00:00 STORY & ART
Follow along as Giulia from Luca goes on a journey through Pixar's pipeline.
00:24 MODELING
This wireframe mesh shows the points that define Giulia’s shape. The mesh is most dense where Giulia’s features are complex, such as her nose and mouth.
01:08 RIGGING
This video shows a visualization of Giulia’s rig. A rig describes both how Giulia’s knee bends and how the skin around her knee stretches and folds.
01:32 SURFACE
Without the computer programs called surface shaders, Giulia appears a flat grey. The shaders create the colors, patterns, and textures of Giulia’s skin, hair, and clothing.
02:02 SETS & CAMERAS (LAYOUT)
In this stage of the pipeline, animators pose the characters to act out each scene. Giulia’s body language and expressions convey her personality and emotions.
02:26 ANIMATION
In this stage of the pipeline, animators pose the characters to act out each scene. Giulia’s body language and expressions convey her personality and emotions.
02:50 SIMULATION
Not all motion is added by the animators, some motion, including the fish in Giulia’s hand and water falling from the fountain are simulated effects.
03:14 LIGHTING
The final lighting changes the atmosphere of the entire scene. This work-in-progress render does not have the high image quality of the final movie.
03:38 RENDERING
This final rendered image brings together all the steps of the pipeline. Rendering calculated the color of every pixel. Each frame in this scene took about 50 hours to render.

Seriously? 50 hours for a single frame? As an animator I find that insane
@simonezampierivideography6808
For a single cpu, with thousand and thousand cpu is less
@Zeetrik
@Zeetrik Год назад
@@simonezampierivideography6808 its still a lot, im doing a 3d short project and if a frame costs more than 5 minutes its considered too much and we have to reduce the denoiser. (Obviously for a film it would be more, but not that much more) But I guess thats Disney for us, a lot of quality

In Frozen, Elsa's palace took about nine months to render..sounds strange but it's the fact.

I STILL do not understand when they say "a frame takes 50 hours to render" ...... There is no way, they must have hundreds of computers that allow for rendering multiple frames at a time, or else a movie would never get finished
@ngonjuan
@ngonjuan 2 года назад
It specifies for only this scene but still... if my maths are not wrong it took them 900 days to render it 🤔 like almost 3 years for an 18 second scene 🤔 maybe they meant every second 🤣 with is a little more realistic by only taking over a month 🤣
@tristangoupy9850
@tristangoupy9850 2 года назад
They have a render farm with thousands of CPU's. So they can afford 50h/f render time, and still render a 18s scene in less than two days. And they do not start rendering at the end of production, so they have time.
@ngonjuan
@ngonjuan 2 года назад
@@tristangoupy9850 yes, that makes sense as well 🤔 I did not take this into account when doing my maths 🤣
@Leukick
@Leukick 2 года назад
@@tristangoupy9850 Good for them, yeah I figured they HAVE to have thousands of computers. Thank you for the insight! I can't imagine how they would even set up thousands of CPUs to render different ets of frames
@Leukick

@@ngonjuan loll, they're lucky they have so many computers. The rest of us have to use lower samples and rely on great denoising tech to remove the noise from the low samples

The real question here is... how did they get the mouth to move that much?? I mean, it's able to switch from side to side kinda like adjusting to the curvature of the face. Rigging that must have been a pain
