This effect is an unpublished routine called Lucky. I came up with the handle in May 2021, and I am probably not yet at my final version. For contact information, check www.allanackerman.com. For email, use ackerman_allan@hotmail.com.
I always have enjoyed routines where it appears that the spectator does most of the magic. The m.o. for this effect comes from a trick I published in the M.U.M magic magazine called the Cipher in 2009. Over the last decade, I have developed four very different routines, but all use the same m.o. For contact information, check www.allanackerman.com. For email, use ackerman_allan@hotmail.com.
Really good premise and I think, for me, would go well paired with or as a variant of your quick coincidence trick (which is part of my regular routines). Also good to see you and the helper successfully performing it on a couple of the worst, yet often the norm, performing surfaces (smooth tabletop and sticky side of a mat).
Very nice! I like the handling. The handling reminds me of Gemini Mates meets Spectator Cuts Double/Triple. These days I have more time to think about magic than I do to practice. Darn kids....I may pick up a deck of cards once or twice a month. Your magic always has me thinking....I have an interesting idea. You can have a third revelation of the spectators originally cut to card and it's mates. Reveal the kings then the aces then in this case the eights. I would have the spectator use the Jay Ose cut to "force" the initial card. This may be overkill 😆
Going to give this a try -- I think it is a great idea. I did once try the effect and had the spectator find Queens, then Kings, and finally Aces. The method works perfect for a three reveal. But the extra reveal did did not seem to add -- but the idea of a selection and then they find all four on the third reveal may give the effect a better kicker ending. A few tries will tell.
I like the idea of having the spectator cut to a card then having them repeatedly cut the deck to try to find its mate. You essentially have a selected card without it actually being "selected." They forget about it. Just an idea. I love the effect as it is. Fun handling.
