When I was 10 years old, me and my 8 year old sister would come home from school every day to an empty apartment, make sandwiches and soup if we were hungry, then go and play in the neighborhood for 4-6 hours till mom got home. Every day. Not a problem. Last time I remember having a babysitter was when I was 8. At 14 I would go camping, alone, in real woods, for days -- in the winter even. I had the largest paper route in our small town, getting myself up at 4:30 am every morning, even in sub-zero temps, earning $300 a week inflation adjusted. What kind of pantywaist kids are we raising these days? Can someone explain to me the magic that happens between when you are 14 and you cannot watch your two sisters for a few hours, and two years later when you are at the age of consent?? Seriously.
