When your computer case fan is dirty, grimy (and perhaps noisy): It can perhaps be disassembled, cleaned, lubricated and then be reassembled into it's fan housing! Let's pick-up this little project right after the "fan blades" have been properly cleaned and see what's involved in getting this case fan lubricated / greased and functioning properly.
So this might be a solution for when your computer case or CPU cooling fan is relatively new (not worn out!); But is in a dusty (not a sandy!) & humid environment and still has a lot of life in it since it's just grimy. So have a look.

Excellent tip. I was only using light machine oil, but I think it makes a ton of sense to use a lithium grease and hopefully it also means it will last longer as well.

I lubed a Corsair HD rgb fan, at first i used machine oil because i thought that it would be the best because the fans is usually moving fast, but i still could hear noise friction noise, then i used grease, the fan now Is dead silent.

Yep, grease (quality grease) works great! Great to read you've got success with this as well :-)

I tried using grease on my fan once, but I was afraid I put in too much since it's a laptop fan it's smaller than that. I applied some grease and wipe it off with my finger leaving some smear of grease. Guess I have to put a little more. In any case, how do I know if the grease is a good quality grease? I happen to have some grease lying around and I don't know which one is the better quality.
@NekitaNet

I use high quality automotive grease. Hold on, let me check... It's... Valvoline Multi Purpose Grease NLGI-2.

@@NekitaNet that's the problem I don't have that in my country. I was wondering if there's a way to tell by touching it. I might not even have a high qualty one. I also use automorove grease, but it's a little thick ii guess it's beeb stting around too longn matbe that's the problem. I had another one that's softer almost like hair gel but couldn't find it yet
@NekitaNet

All I can do is give the "specs" of the stuff I'm using and that's "NLGI-2". Go to an automotive supplier and with that specification you'll likely find a brand that conforms to it. Can't do more than that for you. Hope it works out.

Thanks for the video. Maybe you should consider the title of your video. Maybe add "noisy fan fix" or something. There are people with similar fans looking for this video. Other videos have a fan where you can peel the sticker and lube from there instead of taking the fan out of its case like you did here.

Hi temp grease is the way to go. Light oil wont stay where it needs to.

Hey, nice thorough video. Would silicone grease suffice? It's rated for up to 180C and I used it previously on my mechanical keyboard switches.
@NekitaNet
@NekitaNet 4 года назад
Going by my own experience with silicone grease I'm suspecting it might get a little too runny with temperature; However: I could be wrong in that regard. Do note: Don't use too much since you don't want it anywhere else! And it dries over time quicker than a proper high temperature bearing grease. If you try it and are lucky with it; Then post a reply comment stating such.

To be clear, this is not a product recommendation! Mine is Multi Purpose Grease NLGI-2 in a 500 gram tub with EAN 8710941400266 Mine is packaged for the Dutch / EU market and these below are US / International packaging. The Crimson one from Valvoline on Amazon is: www.amazon.com/Valvoline-VV70124-Single-Crimson-Multi-Purpose/dp/B000CQ264A/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=valvoline%2Bcrimson%2Bgrease&qid=1615521818&sr=8-2&th=1 Otherwise from Valvoline on Amazon: www.amazon.com/Valvoline-VV70124-Single-Crimson-Multi-Purpose/dp/B000GAP43C/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=valvoline%2Bcrimson%2Bgrease&qid=1615521818&sr=8-2&th=1

Thank you first. Is it suitable for all fans and does not spoil it? I want to put it on the Playstation fan ❤❤❤
@NekitaNet
@NekitaNet 3 года назад
In general all oils eventually spoil, so use the best grade you've got available. I use the red Valvoline as shown and stated and am happy with the result. Don't use to much, don't use to little; And only use it on the spindle shaft / axle. By the way: If the fan is beyond repair (allot of mechanical play in the bearing surfaces) you'll have to replace the fan and greasing it won't help.

So this might be a dumb question. But do I place lubricant on the dark ring area? 5:34 🤔 I think it’s a magnet ?

Maybe this sounds stupid but, i only have WD40 or some weird thick oil like WD40. But can i use vaseline will it act like grease?
@NekitaNet
@NekitaNet 5 лет назад
Would only use high temperature grease for fans. Vaseline get's runny with heat and therefore shouldn't be used in this application.
