People who can afford the Lucid really just need to sit in one and then they are sold. The interiors are such high quality and designed so smartly that you don't get the feeling that this company has has only made one (soon to be two) production vehicles so far. Props to Joann and her team!
I wish Tesla stepped up their interior. The model 3 highland is cool. But it’s nowhere near luxury feeling. I have a Tesla model y. And it’s great. But it’s absolutely not a luxury vehicle. It’s a pretty standard and minimalist interior. But to call it luxury is reaching
I’ve had a Lucid air for over a year now and can’t say enough loudly enough about how much I love this car. It’s a dream to take long trips with (I’ve got over 30,000 miles on it already) - and the Gravity is going to be even more comfortable and equipped for touring. This will definitely be our second car geared for our family trips and large loads! Lucid is an AMAZING company and the good word will eventually permeate the EV world - so their success will only increase as time goes on (and as the economy recovers)/
LCID stock is at about 4,30$, so it doesn’t look great for them. Anyone, with enough funds and time can make a great car, and lucid definitely make some great cars. Selling them at a profit is a different thing, and that’s where I see the problem for lucid. Still, I want them to succeed.
@@NYCybertruckWhich are extremely practical. Now let's get vehicles like this down to $40K with at least 300 miles of range. Still waiting for my affordable electric minivan or 3-row SUV. Don't care if it's Chinese.
@@thunderb00mBut this is a minivan, no doubt. That's not a bad thing. People are lining up to by the VW Buzz. We might be at the dawn of a new age, the resurgence of the cool van, like in the 60's and 70's.
Very excited to see these on the road. Just 2 corrections, Lucid did agree to switch to NACS and the Air has CarPlay so I would assume the Gravity would as well.
Teslas dont either. CarPlay is only a thing in shotty setups. Which is every backwards thinking car company….ie ill totally buy a Chevy with android built in. My Hyundai needs CarPlay.
@@CupidStunt-fs7ie Build quality, use of materials, etc. This is rivaling a traditional German automaker compared to Tesla S/X which feels cheaper and utilitarian for its price range
The Gravity is unreal! You literally get everything with this vehicle, no other vehicle at the moment comes close to the specs, performance and most importantly the storage! My God, to have that much storage in such a compact SUV is unreal!
@@dbrowdyPrecisely, and I’ve wanted an EV Honda Odyssey for years. That’s the point! So I’m definitely trading in my Model S Plaid for this when it comes 😂.
I’m so excited for the Gravity! Getting to experience the Lucid Sapphire was unreal. I’m truly rooting for Lucid to continue with the quality stuff they’re making
As a Minivan driver if I had 85k+ and was upgrading this would be something I would very much consider. Super cool looking plus lots of tech and not losing out on alot of my storage space. Plus the teenager in mean who used to put lights all in my car loves that you can change the theme.
Awesome EV for sure. I'd love to drive it. I'll just have to settle for my most recent purchase. A Chevy Bolt EV. Other than the charging speed it's really a fantastic car. I paid MSRP for it. $26,495. I couldn't be happier. Gr8 vid as usual. 🚙 🇺🇸 🔌
I got a used Bolt a couple years ago for $22,000. Been a pleasure to own, and extremely inexpensive to run! The 50KW charging is a little slow though, gotta admit
@@dawsongooch4194 Check out a new video from Battery Blade. He bought a 2019 Bolt EV with a little over 13 thousand miles on it and a brand new battery. It's virtually a new car.
WHY THE HELL DIDN'T THEY START WITH THIS?!?!?! Seriously, the Gravity is GORGEOUS!! Lucid should have started with this. I've got a Rivian R1T and I love it but I could see myself trading it in for this in a couple years.
Their original intentions were to 1up Tesla, and at the time, Tesla's flagship was the Model S and Roadster. But now they can venture off into other things.
Thanks for this rundown. If I had the funds to afford a $90k 3-row SUV, I'd wait to test-drive this before buying any other such vehicle in its class. I drove an R1S recently and liked it, but didn't love it. I drive a Palisade and it's hard to imagine driving any other vehicle with less space in 3rd row. I ready to move on from gasoline only vehicles, so I want to see what the Ioniq 7 looks like. The Gravity is incredibly compelling and I really like the range and seating space. Hopefully some of these features make it in to more affordable EV SUVs soon. I'm rooting for this vehicle and for Lucid to stay afloat.
