LS SWAP | Suburban to 66 C10 | LS Vortec Service

Today on Classics Are Better, I am busy pulling the 5.3 LS Vortec motor and 4L60e transmission out of my donor 2003 Suburban and getting them into my '66 C10 "Bandit". If you missed parts 1 & 2, in a nutshell I pulled out the SBC that turned out to be a 305 with a t350 tranny that came with the truck (not original), and I have gone through and cleaned, painted, KBS coated, new motor mounts, and prepped my C10 for the new drive train.
Some of the jobs I knock out on this video are things like removing the front of the suburban, pulling the LS & 4L60e, removing the exhaust manifolds, pulling the spark plugs, deleting the A/C compressor and lines, replacing valve cover gaskets, painting valve covers, replacing valley cover gasket, replacing knock sensors, knock sensor harness & boots, replacing camshaft position sensor, oil pressure sensor, installing dirty dingo motor mounts and more!!

Looking good ! I am very impressed with your knowledge and skills . Very smart to be proactive to prevent issues later when it is in the 66. I have removed the front fenders on my 79 C30 . Painting the frame . Now I am replacing the rocker panels . Adding a vintage air later . Good work ..

What radiator did you used, and did you use a another differencial or did you keep the original from the 66

I used a Champions Radiator from Jegs. As I dug into it I found out my truck is a bit of a Frankenstein, my diff is from a 71 c10 w/ 3.73 gears. Thank you for watching!

Loved the video. I have a 2003 suburban aswell that I want to use as my donor for q 63. Im going to have to keep in touch with any questions. I would like my son start the build simce its going to be his truck.

Hi Edwin, I haven't worked on a '96 vortec myself, but a resource that I referred to a lot was www.lt1swap.com they have a quite a few diagrams etc. Also check out PSI's site, it has some great videos www.psiconversion.com/videos/ best of luck!

Yep, I used the PCM from the suburban, only thing I had to modify was having the key security turned off as I used the key from the C10 and it has no chip.

I used this harness from ebay, under a $100 and the guy's shop has like 14k reviews with a 98% rating (I have no relation to them). How does the oil pan clearance look? I’m wondering if I need a low profile pan or if the factory will be ok.

Just went a double checked it for you, the stock pan stick out almost an inch below my front cross member. Not really an issue for me in the C10, but if you were swapping into a car or a slammed truck then you'd want to get a low profile pan to tuck it up a bit. Good luck on your project!!

Yes sir, no problem. My motor mounts are sliding Dirty Dingo, but the frame mounts are Classic Performance 6372MP-SM mounts. Here is a link to where I got them on summit. Using the original PCM (blue/green) and I got an after market harness off ebay. I did have to order harness adapters for the fuel injectors though, turns out my motor is flexfuel, so I learned make sure to check which injector plug type your injectors take and order accordingly.

What kind of trans bar/mount did you use for the 4L60

I used the same one that the turbo350 was sitting on. I just drilled a new hole for the 4L60 mounting pad. Speedway Motors sells some good ones though if you need a new one.

@@CLASSICSAREBETTER thanks yea I have a turbo 400 I was going with but I had a 5.3 L with 4l60 dropped in my lap so I’m going a different direction. I already have the th400 mounting bar so I bet I can make it work. Also I seen the dirty dango mounts but where can you find just the perches if I buy those mounts? I tried cpp but they only sell as a kit. Speedway sells mounts and perches but they aren’t adjustable like the dango Thanks for the video you might become my best friend here in the near future lol
