This blows my mind. I love my 328i so much and I think this would be a great way to keep it fun and fresh! Ps I legitimately lost it when I saw that burnout. Holy crap.
With how quick and seemingly painless this swap was, definitely looking more into the Holley Terminator now instead of going absolute budget with a truck harness/ECM.
@@sheldonxwilliams only some cites in Texas do the emission testing, other counties just do safety inspection. Living in Austin sucks for doing major mods.
Good job working all this out guys. I would recommend some right stuff gasket maker for your shift boot if it comes loose. I recommend it for all gaskets over any other rtv. Pricey but its the truth. Makes me want to a bmw now, lol. I had a z3 I bought as a parts car l should of ls swapped for a little race car.
Hey quick question what do you do about the canbus system to get the ac working and cluster basically get everything to function like own. Is there a box for something or is just strictly wiring things up for the Holley. Thanktou
Side note if your donor car is running oem blue coolant you might want to flush the system. I've heard it likes to coagulate when mixed with some of the other style coolants and will block the heater core.
Absolutely it will. Just dealt with a shop putting in the wrong coolant and gelling up my cooling system. Ended up cooking my water pump and thermostat. With the mechanical water pump of the ls I’m not sure I’d create too many issues if it did but still a good idea to wash it out before use.
Wow! That's excellent! Frank's car looks to be squatting pretty low up front, does he have an iron block? Do you have any recommendations for springs to counteract the extra weight? Maybe X3 springs up front or something? Have ya'll done any AL block swaps? Do they squat like that? You guys are awesome, can't wait to give ya'll my money lol.
Best way to combat the extra weight of the swap is coilovers, however the cheapest option is a set of coil spring spacers for a temp fix. The iron blocks are 100lbs heavier(total) than an aluminum block. The wagon we swapped was an aluminum 6.2 and it had no issues.
How are you controlling the BMW fan? Is there command from the Holley ECM? and is a PWM command? (0-5V or 0-12V?) Also does the fan turn on with command from the AC system?
What did you use for the engine and tans management? Is it hard to program? I have an e82 and the manual in them are pretty tough. Might be cheaper to get a eng to trans adapter? I be temped to do this but the only thing holding me back it getting all the electronics to work correctly.
Would this application work with trying to do this for my 2008 BMW 535I? its not an X-Drive and i would like to take my N54 out, do a rebuild and put it inside something lighter. I feel putting the LS swap will make the car more reliable in just hooning around as well easier way to essentially full manual swap to the TR6060.
That hot, as an military retired soldier with the extra time now. Something I’m very interested in doing. I have an e46 325xi would love to have this LS swap done. That lady sound in a car I always like a lot how awesome..🙏🤔👍
Hey I have a question for you guys, I am preparing to buy your LS swap Kit and I was wondering how the mounts line up if I used my original bmw transmission from my 135i N54 6speed manual! Will the driveshaft, stock transmission with adapter plate to mount up to the LS line up correctly with the engine mounts that you provide
We’ll touch base with Mike and let you know, I believe he had someone who was doing the swap the way you want to and was waiting to hear back on trans mount fitment.
Not sure how we overlooked this comment, but basic labor costs for the entire swap starts at $5500, there’s tons of options and add ons however so it’s easiest to just email us or contact us via Facebook to nail down specific quotes for your build
@@lse90garage holy crap! Y’all are only an hour away from me and I was actually contemplating doing this early next year. I have a 328i (2011) and was looking into an LS swap.
I can find e92 335i for cheap but will the 328 rear end hold the v8 torque and power ?? Ideally I'm sure it would be better to start with the 335i as it probably has better EVERYTHING from the jump . Diff brakes , suspension seats etc
Please do not use rubber hose and a clamp on fuel injection, 5/16 - 6an hardline adapter goes on stock bmw feed in the engine bay, build a line up to the rail
We have not done one with the factory infotainment but based on everything else that still works we can't really see why it would alter that functionality.
you need to measure for your particular set up, there’s a lot of variables including where you set the engine mounts whether that is forward or backwards in the engine bay, and it can change the overall length of the driveshaft. So you need to measure each individual car to verify the correct length
This is amazing. I plan on doing this to my 335i once the turbos blow. How realistic would this swap be for a DIYer without a garage, lift, or prior engine swap experience? I have enough knowledge and skill to replace worn out parts (suspension, thermostat, water pump, pulleys, etc) but have never done anything as extensive as this. Looking forward to the next videos!
Sorry we missed this comment Daniel, realistically you only need an engine hoist from harbor freight to get the old setup out and the new one in, we're lucky to have the convenient lifts but at one time we did everything on the floor with jackstands ourselves as well. Its very doable to have the old out and new in within a weekend with help from friends.
With the factory PCM removed the OBD2 port becomes non functional so no it technically won’t pass a real inspection. You’d have to piggy back the stock pcm and retain a working port, but honesty in Houston, everyone knows somebody and if you’re building stuff like this you’re prob not THAT worried about emissions lol
I love this bro this is awesome. I have a 2006 328i manual 6 speed m sport package. I was wondering if you guys would do a poor man swap for me. I would won't a regular 5.3 ls with the ac and power steering. Would you guys do that if yes how much would you guys charge me for it.
You guys mentioned plugging the other hole at the bottom of the radiator.. so where is the hose from the bottom of the reservoir going? It looks yours is now going to the driver side
The Holley install will disable the OBD2 port on the the car, depending on your state laws the car will either have to meet factory smog levels or levels from the swapped engine vehicle, if it’s the later one you can piggy back a GM ECU in the car with the Holley, and in turn make the car pass inspection, if you don’t understand what I just explained I’d suggest you make friends with an inspector if you want to keep it on the road, otherwise we recommend these swaps for off road use only.
@@robertlorance648 doesn’t really change the shifter position, the different accessory drives just change how much clearance you have to the fan and radiator, the vette and FBody spacing give you the most room while the truck/5th gen camaro spacing gives you the least. If you run a vette spacing you have a lot of room to adjust the combo and really fine tune everything.
A/c does still work. You need Mikes CAN box that plugs into the Holley and communicates with the car, plumb the a/c and then everything still works off the factory controls.
Link to CAN bus? Awesome videos by the way. I was literally just thinking about LS swapping my 98 335i automatic and found you basically did all the leg work for us. Appreciate your videos 🙏
@@theslobra7955 once you have your engine locked down just slide your slip yoke into the trans and measure center of u joint to center of u joint and that’s the length you need. Don’t forget about the front slip yoke and the rear companion flange. They need to be there for proper measurement