Indeed@@alex21390, though I'm going to wait for the Ioniq 7 to be announced. I planned to buy the Telluride until I went and drove a Palisade and liked it better, so I want to see Hyundai's version of the 3-row EV before making a decision
I'm part of the 25 person team involved in hand building that actual Gravity -- during our initial "alpha" build phase. We are now in the "beta" build phase with improvements and we're currently trying to meet and exceed expectations. Feedback is welcome
Would lucid make it earler than late 24 ? why the sun-shade not lokated in different part ( which block the glass roof look if you understand what i mean , whould also that improve ?
What was the decision reasoning on the sun visors being suctioned the way they are for the front seats? The Model X has been compared to the Gravity a lot, but the visors for the X are mounted to the A-pillar along the headliner. Was there regulation or design philosophy reasons? Additionally, the 5/6-seat Gravity, 4-seat Air, and frunk without the seat cushion have all yet to be seen. Is the frunk incomplete on the model cars? Are the captains chair options going to come out at all, or just in China? I've also been wondering what will happen to the Air when it's time for a refresh, such as, will it get ClearView Cockpit? And what's the story for HighwayPilot? Will it be like AutoPilot FSD from Tesla? Or Highway only? Do the Air and gravity share the same sensor suite, or does the Gravity have more Ultrasonic sensors to compensate for the larger body? Sorry for asking so many questions, but I've never been able to ask things like this to an employee before. Thanks Mr. Rolando, hope you can shed some light.
@jacobfavreault4067 I doubt he will even answer one of your questions since employees are not allowed to be talking about these things in depth outside the company. The reason why they cannot copy Model X sun visors is simple, There is this thing called a PATENT that cannot be copied to the Gravity and laws require you have a sun visor no matter what in a car just like the headlights + taillights with a steering wheel.
@@fayewong21I doubt they can patent the method of delivering the visor, it's too broad. Throttle House speculated it might be regulations or law changes, but Tesla is still making them with the A-pillar-mounted visors
Lucid’s platform is very promising. I love the Sapphire because the electric motors stuck with ATF for lubrication and cooling and they avoided brake-by-wire for better pedal feel. Not to mention, their front multi-link double-wishbone architecture allows better articulation under cornering.
So, so refreshing to see useful features like the airplane like seat table and the seats that fold back into the sub-trunk, "chef's kiss." The tempered glass mid-console seems like a terrible idea though, I can see my yeti/thermal mug slipping and smashing the console. Well done Lucid.
As a car guy just finding this page, I think it’s dope that there’s someone who makes high quality videos that really go into the new high tech side of cars
They did a good job of masking the fact that it's basically a minivan, certain angles are very minivan-ish like the rear hatch open and full side profile.
I feel like a lot of people secretly want a minivan but will never admit it. Companies are just giving people what they want while being extra carful not to use the word "minivan".
Super excited about the Lucid Gravity! Can't deny the sporty and luxurious combo has piqued my interest. Plus, the storage space and features like LED ambient lighting and the tray table in the second row are quite impressive. Your review definitely has me intrigued. Looking forward to possibly seeing one on the roads soon. Peace!
Being a utility person, this is one SUV/EV I would buy. I live in Arizona (actually not far from the Lucid plant), and I would want a non-glass roof option. We have crazy sun 320 days per year, and it's great to be in the shade. It's way more comfortable not having the sun beaming down all the time. Pretty cool machine. Love the range. Out here in the west, we drive lots and lots of miles.
i'm sure there will be 3rd party or Lucid branded sunshade accessories available for it at a reasonable price, so that you can have the best of both worlds.
Tons of Tesla cars in Arizona with glass roof, you get zero heat and little light through there. Drove mine for past 3 years and zero issues. I forget that I have it most of the time.
Well, for those who might not be aware, Lucid Motors has had Apple CarPlay for a while now. Some folks really appreciate that kind of tech in their cars, you know, if you're into that sort of thing.
I have been a Volvo and a Nissan owner for decades, and I drive the Volvo C40 Twin motor ultimate EV for the past 2 years now. I am loving the absolute standout design, form meets function and the overall interior look and feel. All of a sudden my son shot up from the mid 5s to 6’3” and we find the C40 small for him now, though we can drive comfortably with him around town. Long distance is an issue and with the terrible charging infrastructure around fast chargers, this will become a compelling option for us to consider. I have deposits down for the Polestar 3, Volvo EX90 and VinFast VF9 SUVs. The Lucid Gravity, I will highly consider. The 440 Mile range is compelling and with NACS forthcoming, this is perfect. I’d love to test drive and see a gravity in person next year. Outstanding review! Thank you!!😊
Elegant, beautiful and sexy simplicity. Tempted to buy but I’m saving for my real dream car: Lucid Grand Touring. Thanks MKBHD team for reviewing this underrated gem!
