My dad lost his leg at 19 in Vietnam.He came home meet my mom ,had three kids .He retired from being a correctional officer.He passed at 78 on Christmas Eve.He was still playing golf ,farmed,feed his cows and chickens.I talked to him the night before he passed in his sleep and we laughed together and ended with I love you.I will always fly a flag for him and all the others.🙏❤️

My Dad served 2 terms in Vietnam, retired and died slowly from exposure to Agent Orange, but not once had regrets because he loved America and his family...Dad, I salute you!!

As a Vet myself I do believe this should not be a sad day, it should be nothing but a day of honoring in a happy respectful way. I can also say from myself and also those that did give it all including family members, they believed in what they wore that uniform just to give and maintain our freedoms and liberties. They would say, don't feel sad or not be happy on this day, but celebrate and honor those that gave the ultimate sacrifice. They knew what may happen and did so for the greater good of everyone in this country.

Veteran's Day is for all who took the oath and put on the uniform of a US Armed Forces serviceman/woman, and Armed Forces Day is for all current members on active or reserve duty, but MEMORIAL DAY is the one day set aside for all those who have fallen in the line of duty. We (veterans) all wrote a blank check backed up with our life the day we took the oath and were inducted, but hats off to all who gave that Last Full Measure - R.I.P., and God Bless!

Billy Ray Cyrus was known for Achy Breaky Heart.Also Memorial day is not a Happy day it is a day to remember those that served us and sacrificed their lives for our freedom and way of life. It is a serious somber day it's not just another day off from work to party and have fun ,it's meant to be a day for remembrance and reflection and realize that you need to spend time with your family and friends because they could be gone tomorrow. 👩‍✈️👨‍✈️🇺🇸

Armed Forces Day is to celebrate those in uniform, Veteran's Day is for those who wore the uniform and came home, Memorial Day is for those who put on the uniform and didn't come home. Rest in Peace all my brothers and sisters who didn't come home.

Australians have ANZAC Day, Americans have Memorial Day. In Australia we talk about commemorating the day, not celebrating it. As you say, it is not a day for happy, but if you've had friends pass in war it can be a day for thinking happy memories with them

Thanks for doing a tribute to veterans on Memorial Day. We have a lot of veterans. My dad was wounded in Korea. He was sent off as a farm boy. He never talked about what happened in Korea. I think it was so horrible. He was such a tender hearted guy.

We had a Deputy Sheriff shot and killed in the line of duty in my County in 2018. Billy Ray Cyrus lived near the area where the Deputy was killed and offered to sing at his funeral. He sung this song by himself with just his acoustic guitar and it sounded beautiful. He's a truly talented and great Man!

My brother is the same. He just says, "you don't want to know." Hearing what little bit I have heard I think he's right I don't want to know but I hate that he has to keep that bottled up inside. Even those who come home are never the same.😢❤🇺🇸🙏🏼

Thank you for this; this is an anthem! Can’t hear it without tearing up! This came out in 1992, written by Billy Ray and his wife at the time. From the same album came forth “Achy, Breaky Heart”, which took the Country by storm; you should check that one out!👍

I remember you Danny Ray Roberts from Etowah, TN. RIP My high school best friend that was killed in the Vietnam war on 2/4/70. Keep the jokes going as I can't imagine a small thing like death stopping your natural sense of humor. We played high school football together and did other things we will not talk about. I will not talk about sneeking away from school together on a regular basis. Danny was a member of the Army when he died. He's buried at Shady Grove Cemetery, Tellico Plains, Monroe County, Tennessee. His marker at the cemetery has a letter that he wrote to his family and friends inscribed on the granite stone. Danny sent the following in a letter to his family after many in his unit had died. He mailed it to a friend to be shared after his death. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU AGREE WITH HIM OR NOT HE GAVE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO SAY IT. HE GAVE FAR MORE THAN US READING IT. HE SAID the following “I want this put on a largest stone at the head of my grave. To whom it may concern. I lived on this here climate 20 years. The first 19 were full of excitement and pleasure, then it happened, I got drafted into the Army and sent to Vietnam to fight a useless war. With God’s help I’ll make it to Heaven. I’ve done spent my time in Hell. Take heed, dear friends, I died needlessly, along with a lot of my comrades, but I did my best. This is a cruel world that we live in. Even though, I consider myself the luckiest guy that ever lived. Because of you, my many dear friends and relatives and because I had the greatest mom and dad in the world. Goodbye for now, we’ll meet again though on that great judgment morning. May God bless and keep all of us and bring everlasting peace.” Danny R. Roberts HIS MOTHER AND FATHER HONORED HIS WISES AND A TOMESTONE WAS EFFECTED BY THEM THAT DISPLAYED THE WORDS ABOVE. My old friend 'YO YO'' we still talk about you when the boys get back together or see each other even after over 50 years of time has passed..

I heard the album that this song came from decades ago, and with the exception of the afforementioned goofy-ass song, the rest of the album was actually not bad - this song definitely being the highlight. Many people under estimated Billy Ray because of Achey-Breaky Heart. He did a TV show Doc and was Romeo in the Dolly Parton video. He had several hood songs. Where Am I Gonna Live When I Get Home is quiet funny.

I remember I had this on a cassette tape. I think it was his first album and the final track on that album. It’s the same album with “Where’m I Gonna Live” and “Achy Breaky Heart.”

This is great. But the ultimate song when it comes to what War is like is "Goodnight Saigon" by Billy Joel. The song has the ability to make you feel like you were There. Billy Joel's absolute Masterpiece.

I Thank ALL the vets. But especially the ones in my family particularly my Younger Brother a United States Marine who was shipped over to Afghanistan 2 days after 911. The oldest vet in my family I got to know 7 years was my Grandpa who was a vet of War World 1.

I had 3 Uncles that fought in the war...1 came home with malaria after being bit by mosquitoes in the jungle then died of it....1 came home and alcoholic and had nervous break downs from the war...my 3rd uncle never came home, he was missing in action and never was found....R.I.P. to all 3 of them and thank you for giving your lives to protect us!

My Dad's a vet and he said nobody had to Shanghai him with a draft card he said as soon as he turned 18 and got the hell out of HS he said when uncle sam and the military said they need men he willing went and signed up 😊..my dads 75 and said he was happy to join up and help

Thank you for honoring our war dead with this beautiful song. I make it a point to listen to it every Memorial Day and to truly reflect on where we would be without their sacrifice. They truly gave all. On a lighter note, Billy Ray Cyrus is best known for Achy Breaky Heart which, although catchy, is an awful song. It's when you listen to his other songs that you really understand that that man has an amazing voice.

You should take time to visit the traveling walls and pay attention to the people searching for their loved ones name and the Vets that were over there! It's really hard to not shed some tears! As a kid I spent a lot of memorial days at a grave yard. My mother lost her older brother in world War 2. The VFW named there post after him Pf Donald F. Merrifield ! I watched many VFW services at my Uncle Grave.
