I remember in an interview Queen’s mother saying she didn’t like the Cleo role, particularly the scene with Ursula in the lingerie. I know she absolutely adored her mother but I always thought she was the reason Queen hasn’t come out publicly. Once she passed, that’s when we saw Ebony on the red carpets with her more.

ooo! fun fact: my mom was actually friends with the lady who inspired this story. They said it was based off several stories but it wasn't. My mom had a pastry business in L.A. and this lady was her only employee because it was a small business. The stories she would tell my mom, she considered my mom a friend because my mom never cast judgement on her and would let her vent. She was a sweet lady, with just a bad circumstance.

Happy Birthday Bondy Blue!!! My late brother’s birthday is May 26th as well. Rewatching Set It Off as an adult i’ve come to the realization that the crew did not make smart decisions. Stoney shouldn’t have torn the check up that she scarified her body for & she should have filed a lawsuit against LAPD for Stevie’s death, Lorenz lowkey set Stevie up by allowing his sister to give him that haircut, even though they got money & away clean after the first robbery they were getting prepared while inside the bank, they should have used different disguises, put the money into different accounts as if was their pay from work instead of hiding it at Luthers. Bondy! I was a junior in high school when the movie came out. When I tell you the CROCODILE BOO HOO tears I cried from when Tete got killed through the end of the movie! Mannn. I vowed never to watch that again because I was so emotional . Eventually, I got over it and have watched it again but the plot and acting paired with the music 😢😢😢😢

You’re so right about giving $20 to a crack head, in order to get them to reveal information to you. I swear, they know all the ins-and-outs, who is messin’ around with who, who did what, etc. People often treat crack heads as if they are invisible, so they often go unnoticed. But once you find a loyal one and become friends with one, they’ll never let harm come to you. (i.e. Bubbles from The Wire).

Now that I’m grown, I don’t understand why Stoney didn’t cash that check (or whatever form of payment it was)..Although the brother chose not to go to college, she could’ve still cashed it and paid her bills months in advance to help them out financially. i mean, she ‘worked’ for that money, why not still use it!?! Queen Latifah's girlfriend in this movie was absolutely gorgeous. She had flawless skin, beautiful, beautifully melanated, 🤎👑🤎 beautiful facial features, a nice body, she had sex appeal, she was feminine, I loved her hair cut, and her color. We got an early screening at my college. We packed that place out because it was free. I remember all of the guys screaming when Cleo upgraded her car and hooting during the sex scene with Blair Underwood. I was just happy to see the movie for free cause I was a broke college student.

That female detective had it out for Frankie the second she said she knew who robbed her bank. It felt like she thought she was better than Frankie, Bondy said Cleo was out on a suicide mission, but the longer time passed, the angrier Frankie got, and it gave her more ammunition to think she needed to be shot in the end.

19:43 I never even noticed that in the movie and until Bondy said something I realized that the neighborhood that my mother lived in is next to a bunch of power plants here in Charlotte near Johnson C Smith that HBCU there's a neighborhood called Smallwood and there's some electrical power lines right next to the neighborhood and a lot of people were speculating that whatever was coming off those power lines cause a lot of people who grew up in that neighborhood since the fifties to have cancer.

Hope you do a podcast on Dreamgirls and School daze. I would love to see that. Queen Latifah deserved her award for her performance in Set it off. She was amazing. It pissed me off in the beginning that white cop was being an asshole to Frankie after she almost could’ve gotten herself killed in the robbery and her boss is firing her. Luther was an idiot too. He didn’t respect these women at all. He was horrible. The two guys I loved was Keith played by Blair Underwood and Black Sam that Dr Dre played.

My thing is when I was little it never dawned on me that Natalie said he ain’t even from acorn and he was like o well hook him up I was like baby he clean set you up without a thought Then with Cleo I was like baby you just leaving finger prints on every cd you throwing out . ❤ Love this movie this is one of my classics. But I will say I agree with you Bondy a good majority of them were slow in this movie 🤦🏾. Now, the police with Frankie, I hate that she was traumatized, but they should have been sued. Same thing with Stony when her brother got killed the police department should have been sued for that too. Too much was happening that shouldn't have happened. Stony ripped up the check; Cleo stealing cars and leaving fingerprints; them bad disguise they had stealing from the bank; and definitely hiding their money at Luther's building. But I will say this with Stony being the only one that survived and going to Mexico I got to laugh because it's so funny that a year ago she was fighting demons in DEMON KNIGHT.