Looks like Lucid just stepped up their game, from a world class sedan to a world class suv. Even better than I thought it was going to be. Feel like this will get even better when the full specs come out and with OTA updates.
Great review, Thanks. I currently drive and love a '22 Lexus RX450HL. The tech is old school in it, but I do like it. This Lucid Gravity is impressive. Love the 400+ mile range, screens, interior design, and huge 3rd row. Tucking the 3rd row seats under the floor is also killer. Seems like a good price point for Lucid. I'm sure I will be seeing a lot of these vehicles on the road.
As a Rivian employee, this thing starting at 85k has me worried 😂 the biggest and frankly only huge problem with the air is that is was too expensive… this car solves that problem…
Company will likely implode in a year. You probably have nothing to worry about. You also will have Tesla cybertruck sales to dilute Rivian as well. Id worry more about Tesla than Lucid as brandwise people know they are not stable as a company. Id never invest into that sort of situation.
It has a lot of features I like. The wide opening trunk lid is really nice. I have a wagon right now, and just like pretty much every hatchback, the trunk opening is much narrower than the actual interior of the vehicle. That annoys me so much! I use my hatchback/wagon like a covered pickup truck. Sometimes I need to put wider things in there...
Only issue with this for me would be the front windshield. Here in Arizona everything is prone to rock chips and cracks. I feel replacement would be a nightmare. Other than that it's pretty solid and would be a vehicle I would purchase for a new daily and the family.
Great job on the video Marques! Thanks for making it. That third row locking into the sub-trunk is the killer feature for me. I would prefer an all-metal roof, but otherwise, this thing looks pretty sick.
I can't even afford a bike 😂 but hey lucid has been my love for quite a while since i first laid my eyes on Air and Sapphire and their drive in the city by their CEO in LA pr some city and the looks it got from people! Its just majestic...idk its just high quality production and really distinguishable from the competitors.
looks very nice 👍 I wonder if the second row captain chairs will be an option. I see some inspiration from the Chrysler Pacifica for the third row in the trunk. The frunk remind me of the ford lightning. The center console seems very roomy as well. Depending on the price this could be an option to consider. I read it will start to be built late 2024. This would make it available by mid 2025 at best. The Kia EV9 should be a good contender price wise.
Nice review! The Frunk needs a net across the front. If you put anything in their and it moves around it could easily fall out when you open the lid. I believe that I saw that Lucid will be able to use the Tesla Supercharger network in the future.
@@WARnTEA If that section that folds out could be made to stand vertically, that would solve the issue as I see it. Since it folds flat, it really doesn't appear to be able to block anything, that moved to the front of the frunk, from falling out.
Honestly, didn’t expect this but they absolutely nailed all the things which people look for! A really good option as long as they don’t offer absolute barebones for like $79,990 or something where it wont qualify for rebates the moment you add some options! Kudos Lucid 👏🏽
It would be very interesting to see or learn how it works with a windscreen that goes so far up on northern latitudes. I do understand that when you live near the equator like in the US it's not a problem for an extended period, but when you live close to the polar circle the sun never reaches that high even in the summers and the morning and afternoons in summer with the sun low on the horizon goes from like 2-3 am in the morning until closer to 7 or maybe 8 am, the evening with the low sun is also crazy long, some days in the middle of the summer the sun sets past 10pm. And as the sun is not straight up it will be a long time when the sun is irritatingly low.
@@jamesengland7461 You have evidently not been driving in northern states/countries; that means the sun would be glaring in your eyes for many, many more hours. Once the sun gets up on the horizon and above the windscreen/windshield it's no problem. But as I tried to describe; as the windshield goes much further up, you would get the sun in your eyes almost all day and as we are talking maybe 18 hours of daylight but with the sun relatively low on the horizon, you would have to wear a baseball cap to not get annoyed. In the US in the southern states the sun is practically straight up, 90° up, but far north it would be just above the sun visor midday. It may be difficult to understand but here in the north we often experience "sun curves", the sun when you get around a bend is exactly where you need to look to see the road and the cars Infront of you, but you can't as the sun is shining straight in your eyes. Even express motorways where the speed is 55 mph or higher the traffic needs to slow down to a crawl as you're literally blind because of the sun. This is a dangerous situation when it happens. Now imagine what will happen if the sun visor is below to do any good, but the sun is too low on the horizon to be covered by the roof of the car, get it?
In my opinion, Lucid should've launched with the Gravity. Shortly after, a model 3 competitor should've trailed. I'm concerned about whether or not lucid will survive at their current status! I hope they do.
