾✨ I also cried when Leti called on the ancestors! I loved it. This was one of my favorite episodes for sure

I always wonder that to. Is a burning cross suppose to be a insult to me or god? I never get the reasoning for that. The scene with letti and the spirts was so powerful and beautiful. She was the perfect person to play this role. This show is amazing. Love the review

I learned in my African American history class last semester that Martin and his father both changed their names to Martin (there’s a whole long story behind that). Martin did fall in love with a white woman but Martin’s father didn’t think she was good enough for him so he couldn’t marry her. I think she was into the arts and that wasn’t good enough. However, Martin’s father also didn’t agree with Martin marrying Coretta either but he relented but never thought she was good enough for his son. It’s said that Coretta was not Martin’s great love and that he went through life regretting not staying with the white woman, I think her name was Betty.

Wouldn't watch anyone else's reviews well after watching the show.. Watching your reviews because of the passing of Michael K. Williams. A little part you missed saying was with Diane and her mom and she told her how she discovered a star and the credit was given to a white girl. Just goes to show how you said everyone is so so smart!

I love your reviews and incite on shows such as this genre. Episode 3 was one of my favorites and the ending cause the older I become I feel our ancestors are always here with us. How much as a people we have been through but it is because of our lineage and ancestry.
